Excellent video. It goes hand in hand with the typical "The fill in the blank___ band is dead no one is on" But if you call CQ and someone else answers before you know more get into the QSO and now the bands are full of activity. Get on the Air and enjoy your band privileges. 73
I abandoned the hobby in mid 1990s, a bit disillusioned and busy with work and family. I always intended to return when I retired. The return came a few years earlier, early retirement and redundancy in 2020 during lockdown promoted me to rebuild the radio station.
In the last month I picked up my yaesu ft-7r for the first time in ages. Licenced in 1992 dropped out of radio in the late 1990's. Piced it up again in the mid 2000's when i got the vx7r. Stayed for a few years then dropped again till now. Got the vx7r out a few weeks ago, Found the RX to be dead, the ceramic filters had gone bad. Replaced them and its like new again. Went along to my local club and found there were no young people taking it up anymore. But hey in my late 40's now, I still have a few years to go. I think amateur radio will be dead in the next 10 to 15 years as the young of today are more interested in games and other stuff than any hobby.
i listened to a few in the states i cracked myself laughing , that what i love about it , so on to many other topics , you hear some talking about the election and two tier starmer or rat starmer and many other names he is called . Me i am glad to got back into it ,putting more investment into the antennas and hoops that i have bought . I also have a contact who will sell me radios at a very good price a lot cheaper . I also want to build a club for the area so i am putting a lot of time and investment into it.
I got my licence over 30 years ago Haven't been on for about 10 years Amateur radio is full of old men At least my club is Nobody under 30 I hate digital Especially FT8 which is just Call sign collecting, Too many competitions on HF as well Call sign collection again. Very very little activity on vhf or uhf Especially repeaters The only real activity is one Clubnet on the repeater once a week Usually about three people If you are lucky. The only thing amateurs always talk about bloody radio. That's why I much prefer CB to be honest Still not much activity but much Much more interesting people then all the old duffers on amateur radio. To be honest I think amateur radio will be dead in about 10 years After all the present generation are dead no youngsters coming along at all. Hardly surprising with all the mobiles, all the social media. no youngster is going to take a test or tests And spend thousands of pounds, When they can just get a mobile for £100, Amateur raido has had its day
I understand your points and they are valid but I also see youth getting into the hobby albeit few and far between and they typically get a UV5R or now a Quansheng and get on a repeater and no one answers them and they move on. I always carry my HT or have the radio on in backdrop in the shack to pick up those calls and have that QSO with the new ham. And as for FT8 yes it's not super exciting for me either but let's face it, youth are into computers and if it brings them into the hobby any mode is a good mode. And finally this topic is the reason I began making videos on my channel, albeit not on such a stage as Andreas but I try to showcase ham radio on social media and hopefully youth will catch some of it and my analytics show some under 30 are watching. Sorry for the long answer this is a topic I also believe in and props to Andreas for making the video. 73

Yes agree
Well done mate, keep the videos coming. I'm a newly licenced amateur (M7, 8weeks) so it's very useful knowledge you're passing on. Thanks Sam
Thanks, will do!73

Nothing wrong with boasting here and there and as long as it is not all the time.
Lol yes
im trying cb for the first time. I am going to try a wire inverted v dipole in the attic. will it work do you think?
It will' not the best ' bit it will work for sure
It has worked for me although I'm very fortunate and have many people on the band within 3miles
Everything will work a bit i find longer the wire the better results.
Okay let’s chat about some recipes … mousaka for starters 😂😂 73s VK3EAN Erwin

I disagree
Sounds like you made the hobby boring and unsuitable. Try broadening your horizons.
Thanks for your honesty .
