To me, it sounds thoughtful, and a little bit mysterious, but not in a looming or threatening way. It’s definitely not sleepy but I do think it’s a tiny bit dreamlike. I feel like it gently hints at a vastness, too. It sounds decisive in a way, almost ancient, yet far from finished, far from over. More like... curious, and alive, and very, very old.
@@FirstNameLastName-oz5ij yeah, but all the light and even black holes will inevitably die out. Also, yeah, if all that remains at the end of the universe is some random islands with entrances to everywhere in time, I'm all in.
In a way, this song is kind of nihilistic---like, before this, nothing truly matters. To the infinite darkness, there is no meaning. Our suffering is but the wisp of the wind: unseen and unacknowledged.
this is less of an orchestral remix and more of just a much higher quality sound version of the original instruments and arrangement-- which is really all this song needed. thank you!
I always thought this area was weirdly peaceful and comforting. it's the END of time, so it takes place after your encounter with Lavos, meaning he's already dead. After Zeal, after everything, and everything had lead up to this. Just this one little island with the guru of time and all your friends waiting for you. It's really eerie but oddly comforting
It's really touching how every single remix of yours makes me start to sob. I guess that Chrono Trigger is some really special game for me, just like for all of us at the comment section. An amazing job with these, I say :) A very amazing job
Lucas Medina Chrono Trigger is special to me like no other game too. I love finding people on the internet that feel the same way, because I've never met one in person. lol
Something about this game.... It had more heart than the other snes Final Fantasy series I think.... The music is very much inspired by Uematsu, no doubt. But, more somber... I found myself holding back tears too playing through it again. Perhaps it’s just taking us back to the time when all emotions were more extreme than they are for us today? Hm... Thanks for sharing! 🤘
K. Callaghan Cylke Those are both on the list, with 600 A.D. (Wind Scene/Yearnings of the Wind) coming soon and Corridors of Time coming much later. I'm really pumped about doing Corridors of Time, but I'm still not sure exactly how I'll do it.
Richard Eckelberry Schala's Theme is on the second half of my list, so it'll come a little later. It's definitely coming though. I imagine I'll do it around the same time as Corridors of Time.
Colin Roan I spent a while tweaking the mic positions and reverb of the harp to get it to sound reminiscent of the original. It sounded a little dull at first, but eventually I got a sound that I was really satisfied with. I'm glad you liked it!
Your ability to bring out the best in the 'atmospheric' pieces are incredible! The pianos? starting from 0:29 don't sound identical to the original song, at least from my memory... but I actually think I prefer them that way, after having listened to your rendition. Thank you so much for this phenomenal work!
I love it! Just like your Undersea Palace piece, it beautifully captures the mood. It's like, the initial wonder, curiosity, and a little bit of fear of the unknown.
Jane Minersha I'm glad you liked this one too! It was significantly easier to make than Undersea Palace, but the goal of capturing the mood of the original was the same.
This piece is absolute pinnacle of this game. It represents all of the musical history within this music with its harmonics. It really suits the name, The End of Time.
It doesn't matter how long ago you put this particular piece here, what matters is that just like Chrono Trigger, this will age wonderfully-just like Wine. A Master-class performance that has trouble not catching the hearts of its listeners! I've listened to other remixes you've done-but this will forever hold a very special place in my heart. I deeply thank you for this incredible masterpiece of true art.
I don't think someone could make a better remake than this. Congratulations. You catch all the atmosphere. The harp is fabulous, and the strings made me vibrate when they started.
Alberto Sánchez Thanks so much! I really did my best on this one, so I'm glad it turned out okay. There are people out there who could make better versions, but they are professional composers/sound designers who would never be bothered to use their skills to remake a track from an old SNES game for free, but I'm really happy to get your comment anyway. :)
+Kilocron Thanks! While simpler pieces like this are easier and take less time to arrange/orchestrate than more complicated pieces like boss battle themes, it's true that they can be more difficult to get right. This is because in simpler music with fewer instruments, the quality and tone of every note can be heard clearly, so it's impossible to hide imperfections or lower quality samples behind a wall of noise. Also, because there's a lot of space between notes, the reverb settings have to be near perfect. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it!
+Malcolm Robinson Music Just like how it's easier to notice a mistake by a 4 person band while an orchestra it's harder because of the other instruments covering for each other.
This song is fitting of what a supposed 'end of time' is. It doesn't sound happy or sad. It borders being ominous and mysterious, without making it it's theme. It's almost 'comforting' in a way, to the point where I could be lulled to sleep by putting this on repeat, and be transported into a dream. Any dream almong the different streams. Similar to the End of Time being a gateway to different eras. The first time I heard it in Chrono Trigger, I put the controller down... and listened. Even the first initial sounds of the harp (or is it violin?) going back and forth, mimic a clocks pendulum. It's, in my opinion, perfect.
this is my favorite background concentration music, it is like a pendulum, predictable, conducting, and perfectly still on a grander scheme, it doesn't scream at you like rock, and always goes back to the start of the loop seamlessly, when i played the game many times i didn't like it much, now it is one of my favorites from chrono trigger...
Absolute perfection!! Just found your channel and you're doing an amazing job. Thank you for making my memories of playing this gem of a game more vivid!
Recuerdo con cariño estos temas, justo en este canal de youtube, pues formaron parte de mi infancia, ahora que las vuelvo a escuchar me llenan de nostalgia.
What minds they had pre-2000. I can picture the prancing feeling on the infinite darkness they wanted to catch, but why add that constant low beat. WHY. WHY. WHY. Maybe it just sounds good there. And it sort of adds a masculine feeling to it. Maybe even aged. Like stars slowly blitting out. Yeah. Yeah. That sounds about right. Yeah. I'm happy with that. This is really good, I love this. Thanks for this.
I think you got this right, for the most part, however the low-pitch strings that comes in @ 0.29 sounds off and slightly unpleasant to the ear and when everything runs togehter with the piano it gives of a more dramatic, dark and serious vibe compared to the original which in my opinion is more tranquil with just a pinch of uncertainty or mystery. All in all its a good rework, especially the more stripped part at the beginning.
This may be because I was relistening to the Minecraft soundtrack recently, but doesn’t this sound like it could be in Minecraft? It just fits C418’s style so well. It’s lighthearted at the surface, but serious and mysterious at its core, just like this old man. The old man is the only one in his world most of the time, just like your character in Minecraft. It’s a song of wonder, something I think both Yasunori Mitsuda and C418 were going for.
The end of all time... you know it doesn't sound haunting, evil, or empty. instead it sounds uncertain.
and yet
it sounds all of the above
@@themule137 not really

once the universe is finished expanding, stars stop being born, all the energy depleted- this is all that will remain
if a nice song is all that remains then I'm alright with the end of the universe.
According to scientific research, the universe in theory would expand forever at a faster and faster rate.

A lot of people always say how haunting this song sounds or emotional this song sounds, but I’ve always found it very calming.
For me it's very melancholic, specially because of the title and the in-game context.
I've played this game before, and it was also calming for me, as well.
Old Man: Hey.
Welcome. . . . this time. . . . well you are at the end of time
You’re finally awake. You were trying to cross the border...
Or you could just go touch that bucke. . .
Lavos:Touch that button and i will blast you from my firey future of DEATH
Me: Hey.
a hahahahaha nice reference

thank you!
All of these remixes are how the originals sounded to the people who played it.
I forgot just how haunting this melody sounds. This remix just upped that feeling to me.
moogle847 My goal is always to capture the original feeling of the track, but boosting that feeling is even better! :)
I could listen to this piece til the end of time. It's so relaxing.
