  • There are numerous alternate trails along the PCT - Crater Lake, Eagle Creek and the Ramona Falls alternates are some of the popular ones. The Oregon Skyline Trail is an alternate that nearly all PCT thru-hikers take who are resupplying at Shelter Cove because it's about 8 miles shorter, 1000 feet lower in elevation and has more water sources than the corresponding section of the PCT.

"five-mile death march" - that cracked me up!

I love how you show your town stops. A lot of other vloggers seem to never do that. I know you're on alternate routes, but it's still nice how detailed you are in the videos.

I know people are mainly interested in the trail, but I tried to show parts of the whole experience.

Luckily they're near the PCT. Most people take these detours to see these two spectacular water falls. I'm glad I did too.

Those lakes are so clear - its like looking through glass! You've gotten really good at slogging through snow - doesn't slow you down much any longer. :)

They were exceptionally clear in that section. Someone told me one of the reasons they were clear was because they don't contain oxygen.

With the weather and snow at upper elevations, me and 99% of the hikers were happy to take the OST.

The sound you heard while doing laundry was the chirping of an agitated Douglas Squirrel. It fools a lot of people thinking it's a bird. They have a big attitude for a small squirrel.

Capt Dan! I hate that the first time I contact you to be a request! I've been thoroughly enjoying your videos of your journey, feel that I may know you in a way. Thanks for sharing with us all. Can you share with me/us the name of that wonderful soulful tune that's playing while you're on the swing, it's kind of playing through you and is so appropriate for the setting. I've only gotten this far in your PCT videos and am savoring each of them. Thanks. Peuped ("pew ped", AT trail name from long ago).

Hi Peuped. Glad you're enjoying the videos. The song is "I'm Not The Only One" by Sam Smith, and it's covered by missingiimprovisation on RUclips. If you search for that on RUclips you'll find it. At the end of this PCT playlist, I've got four videos that are a compilations of all the musical interludes in my videos. You can find out the names of other songs on them. Thanks for watching the videos! Hope you had a great time on the AT.
