I read 19th century farming journals as a hobby, and according to the July 1, 1856 issue of The Illinois Farmer the term "pumpkin" was usually applied to fodder varieties, while the term "squash" was applied to culinary varieties. But even in that article they throw their hands in the air and ask "but who can define the exact difference between pumpkin and squash?"

Good-day Malc!👋 Y'all certainly have a sweet harvest of pumpkins and squash! Beautiful!👍
Fun to watch the harvest and to learn what on earth a marrow is.😄
I've heard UK gardeners mention marrows a few times...figured it was just another type of squash y'all enjoy.
Great workout and lovely beds you are passing along.😃
I roast and pureed some of my pumpkin...stores well in the freezer. I also make some into a powder. Doesn't take of freezer space and taste great when rehydrate and added to pancakes, etc.🙂
Continued good times and happy fall!😃🍂

Wow a harvest to be proud of there Malcolm 😊. Mine was a little smaller with three decent size Uchiki Kuri from two plants, I would have had more but the smaller ones shrivelled as it got super hot and I struggled to keep up with the watering due to the drought. I also had two small crown Prince which I am looking forward to eating and a Marina do Chioggia, a lovely dark green heritage squash. Oo and three Baked potato squash which when baked in the oven the flesh is just like baked potato apparently. Looking forward to those too. Good times indeed

Loved watch you harvest your pumpkins I love this time of year it’s my favourite. Mine failed really I just got one plus summer squash patty pan types and itchi kuri’s I have 4 so not total failure but not many for storing. Also my runners I grow for drying for winter also failed not many of those 😫but I grateful for our abundant tomatoes have made so many sauces for freezer. Courgettes have been amazing and have made stew started with those and onions and garlic for freezer so we do have food for over the winter and of course kale and other fresh brassicas growing. But your pumpkin harvest is amazing so happy for you. It will be sad for you to give it up. But needs must as they say. Good times👍
