My "She Shed" Is Getting a Deck! Let's Clean Up the Garden Areas, Too! - Thrift Diving

- Sorry I've been gone for so long!! I've been consumed with getting my garden areas cleaned up (and battling pest infestations), as well as prepping the "she shed" so that I can build a 4'x8' deck!! I have never tackled a deck before, so I was really nervous about getting started. You'll see the deck build in the next video, but in this video, I'm sharing with you all the prep that went into cleaning up the garden areas, including a sneak peek at the new deck!

I can't believe it's been 2 years since you got your shed. Feels like just yesterday I was watching the "series"
Right?!? It's insane! I think the end of September will officially mark 2 years!!!
You're the bomb sis! I made sure to watch this with the volume high! So my husband could see that there are more boss babe DIYers like myself! I squealed at the end because you literally nailed it! I can't wait to see the next video! So proud of you!!! ❤ 🎉
Hi BeautyBus, gee, your profile name set me back to the 1960s-1970s when I lived in Washington Heights. I was walking distance to the Port Authority and would catch the busses to Jersey, and to Palisades Park. Oh sentimental me 😢 Have a sweet night and happy weekend 😊
Yes girl, let that man know that we out doing things, sweating our tails off, making things pretty and improved! Lol
@@ThriftDiving 😆 🤣 😂 period! Love it all! 💕
Lisssten! You are such an inspiration. Just had a "shed" built by an Amish company. I say "shed" as it is a 3-car garage with a loft. It will be a wood shop, bike shop and lawn equipment storage. I keep coming back to your videos on wiring. I too have a deck remodel to do, but on the house. You have me thinking maybe I can tackle it by myself.
Ipe wood is no joke ..
Thank you for taking the time to share your projects. Super helpful (even the one about building a gaming PC :) ).
Wow, what a huge "shed" you got there! Amish-build structures are super high quality, so I know it looks amazing! I'm glad I can help and inspire with my videos! Hopefully it won't take you nearly 2 years, like mine! 🤣 But if you're having fun, take all the time you need. And yes, you could do your deck! It wasn't too hard, just time consuming because each step was new and I needed to make sure I was doing it right! Video to come maybe today!
I like how this tied in with your last podcast. Lovely work.
Aww, you listen to my podcast! Thank you!
Wow, can't wait to see the finished deck. You have such great, useful skills, and I can't even use a simple power drill. Or drain snake, which would have saved me $420 over the weekend. Thanks, Serena! 🤩
It pays to have some knowledge of using tools, defintely! I am hoping to put together a power tools course soon, so if you're interested in that, go enter your name over here! thriftdiving.com/tools. I will help you to learn how to use tools, for sure! :)
@@ThriftDiving I signed up, Serena - thank you so much!!
Great job! You sure put a great deal of hard work into this project! Thanks for sharing.
Oh my goodness, it's been SO much hard work. But worth it!! Thank you for watching!
Can't wait to watch the deck video!
It's coming!! I am hoping to post it this evening!
Hey TD, spraying your yard and structures exterior is a must. In NC we have these little bastards called chiggers and they are horrible. I also use the bottles that connects to the garden hose. I purchase an extra bottle for my home and shed exterior. I also use foggers for my shed interior. I look forward to seeing your deck, the preview look epic.
Ooh, chiggers are the ones that bite and itch like madness! Yikes, is take harmless clover mites any day! Lol. Actually, all of them are horrible, harmless or not. They're so disruptive! Thanks for commenting!!
Loved this! And your right sometimes you just have to do what you don’t want to and use what works! . Glad you took safety into consideration and wore your long sleeves and gloves! I do the same I just wear a mask as well! 😊 keep it up!
I'm always trying to keep safety in mind, except the times it slips my mind! LOL. But I always do try! :) Thank you for watching!
Great job Serena it looks amazing hope your well BEST wishes Phil 🙏👍
Hey Phil!! Thank you. I'm doing very well!
I love how you explain your projects, and do a lot of it yourself. Also, side note, your curl pattern is lovely! :D
I have a she shed that was home built and I have so much to do for the outside. I wish I had thought about using DE for pests…maybe when I get the outside area done. Yours looks like mine almost. I used the gray flooring from Lowe’s that I had leftover from the inside flooring. I like the way yours turned out. I will have to watch a few more episodes to see the porch and what you plan to use your shed for…I think I will turn mine into a tiny home eventually… it’s just storage now. I also bought the air conditioner/ heater you have. It’s great to see other women do these things.
I'm going to have to hire you Serena 😊 You are great 👍
Lol, glad you like it!
Great video!! The new garden beds makes my heart smile. Good luck with the mites. I use Seven lawn granules in a spreader for the lawn along with routine Seven spray directly on plants to control mites, white flies and other pest. Good luck! I love your content. Always informative😊
Wow what a great idea!!!
For insects, look up some old fashioned remedies. We have used simple things like vinegar for ants.
But caulk is your friend.
Looks amazing!
I appreciate that!! :)
Look at caulking where the wood meets the concrete. Also any opening where bugs can come in.
The bugs will come in anyhow, unfortunately. The Tuff Shed system requires the metal framing to have holes for air flow. So even if I caulked that's area, the venting would still allow them to get in. 🤷
I can’t wait for the next vid to see the deck!!
It's coming maybe tonight!!! If I can get all the editing done. Lol. Or tomorrow at the latest.

Wow! You are fabulous. Hard but beautiful work.
Fresh mulch is the best!
I have never heard of clover mites before (I hope that means they are not in my area, yuck 😁).
Last year we had an ant infestation; not fun! I threw out my Instant pot because they had built a 'nest' in it-there were sooooo many ants in it 😱. I also hate to use pesticides, but I draw the line at 'bugs' in my house.
Looking forward to the next video!
I feel the same way! If the bugs are outside, not a problem. Stay outside. But if you cross that threshold, it's war! LOL.
You can plant citronella plants around your shed and flowering herbs like sage it grows into a shrub with purple flowers
Great work as always! Where does time goes , 2 yrs in your she shed already . Seems like 6 months lol I enjoy watching u . Looking great see u on your next log
It's looking pretty.
GREAT JOB!!
I agree. I would rather use a bug killer even though I don't like using chemicals.
Exactly, because what else will work with keeping them out? We have a lot of clover in our yard, too, so the yard is like a huge buffet for them.
very cool!!
We don’t have gutters. You MUST angle the ground away from the house. Check every five years.
Yay!!!
Wow😮 lv it ▪︎▪︎▪︎you made my dreams come true 😅😅
Ooh, just wait until you see it. It looks sooooo nice. Walking into it is no longer an ankle breaker!
It looks similar to the deck Modustrial Maker put on his roof...his was much larger bit it seems like the same concept.
Awesome, glad mine wasn't too far off! I think that's why it took so long is because I wanted to do it right.

Another channel doing a rehab on a farm used d-fence insecticide dust in the seams safe for pets and people. Says it's professional. 🤓
Yes, I think I have heard of D-Fence!
