Uptick in bear sightings prompt alert at San Bernardino campground

- An increase in bear sightings in San Bernardino County campgrounds has prompted an alert from park officials, warning visitors to be on the lookout. “We have about 140 campsites plus six large group campsites and they’re basically full every weekend starting now so it’s very popular,” said Ryann Gill, California State Park Superintendent of Silverwood Lake.
As the weather warms up, more people will begin heading outdoors to enjoy activities at Silverwood Lake. Following the cold winter months, however, this is also when bears emerge from hibernation and sightings will be on the rise. “Bear activity isn’t uncommon at Silverwood,” Gill said. “We do have bear activity here, however, for the last three weeks, I would say we’ve had increasing instances of at least one bear entering our campsites.”
Recently, however, bear sightings were reported at the New Mesa and Old Mesa campgrounds, areas where Gill said bears are not typically seen.

Animal habitats are becoming scarce with new development, housing expansion so they will appear more cause they have no home to go to due to bulldozer, crane big buisness taken over parks, empty lots,reserved fire line/land,and forestry lands now...
Leave the Bears alone get the people out. It should be a time of wildlife rest where humans unable to disturb their natural wildlife for so many months a year alone in their natural environment these bears these beautiful bears need time away from humans as well. Instead of humans need time away from the Bears. It doesn’t work that way. Think about it.
