  • Putting mirrors, like the kind you see Young using in this footage, are a popular choice among tour players because they help them check to see where their eyes are in relation to the golf ball.
-The conventional wisdom is that your eyes should be directly over the golf ball, but most teachers will tell you that really it depends on where you’re most comfortable. A little inside the ball can be ideal for some golfers; it all depends on how best you see the line of the putt.
    - Another key thing that putting mirrors help check is alignment. While you’re checking to see if your eyes are over the ball, you can also make sure that your head isn’t tilted in an awkward way, or that your shoulders are pointing off in another direction. Pros, for the most part, use the mirror to make sure things are running parallel to the target line. He's very high percentage of tour players have putting mirrors in their bags.
    Cameron Smith:
"I use a putting mirror before every round.
The mirror enables me to make sure my body is in the correct position before I even take the putterhead back. My shoulders are square and my eyes are directly over the ball.
If either of those things are even slightly out, it affects the way the putter moves through the ball."

Never could understand why people use such devices? Find a straight practice putt and concentrate on feel. If you hole it your blade is aligned, even with a slightly wonky swing path. Why divert your attention away from "feel" with some gizmo you can't take with you on your round? Quality of strike and gauging of pace is all you need to focus on, the latter being pure feel which is enhanced by a good quality strike. Putting really is that easy! I putt lights out now I do just that. Shame it took me so long to acquire such "wisdom" (wink)

@@RollYourRock Would have given all that consideration years ago Rock when I over analysed everything mechanical in golf, but I now genuinely believe it's almost all hogwash and detracts the brain from doing what it does best ; fine tune an action involving coordination to deliver an outcome.
I've never seen snooker, pool, archer, basketball or dart player checking themselves with devices or using reductionistic approaches to their sport. They zone in on the target and a desired result and the rest happens by virtue of this amazing system of brain and central nervous system we have. It just needs feeding the purest possible data for best feedback and not distractions or stuff that clutters the mind🤷🏻‍♂️
There's an industry in every aspect of golf. Players at all levels feel they are missing out by not buying latest driver, gizmo or fad. Just my opinion but I cringe when I see players obsessing on putting greens focussed on devices. Remember that famous putt Jack showed Johnny Miller how to make? It's sorta like that. Miller got in his own way; Jack just executed😃
