It's because it has a learning curve that most gamers can't handle. It's a struggle. Why we love it is exactly why others hate it. There's nothing else like it. Everything else is the PC is OP and blowing away everything in front of them. Like Borderlands. And that's fine, play what you enjoy, I've digged Borderlands and other run n guns. DayZ is by far the most difficult and adrenaline dumping game I've ever played. The stat management combined with the random human element... It takes a while to get into the groove. It's not a game for casuals.

He got so mad. I was like its all good dude. That's the fun. Now we start a new one somewhere else. When you have a Chad base like that its eventually just a death match cause you have everything you could ever need

Both DayZ and FTL require extensive knowledge of the meta, since they both just throw you in there and there's no in-game explanations for, well, anything in DayZ. Is this gun any good? Who knows!? My hands are bloody now, should I be worried? Who knows!? Guess you better try some things and figure some things out! DayZ is incredibly not user-friendly, which is part of what I love about it. And even the players who are extremely masterful of it, well, they all die too. There is no winning in DayZ. Doesn't matter how geared you are, eventually something is going to kill you. Technically you could just go hang out in a low pop server and just hunt and cook, but that gets old pretty fast.
@n1uk I'm with you on the charisma thing. And random teamups are by far the most fun and drama in the game. I almost always try talking first, which leads to lots of deaths, but that's how it goes. It's worth it for the random teamups though. You'll have one guy with a blood infection and so you have to trek to a hospital, or you're all starving and sharing food, or you just need to wait out the night around a fire and talk. It's so much more than "run around and kill zombies and players" Lots of people play it that way, and they're seriously missing out. That or they just don't have any IRL charisma.
