- A video showcasing the beauty of Nilgiri Mountain Railway running from Mettupalayam to Ooty/Udagamandalam, a UNESCO world heritage site. This meter gauge hill railway is popular Ooty tourism attraction. It runs with steam locomotive from Mettupalayam to Coonoor & a diesel locomotive from Coonoor to Ooty. This clip contains footage from full journey from Mettupalayam to Ooty & some additional footage shot from trackside, in a day of chasing the train by road.

@@johnnysins9132 since the train climbs, it is attached to rear so that the possibility of coaches rolling back downhill (in case of coupling failure) is eliminated

Why the engine is pushing, not pulling the train? 9:02
Due to steep slope the engine is always kept at the downhill end. This is to ensure that even in unfortunate incident of coupler between coaches breaking, no coach rolls downhill.
Pushing of engine from behind will make sure the coach does not go down

It is normally on cogwheel sections, unless all carriages are equipped with a toothed wheel on which the braking system acts. Here in Italy, the statutory provisions for rack railways in force at the Confederatio Helvétique (CH) are applied. So, for example, few people know that the maximum speed allowed when going downhill is lower than the maximum speed allowed when going uphill.
