I started fishing 40 or so years ago and up until my 20s i loved all species, then carp fishing took over my life and oddly it spawned pike fishing, ive only fished those two species now for the last 20 years. Ive had many huge pike to 36lb from the broads and all over europe as well as carp, currently exploring German lakes which are amazing. Anyway, Pike are beautiful fish and i am so happy that today there are so many educational safety videos available to youngsters or those wishing to target pike. I remember when i started that most people thought they are hard fish, leave them to run for five minutes after a take before striking and all sorts of other nonsense in regard to fishing for them etc. In reality they are extremely fragile fish and require as much if not more care and gentle handling than any other species. Im so happy to see youngsters with their gloves and safety mats and pinched barbs and general handling of pike and fish. its a big change in the right direction from the old days and its videos like this and watching other experienced anglers thats helped toward it for sure Great video, enjoyed it alot, glad i found this channel for sure!
Lovely fish glad you caught some. The pike I'm holding in my profile picture is what I had next to those two trees/bushes near the bridge you were catching those pike from. Had some cracking pike from this location over the years.
I too have had 1000 plus pike in 20 years and i havent had a 30 but have lost a couple that could of been !!!! My biggest is from Hampton court wier in my boat and it was 28 lb when i weighed her so yeah i know how hard it is to get that 30 !!!! But i had a 600lb Blue Marlin in grand canaria fishing for a week and it seems easier than that 30 lb pike !!! Love your videos pal and good luck for that 30
Much respect for your hard work and dedication to land the big girls. Proper fishing that. And yes you are so right, species like carp, bream, tench have got bigger over the years. Not so the Pike. The numbers of their food fish in decline as cormorants ravage away, then add to that the devastation caused by the Otter and fish taken for food. Big Pike fishing has never been so difficult with both numbers and fish size in decline….unless you go to the constantly restocked trout waters. So when you catch the big ones now from a natural venue it is more special than it has ever been. I can see why you were stoked to catch. Happy hunting, great video!!🎉
WELL DONE. In Ireland i spent 7 years bivvying for pike, only jacks at night but at first light and last light, double takes were common. enjoyed the video..
Pike fishing is in a bit of a sorry state in the area i live (west Yorkshire) as you say predation and "other things connected with fishing " have really had an effect in my area. However they are still there although in lower numbers. Im just about to switch my fishing from barbel to pike as i often do from early December and your video has given me the bug again. Tight lines mate.
Lovely video, one of my local stretches, seems like luck was definitely on your side as many have struggled recently. Looking forward to the next instalment Tight lines!
Another nice video buddy. Congrats on the 2 fish. Your care and consideration for the fish is something I am really trying to master now that ive been deadbaiting year now.
I don't fish for pike but I really enjoy your videos. You're clearly knowledgeable and I like your passion, dedication and patience. I also appreciate the lack of hysteria when you catch a good fish, unlike the shouting, fist pumping and general overacting I often see on other fishing channels.
Another great video mate. I think i recognise where this is, I ought to start exploring online about fishing some drains although I'd probably do it with lures.
Congratulations on that first fenland pike, what a beauty! It is always a great feeling when you use your watercraft skills and hard work to find the fish. Your bite indication seems to buck all the standard thinking, are you just fishing buzzers and baitrunners?
I fish the local canals and had some really nice fish over the years not a lot of people fish these canals so the fish are mostly left in peace. Talking big fish during the lockdown i would walk my dog down the canal and found a dead pike belly up but still fresh I rushed home got some scales and went back to weigh it wow a couple of ounces under 28lb shame it was dead so in reality there mus be a 30 swimming around somewere
It seems when you talk to anglers over a certain age you often hear them say river venues don’t fish as well as they used too. It could be predators or coarse but either way there’s a lot of change since the 70’s and 80’s. As always some lovely fish caught 👍
Great pike big up I fish the Thames there is some real monsters in the Thames but you need a boat to get to the parts that other anglers can't get too but I take my hat of to you you are a great angler god bless tight lines kind regards predator angler
Cheers, if the fish looks like a new personal best then I'll weigh it but generally I'm not interested in weighing fish I want to get them back in the water asap

That pike looks like my wife first thing in the morning 😂
Been reading the book Doomsday book of mammoth pike recently, and it's very clear that monster pike don't exist in the same numbers like they used to.
Great pike big up I fish the Thames there is some real monsters in the Thames but you need a boat to get to the parts that other anglers can't get too but I take my hat of to you you are a great angler god bless tight lines kind regards predator angler

Do you always fish off of your bait runners rather than drop offs with an open bail arm?
I use both
