  • On February 17, New York's City Council held a hearing to examine Walmart's notoriously bad labor practices in response to the company's plans to open stores throughout the city. Several Walmart workers were on hand to tell their stories. These are two of them.

I worked at Walmart for 12 years and trust me, what they are saying in this video is 100% true. It takes forever to move up. When I left Walmart I was a support manager making $15 an hour when that position at the time "caps out" at $27 an hour. I started out as a cashier making $7.70 an hour. At the rate I was going it probably would have taken me at least 20 more years to make it to my maximum pay scale. I make a lot more money now as a contractor working in the skilled construction trades.

I am a college student and working with Walmart for a year now and trust me its hell , they torture their employees to death
1.Manager dont do their job and ask employees to do their job for them.
    2. Supervisor are not present espically at cash register when you need them most.
3.I saw one of my friend get harrassed by a customer, instead of kicking customer out superviser sugar coated and give customer gift card and coached that employee and she was literally crying.
3.They keep messing up your schedule and wont fix it aka you will get tardiness
    4. I am student and I need less then 30 hours, Walmart think 39 hours are part time and 50 hours is full time. They keep increasing my work hours and work load.
    5. They make you to do stuff which is not under your job description. One I was feeling sick I tried talking to my manager I caint push carts and pushing carts is not under my job description she said "WHY YOU NO CO OPERATING" she make me push carts for three hours and mule was broke and instead of helping me ahe was smoking outside.

I worked for walmart for almost 5 years. I was uploading videos to youtube. I had a series called "shit that pisses me off" where I would rant once a week about something. Nobody on youtube or anywhere in social media knew where I worked. I did a video where I ranted about third shift frozen not doing their jobs, and that day and second shift were tired of doing all the work. Even though I never said where I worked or any names, and even though one of the managers told me that the only way to violate social media policy was to say those things, I was fired. They fired me and said it was because "enough people knew I worked at walmart and it could hurt sales" and it was a violation of social media policy. They put the information into the system the day after I was fired and said I was fired for "gross misconduct, harassment, and discrimination". The real reason I was fired was because a support manager on third shift, who didn't have the balls to turn me in himself, had his wife, who was a cashier, turn it in. He had it out for me because I, and the other people on first and second, were running circles around his crew. There were also certain members of management that would harass me on a daily basis about my hair. I had long hair and I was constantly threatened to be fired for my hair being long. They had a cashier dye her hair because the didn't "like it" and "it isn't professional". They also made another associate quit because he had a mohawk. They are a horrible place to work for if you aren't willing to be a mindless robot.

I hate it when someone states "if you don't like the way you are being treated by your employer then quit." There's a difference between company policy and abuse. If an individual is employed--whoever the employer is then the worker should be granted a livable wage and not be bully and bombarded by upper management because they fear the loss of their jobs as well. It's a horrific cycle with the workers at Walmart.

    • @bmw803
      @bmw803 6 лет назад

Livable wage? Based on what? You don't like the employment agreement. FUCK OFF and find better. You can't expect anyone to pay a guy who is mopping floors the same wage as a guy managing a whole store or a district. Or a guy who's in charge of the company finances, etc. Your wage comes from what you're worth and productivity you bring. Just like anything else. Supply and demand. Anyone can mop floors with no training and get the job done. So, that job is less valuable. But, if you're in charge of a big company's marketing strategy and you bring in billions more in the company's coffers, your salary will reflect that value.

Daniel Bunner I worked as an overnight stocker for 2 years straight.. some managers were really kool, some were horrible.. I had obtained an injury in my arm through weight lifting and I wore an obvious cast and told the manager, the manager would always ask me how is your arm doing, and one day when she asked I told her, "it hurts, it's in pain." She just nodded. Then, near the end of my shift, she comes around, her cylindrical, over-weight body walking peacefully up to me at 80k a year, while I sweat my ass off for less than 20, and even knowing I had told her my arm was in pain and injured, tells me to go around the store, from GM to Grocery and pick up all the empty wooden palettes off the floor, stack them up and pull them to the back with the jack.. unreal, and she was directly told by me earlier that my arm hurt and was in pain, those wooden palettes are cumbersome and weight a good 40 pounds each..why the hell would you ask me about my physical condition if you're going to induce strenuous lifting on me regardless? And your co-workers, at least mine in my area, are completely out there too.. Most in their 40s-60s, and miles away from adults psychologically. They were all so immature and vindictive. One maintenance guy acted like a child and would drive around the store on his ass on the scrubber all day while I sweat my ass off all night getting ridiculous amounts of merchandise stocked on the shelves. Then when he would see a piece of plastic on the floor or something he'd start his bitching for the night about the mess on the floor, all pissed off because he had to hop up off his high horse scrubber and actually get up for a second to pick something up..that's if he did, most of the time he would get up, walk all the way over to me and yell at me and point at a tiny piece of plastic like I was a dog and tell me to pick it up. Mind you I'm sweating my ass off and he's up on his feet for the first time in 2 hours.. Walmart is a terrible place to work in all aspects..rant over.

Too many people there have social issues and everyone is miserable. The environment stinks, and I feel anxious whenever I'm about to enter the building.

I worked for Walmart about 2 yrs and it is basically intimidation and fear. There were people that had worked there for 10 plus years and were constantly scared of losing their jobs, were given undoable tasks every night, shift managers would walk around and basically do nothing but intimidate employees. I felt so bad for these employees that is all they knew and that was there lively hood. I only worked there when the unemployment rate was so high and I had been laid off of my normal profession. One night this little dweeb shift manager got right in my face and started yelling at me, spital flying, I told the little twerp he needed to get out of my face and back off, I did not fit in very well there. Lol. Was so happy the last day I clocked out, but still think about some of my co-workers and hope they are doing ok and that place has not worked them to death.

I work at Wendy's and its almost the same thing as they both explained here in this video. When I was going to get promoted to crew leader one of the managers wanted me to delegate tasks and such to my peers. So I delegated and delegated and delegated all the task that she told me to delegate. Keep in mind, before I was going to get promoted to crew leader I was the one who was basically doing everything in the store. If I could somehow avoid doing something, I would , because otherwise I would be selling my soul this hell hole. The managers train you to be assholes. So when I declined the promotion, they got super pissed at me because they told me everything about everybody. Who they hate, who they like and who is a "slow" worker and whatnot. They basically spilled the beans about who they liked and who they didn't like. I am basically a guy who was supposed to be promoted, but denied and now I know too much information they are out to get me. Today was my first day back at work after having "the talk" about why I was declining the promotion and all the managers were giving me cold shoulders and are sort of starting to create a paper trail on me. This place never writes anyone up. If I get written up it will probably mean they are trying to get me fired. They have been ignoring me the whole day and giving my job to other people. They didn't talk to me. They don't want to talk to me. I asked them if I have to do anything and then all of a sudden I have to do tasks enough for 4 people in less than about an hour. Plus, today was shipment day too. So on top of doing 4 things at once, I also had to put shipment away. Bs. Passive aggressive runs this whole place. Its horrible. They just don't know what to do. They seem so focused on me They forget they actually have a job to do

It was my second full day working in my dept and this manager screams in my face cause of returns left in the cart. My goodness it was so ridiculous. She said you have thirty minutes to put two carts away or else. I be like lol I’m out. I didn’t tell her that I finished my shift and called in this morning. Walmart came into our small town and 3 out of 4 of our grocery stores had to shut down. Walmart comes in and lowers prices to an insanely los amount, then when the competition is gone they raise the prices back so they can make a huge profit. They told my girlfriend she was needed in another department for a week and that she would work less hours. When she came to work the department told her they didn't need her and that she could return to her usual department. But, since she was scheduled for less hours that week, she worked her normal job. at less hours. Walmart basically found a way to cut her hours without making it seem like they were.

Walmart is a DUMP. They are the filthiest store ever. I have never seen such dirty, unkempt, and unstocked stores full of the rudest employees (not all of them) ever. I would rather pay a little more to go to Target or Kmart where it's a lot cleaner and the employees are not all walking around looking like zombies or with scowls on their faces. Every time I walk into a Walmart I feel like I'm going to catch some nasty disease. It's a shame that their employees have to suffer like that while Mr. Walton's heirs, the CEOs, and the upper executives and corporate big shots line their pockets with the money obtained through the blood, sweat, and tears of the store workers.

I work for Walmart as a AP host. We have no choice but to preform a receipt check. We have to stand at those doors for 8 to 9 hours everyday. Its a mentally and emotionally draining position. Often times we are mistreated by management or ignored by managment completely and for the majority the rest of our coworkers look down on us because they believe its "easy money" because its not a physical position (exept for standing all day with out any pad to stand on)((our management actually took our ruber cushion pads away)) . My Walmart has a particularly bad theft problem because we are in a bad neighborhood. Our hosts have gotten guns, tazers and knives pulled on us for asking for receipts. But we arent properly compensated for these occurances. A coworker was still penalized for leaving work ealry after a shoplifter threatened him with a gun. I can only speak for my own Walmart, but our hosts honestly do not give a shit what your doing unless we have seen something with our own eyes. We only want to keep our jobs, because if somewhere else was hiring dont you think we would leave these shitty jobs?. My store manager will nitpick at every little thing we are doing wrong instead of helping making the position a little easier. What everyone says is true, you can refuse receipt checks at the door. But if you do please dont do it with attitude, hosts at the door have to listen to that attitude all day as people are annoyed that we are only doing what we are told. We are basically threatend with our jobs and our way of supporting our families if we dont check these reciepts. So the next time you go to walmart amd are asked to show reciepts if you really feel you must refuse to prove a point, dont take it out on us. Take it to management, take it to corporate. Force walmart to stop reciept checks and rethink their security to make it more effective for those actually shoplifting and not the regular customers. If we are annoyed at the door its only because we've heard everyone tell us that our job is illegal all day, everyday we step into that corporate hellhole. We are humans, as much as you hate a receipt check, we have having to preform them and then listen to you complain because everyone says the same thing. "i understand but,........ -"and then you continue to complain. I can only speak for the AP hosts that i work with and the walmart i work in, but for the majority we just want to work with out being demeaned and threatened. The AP host position is the most come and go position of the whole store, yes more than maintenance. Because either we get fed up with dealing with these things and quit or we are lucky and get to transfer to a different position. But at my walmart we are constantly low on hosts so management will use what ever they can to block our transfers. So please, next time take it easy on your hosts, take it straight to corporate and refuse the checks there, and not with the people that have to put up with the mind numbing tourture walmart forces on us.

Since Covid started Walmart prices have skyrocketed. Their shelves can sit near empty for days. I feel like I'm being assaulted by cashiers bc they shove their credit card schpiel down my throat 'till I'm so close to telling them to 'F' the hell off!!! It's a horrible place to shop so I can only imagine how abusive it has to be for employees.

I worked there for 2 years and I almost got robbed at customer service not to mention the schedules 9 days in a row and split shifts. I would have a 9-1 am shift come back to a 7 -11pm shift that's why i quit. Every job has its cons. Not just Walmart.

We have two sexual harassment cases going on in my store. One has been going on for about a month and the other has been going on for several months. Neither of those geezers have been terminated even though one of them harassed an ASM. Walmart is trash and management is trashier.

I had a friend that worked a walmart in PA..she was always comparing how men were paid better...I felt bad for her ..she was a professional baker..and could feel the differences..she quit & went to another supermarket & could not believe the difference in treatment...maybe that's why walmart is so cheap...they cut cost with staff too..

Every job promises growth and advancement but then when you offer up good advice or ideas the manager look down on you and cuts your hours or they put you in awkward predicaments or things you can’t control

When I worked at Walmart, and applied for the management training program, they responded by having a bullshit associate coaching session. The session was based entirely on what some other associate said I said. All of it was a made up story, and management did not hear any of it themselves. The problem with that is management had no proof or evidence to properly proceed with a write-up. They did it anyway. They did it so they could have an excuse to use to refuse me a position in their management training program. They were only trying to hold me back, and keep me working as an associate. At Walmart there is no opportunity for advancement or growth into a higher level position. The company, and it's management team suck.

Wal-Mart did get a new CEO so there are some positive changes happening as far as wages and labor. But sometimes management/HR will give u raises/bonuses and then turn around and cut your hours. And this video really changed my perspective because a manager will say you need to work faster for a specific reason but its a different reason every time.

Worked at Walmart for 2.5 years and it was hell. I worked in receiving unloaded trucks and the manager always pushed too much work on us. They wouldn’t hire enough people to get the jobs done quickly the pay was nothing really they payed you just enough so they couldn’t be sued and never gave any raises or holiday pay. And if you were one minute late from break they turned it into a big ordeal because I’m sure they were bored and just wanted to cause drama.
