Despite being an American tv drama, most cast are from Canada. One of them is the first actual Vietnamese refugee in Toronto and the famous host from Paris by Night is playing her deceased mother in the drama.

As an Asian guy who trained for five years to earn my black belt. I kinda expect tough guys on screen to be more than simply some actor with a tattoo and gun. Learn combat skills. Btw, the new Karate Kid movie stars an Asian teen(with black belt) alongside Jackie Chan and Daniel-san.

I saw the first episode and I thought it was good. IMO all children of Vietnamese immigrants are told stories of the war. Me being my parent's first child born in America I was told these stories too, but it was hard to connect or really imagine it. The show gave me a visualization of what people went through that I didn't have. I mean the whole escape scene, that's scary stuff. Some of the characters bring creditability to show, the wife of the general is the daughter of the prime minster at the time of the fall. It was pretty eye opening. I hope you guys watch it and come back and share what you think.

Much more complex than Andrew Lau's character who wants to pay back his mob leader. It's purely gratitude and materialistic. If he senses he can move up in police force he will while character of sympathizer is twisted between ideals he believes and the reality of society he lives everyday after he moved to US.

My only complaint about this show is the main character played by Hoa Xuande doesn't look anything like half Viet-half French. He looks more like mixed with Cho Lon's Chinese. I know quite a number of Vietnamese mixed with French (usually their granddad/ great granddad) and there's no way a hapa would look like this.
Other than that, it's a great show. Especially the scenes of Saigon pre-75, it looks so real and so close to what Saigon used to look like!

I saw both seasons of quantum leap and it was a good middle of the road show. Nothing ground breaking and the writing could have been better and less trope heavy. The main character being a korean immigrant is brought up a few times from him having regrets about his relationship with his mother who died when he was very young to a storyline where he and magic (his boss in the show who's black) travel to LA during the rodney king riots and how it wrecked relations between the Korean and black communities. Him marrying a white woman and being in an interracial relationship is discussed in the show a little better than some network shows. There was a nonbinary msin character who was the tech genius in the group, they played dream in the sandman series, this character helped the show explore transgebder and queer issues but really only got 2 episodes to directly address these issues, thry still got some key development in the story though. There's another asian character in the show that was a criminal but because of her boss got a secind chance and became the head security officer for the whole project. There were sone good stories in the show exploring different parts of history but overall it was a pretty mid tier show.

Park Chan-Wook is one of my favorite filmmakers, so I'm looking forward to watching this show. But as far as supporting Asian male shows or movies, as long as the content is good, I'll support it. But to just say that you have to support this show or that movie because the star is Asian, is non sense to me.
