Jake and Nicole UR the hardest working young people I have ever seen. You have created your own world out there from the beginning to the end, from top to bottom, from back to front . Rain, sleet, or snow, sun up to sun down. Great job, Bravo !!! Bravo!!! Bravo !!! 2U

P trap should been used on the sink wind will blow in a strait pipe like that. Check out how to build a gray water pit. Dumping on the ground cause a stink because of food particles and it attracts animals. Screen on the end of the pipe will clog up with food particles.

  • @Bamaman14k

I certainly understand how excited you are about the sink. When I was younger we did survival camping during the summer. I understand how nice it is to actually have a sink instead of bending over the stream to wash your dishes or brush your teeth. It's looking fantastic and I know Jake is glad to have you back.
    God bless you both,
    Jimmy

Here in South Africa water from a kitchen sink is classified as black water and deamed as not suitable to be used in the garden mainly because of the risks associated with rotting food particles close to your home.

I have a small vawt and 2 100 watt solar panels with 6 T-105 Trojan batteries that I have been using to power my 131 yr old hotel in a small town in kansas. I usually have sun or wind and it allows me light and use of power tools. No electric bill and when everyone else power is out....I'm still working lol love it and love watching you both build your little sanctuary :)

For maintenance on the deep cycle lead acid battery watch and maintain the water level. Caution. Do not over fill. Watch the corrosion on the connections on the batteries. A product called NOCO is excellent for the prevention of corrosion and the connections are good if the are shiny. Gray is not clean. Corrosion is present. Just trying to help. My family own a battery business since 1957.

Decades ago in New Zealand I heard of off grid folks living in the bush who tied ropes high up on nearby trees. When the wind caused the trees to sway the ropes pull on a ratcheted wheel which turns a generator via gears. I don't know if anyone currently using such a rig, but your location would seem ideal to try it.

Jake, splitting wood is great cross training.... Learn to do it from both sides and with different arms on the top position. It'll take a cord or so to become a proficient 'switch hitter' but a few years later your body will appreciate it....

Too bad the sink is installed backwards, temporary or not. Also, a p-trap and a jiffy vent are essential !!! If that used soapy, and greasy waste water is just being dump on the ground outside, you are in for an eye-opener. Dig in a grey water tank ! Rick.

I told her that "yes I do love the rain" but it doesn't mean I want to just stand outside in it. LOL But on the other hand I don't go running inside with the first drop either. It's very calming and relaxing to me.

One thing I learned accidently messing around with solar power and car batteries is to use a battery inline (not looped for 24 volt) with a bad cell at the end you send to your dwelling it acts as a resistor allowing only what you need/ demand giving you a longer battery life.
