- Welcome to my annual Stephen King 24 reading vlog! This year I took a slightly more relaxed approach to Stephen King reading and took my time with one of his books - which is now a firm favourite! Jay and I also spent the week watching lots of halloween movies and shared our thoughts on some classics - enjoy!

Ciara, I challenge thee to read The Dark Tower saga in one of your 24hr runs. It's "only" seven novels long ;) It's one series of novels that I'd suggest EVERYONE reads, even if they don't usually like Stephen King. It's the centrepiece of his entire body of work. It will give you a whole new layer of understanding in his other novels. Many of them are interconnected in some obscure way with The Dark Tower.
Sometimes I feel like some readers look down on Stephen King books, as if they're not high brow enough or something. I firmly stand in the read whatever makes you happy camp and I do genuinely enjoy his writing style and his world building. I'm excited to read The Institute now, thanks for the recommendation :)
Totally agree - I think some people love to hate things just because the thing is popular, but I think his books are great! Hope you enjoy the institute!
He is VERY prolific, and his quality ranges a lot. There's plenty of really good King novels, and a few less than stellar novels. I'd recommend Hearts In Atlantis (a collection of connected novellas and short stories). I'd also recommend The Dark Tower saga. It's the centrepiece of Stephen King's entire body of work.
i am currently reading the institute and i'm 113 pages in and i already love it, this just got me more excited to continue reading it!

I’ve not read very many King books, but I remember enjoying Gerald’s Game and Thinner. Love the scenery on your walk!
I started The Institute a while ago and read a few chapters but I somehow couldn't really get into it. I'm gonna give it another try maybe next year.
“Firestarter” was a good book and I saw the movie in the theater recently (it was good). I read “The Stand” although it’s quite long. There is also a paramount plus show adaptation to it.
Lovely vlog. I honestly hadn't thought about Hide and Seek in years and had to look up what the twist was because I could not remember. Have you ever watched The Others? It's one of my favorite Halloween-worthy movies.
I have read Misery last weekend and I loved it! Now I will read the Institute as it sounds amazing! I am not into horror, so this sounds perfect!
The walk near the rivers is idyllic! ❤️ And the day with your mom and sister is just what the doctor recommends for the soul! 🤗

The Institute was the first Stephen King book i read and it's one of my favourites too! i'm sooo glad you enjoyed it, i feel like it's slightly underrated!
I’ve only ever watched Steven Kings movies, I want to read the books, I just didn’t get around to it with month. What lovely scenery‼️ I finally caught up on House of The Dragon and wow‼️ I love A Muppets’ Christmas Carol‼️ I didn’t watch too many scary stuff accept for Dead End: Parnormal Park, House of The 🐉, however if all goes well I will put on another mystery or horror something that is in between‼️
Ps: yesterday I finished A Far Wilder Magic it was super good‼️ Then this morning I finished A Dowry of Blood it was awesome‼️ Up next I’m picking up The Marriage Plot by Maggie O’Farrell and Youngblood Sasha Laurens‼️
Would definitely recommend trying some of his books!
I would have to agree with Jay in giving Aliens the no.1 spot.I'm also enjoying the Stephen King adaptation Chapelwaite with Adrien Brody.The series is based on a story called Jerusalem's Lot,rather like Salem's Lot but based in the early 1800's.💝

Stand by me is the adaptation of the short story called the Body from the different seasons collection. Really like Stephen King 's novels. He 's a great writer.

I think you'd really like Firestarter by Stephen King. I think it has a similar vibe to the institute.

The first Firestarter starred, IIRC, Drew Barrymore (as the child) but I can't say I know who took the role for the more recent re-make of it. In between those two there has been one or two with essentially the same plot though not with the exact title, Firestarter.
I watched the sixth sense for the first time in middle or high school, and my dad came in and spoiled the twist like five minutes before it was revealed.
I have to say that I liked Mr. Harrigan's Phone. It wasn't the best film ever but I thought that it was made in Stephen King's Style in the sense that you first get to know the characters and the further you watch/read the more happens. But I can definitely see why people find that movie boring. Also I haven't read the short story yet that might be also a reason why I liked the movie.
I would give it 3 solid stars out of 5. :)

I liked this movie too! Some good performances!
Aliens is my all time favourite movie. The thing is amazing, sixth sense is good, American psycho I love. I thought Institute was good but firestarter was better and very similar.

Clearly IMHO the chainsaw and the police car had to have been products of the imagination, though possibly other things, such as the dinner with his fiancée could be reality accurately recalled, tho ofc idk either. If It Bleeds was pretty good, though one story, the experimental one about Chuck, was not fun to read. Earlier this month I listened on Audible to Billy Summers, which was not horror in any conventional sense altho some of the characters were monsters. I've been re-reading the Shakespeare plays (27 of 38 so far), so it was important to give myself a little me time with one of my favorite authors.
I think what makes it such a good film is that you think it’s so absurd it has to be in his imagination but then every so often a scene comes up that makes you doubt that reality! Impressive work on the Shakespeare reading - do you have a favourite?
@@ciarascorner I used to say my favorites are The Winter's Tale and/or Love Labor's Lost, but I just re-read Coriolanus, and it's so powerful, as is Richard III. Then, the other day I re-read Julius Ceasar and it is so streamlined, like Macbeth. Like being in a new, fast car. So I don't know I can say I have a favorite, especially since I'm coming up on the great tragedies, King Lear, Hamlet, Othello, and Romeo and Juliet, and I don't need to tell anyone how wonderful they are. As you likely can tell, I'm really enjoying this project, very hard work notwithstanding.
