    so many nice lakes... and funny about the pines.. drives me nuts trying to tell what is what.. so many different pines firs etc too even if you can tell pine from fir or spruce. trying to find out for sure but looks like bark beetles wrecked that forest ive seen it in a few vids.

      I think you're right about the beetles. A few people have mentioned them. I wish I could have hiked with a botanist, a geologist and a historian. Their knowledge would have added so much to the hike.

      Captain Dan ha yeah that would be nice// sounds like good chance it is the beetles, maybe someone who knows for sure will see this and comment

      Most of the trees at the beginning of the video are fir trees. But the ones that are silvery and dead are pine and were killed by the outbreak of the Mountain Pine Beetle. All throughout this section and north of there on the PCT you will see A LOT of this beetle kill.

    This is definitely not the Umpqua National Forest :) Here you are walking through the Deschutes National Forest.
