Interior is a hodgepodge of styles including all decorative Greek columns and carved ceilings. I think their French Chateau is much more curated and tasteful restoration than this eclektic manor.
What a gorgeous home Christina and Carl have created. It was so kind of them to host you and let us get a glimpse into another part of the world. What incredible life experiences you are giving your children! Thank you all for being so gracious.
What a lovely episode! It was so wonderful of your new friends to open their home to you and also allow us to come inside with you…such an amazing home, thank you to all for letting us share this experience! 🙌
To see Swedish fabrics and wall paper was very cool. I see and I'm sure Anna sees a lot of English & French designs but to see Swedish is interesting. It's very proper and simple, stripes with flowers, muted colors of cream, white, red & blues. Very interesting.
The manor house is so upscale in taste. Their ability to decorate is so layered tastefully. Definitely gifted in combining different periods in useful ways.
I collect Swedish antiques because of the simple beauty they exude. Their homes reflected the same. Many homes had painted walls and pillars because they could not afford the luxuries in the 17 hundreds that were common in France.
I love Swedish Tole/Rosemaling/Kurbits/Dala (Dalarna) folk painting! 💗💞❣ There are still a lot of ladies who practice this folk-art painting who are of Swedish or Norwegian ancestry in America ...especially in Minnesota. That's where I learned to polka and waltz and first learned about "Hambo" dancing when I moved to Minnesota in my 30's and went to barn dances/ or big halls where polka bands still played.
@@kindlydudeit's a lively folklore style, but not for manor houses. In Swedish it's called allmoge, meaning the commoners regional styles, and they differ from Skåne in the south all the way up to Norrland. You can get alot of this for very low prices here these days, certain painters names from specific places like Järvsö, Helsingland etc run high at auction as there's always the few collectors, but generally the style is out of favor (not trendy) amongst the young so out in the country or at swedish online markets they're generally really inexpensive. You could fill a container and ship and not break the bank. 😉
@@gnarbeljo8980 Swedish antiques sell for big bucks in the US. That’s why I buy directly from European/Swedish dealers. I have a few Ephraim stahl pieces. Ten years ago I saw 4 klismos chairs out a dealer in Texas and they were literally 40000 US dollars.

Anna, I think you might have some Scandanavian DNA as you tend to lean into the design style you see there! Quite and exciting video! Cheers and smooth sailing!
What a great experience for you! Did they say they have 38 bedrooms?! Haha that's a bit much to decorate if you aren't running a B&B or hotel! 😄 Lovely grounds, and house, I especially liked that room with the view and window nook, I can imagine reading in that window. The story of the red paint on Swedish houses is kind of interesting. It's technically not paint at all. It's red earth from specigic regions where there were copper mines. Falun in the area of Dalarna has given it the name Falu Rödfärg. The red is a natural pigments from iron ore and copper, silicic acid and 21 natural minerals in the earth. It can be heat treated to produce a bright red to dark, a dark brown more common far north, and is for raw cut unplaned timber. It's everywhere in the counyry because unlike paint, its really a treatment of the wood, fully breathable, that protects from rot and mould spores. As the climates changes dramatically throughout the year, other paints create a film under which these damages occur, whereas the Rödfärg is like a pwedered layer that fully diffusive, besides the minerals giving a special glow in the light. It's documented to have been used since at least the 1500s. Binder is linseed oil which also seeps into the wood grain and conditions it. When it starts to chalk and leave red powdery residue on your hand, it's time to simply brush the facade with a bristle brush, and give it another layer. Pigments available naturally in Scandinavia that also combinebwill with lime, water and a binder were limited. The yellow had a breakthrough with a very famous Swedish architect Nicodemus Tessin junior, who came bavk from Southern Europe inspired by Italian yellow brick and convinced King Karl XIII to issue a decree to paint all large stately houses in in the capital, Stockholm yellow in 1699. From there shades of yellow spread to manors across the country, many in a more subtle orange-yelloe reminiscent of French sandstone. All these were naturally occuring ochre pigments. This very punchy yellow in the video is a much later variety popular today on any house. Sorry for the nerdiness. Just thought I'd add that for Anna who was curious abiut the design history. 😊

Such a gorgeous home! I love how they’ve stayed away from putting in traditional, historical soft furnishings. I find so many chateau owners do that and it looks so uncomfortable to actually live with today. It’s a home and a blend of old and new is much more interesting.
