With unseasonable rain and no roof, our stone house renovation gets really challenging this week and we're just about ready to pack it all in! I stopped watching news a while back when I realized that I was getting overly anxious and worried. They usually give only bad news.

John, I am sure your mum would understand. Just offer her the lovely office space. She would be happy to just see you. I am mum too, and trust me just seeing my son would be the best gift and I don't care about accommodation. ❤️

My thoughts exactly, us moms don’t care. Only problem is, us older parents need a toilet close by. That’s a must have for me.

Guys, I hate to see you struggling so much with something you can’t control! But the next time you build, after framing, put the beginnings a roof up. That way, when it rains, you can do “inside stuff”, and when the sun is shining, you can work on the “outside stuff.” And, work all the time!! Yay! 👏

Have you got a tarpaulin you could put on the roof to help keep everything dry to enable you to finish other areas? Love your resourcefulness with the bathroom cabinet, if there's a will there's always a way! 😍

Great Sunday Morning Newby family, well the rain is surely needed, here in the western part of the country we have wildfires, we been praying for rain to come, glad you are able to do other things in the meantime, as other friends have mentioned, John's Mom can certainly sleep in the Tiny House. Love the Newby bathroom cabinet, it looks lovely with it's stars decoration. ORIGINALITY is the SOURCE of ALL CREATION and John has plenty of it, we have seen it in his workmanship. Lots of things to do still but all in all it will be done no matter. Glad to see Crusoe not afraid of snakes but beware there are poisonous ones in the Mediterranean, a snake maybe a lizard without legs but they can bite too. I thought you drank water from a glass now that is an idea drinking water from a bowl have to try it😂😂😂😅. Humour they say is good for the bones, plenty of when passing time with you all. I was wondering if you had plans of creating a base to fill in the space under the sink cabinet ?? I’ve yet to see a sink cabinet that appears to have no bottom support. Just curious. 🧐 it is looking beautiful though.

Good morning Newby’s! Thanks again for doing what do. Regarding the floor height in your bathroom: I don’t know if this is an option for you, but I’ll throw it out. Polished Concrete floor. You grind down the concrete to a point where it’s smooth, and then you have the option to leave it and seal it or stain it a desired color and then seal it. You also have the option of leaving it looking like one big slab or, using a saw, you can cut in shallow “grout” lines. Anywho, just an idea. Love your channels as always. Stay dry!!

Some of you might not recognise when Tara's Southern Africa design ethic shines through. But that's where the look is often coming from - as with the bathroom sink and cabinet here.
John's own English/European/Forest woodwork ethic is so compatible. Love it.

Sometimes it’s ok to redirect. Not everything has to be perfect but be “perfectly imperfect”. Sometimes practical and simple is what counts. I would never lose time breaking down a floor but much rather get another tile that would make my job much easier and quicker. In the end, it’s just a floor! It will stay for many years, but unfortunately we don’t…. Spending time with family is what is most valuable and priceless! My priority is family. Not “things”. But I can see John being a perfectionist…. You be you.

I do a lot of my work in my home as well. I found it's easier to keep up with the mess than catch up. John definitely has a messy side.😂❤❤
I LOVE the sink "cabinet". It looks fabulous! I totally understand about the rain. Here in North Texas, we have been getting buckets of it. In the first 6 days June the total is over 5". Aww, I really feel for you both. The weather is crazy everywhere, so wet and cold. You have done so much and have worked so very hard, don’t stress. As I said previously John’s mum will be happy and comfortable in the tiny house. Her priority is spending time with you all and creating happy memories. I feel your pain. A cold wet spring here in the UK and the weather is still not much better. Today 9th June, cold strong wind blowing and definitely jumper time. More rain this week. So depressing and not good for flowers or veg. Terrible germination this year and leaves scorching in the cold wind. I hope you get your problems sorted before John's Mum arrives, I'm sure you will! "What do we do with John's mom?" Best line ever. Maybe skip the flooring in the bathroom and just finish and color the cement floor in the bathroom, or linoleum. And the "tiles that look like wood" debate was hysterical -- "they're beautiful," "they're ugly," "they're beautiful" -- ending with John looking off in the distance, "I think I hear a bird." You guys are stressed. Home renovations are right up there among life's greatest stressors, and your lives are a never ending renovation project. No chiseling!!! Too much!!! The dresser-vanity conversion is such a great idea. I did that once in a reno. But yours is absolutely Gorgeous! Can John's mom delay her visit by a couple weeks? And, yes, teaching children critical thinking is SOOO important! The Newbys are the best!
Unfortunately she has already booked her flights and we have guests coming straight after John’s mum leaves so no time to delay. I’m confident we will have a plan for her 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Yes, the weather won't be good this week! But all Mums want is to be with children and family - if they can participate in the reno, even better! I loved it in the photo and I love it in the installation. Beautiful vanity and very much the feel of the home. So glad that some sunshine came so you can dry things out but by all means put the roof wood on and get a fan to the floor if it isn't drying in time...........great job! Perhaps put some t-vek or the like on the roof after the wood is no to keep it dry of water until you get there. It can be a patio if need be until you can get it all dried in. I am sure your mother will enjoy being with you no matter what. The biggest gift to mothers is just the spending time and space with their loved ones..........especially with their children. I know you want it perfect, and it will be, as long as all of you are present. God bless you all!

One good thing about the constant rain, it replenishes the ground water. Where I live, we are getting more rain as well. It is depressing when it is dark and rains for weeks.

I'm an older Mum, there is no toilet in the tiny house, so I see their dilemma.
The weather in England, is just the same, rain, rain and more rain. I know we expect rain, it's the UK, but we do normally get consecutive dry days at this time of year, even if we don't have sunshine. Teaching the children resilience is never a bad thing. Problem solving skills will aid them better than a traditional education.
I absolutely love the vanity!! It’s gorgeous!! That’s something that went right.😂 Sometimes life gives you lemons. I’m sure John’s mom will understand😊.
