I had a 1996 red and white one. Was the best bike I've ever had until I got a Honda VFR800 last year, which is even better than the Cat. Wish they still made them though.
The Fazer engine ISNT exactly the same. The T-Cat is in a higher state of tune. I hate that they don't bother to do the research to get the facts right, before imparting their wisdom .. The T-Cat has a claimed 100bhp and a slippery fairing. Its a good 15 mph faster on top end (giving it a genuine 150mph top speed-with speedo reading 160 ..). I've owned two T-Cats and also ridden Fazers. Believe me there is quite a difference! I've had blades, GSXR1000's, a ZX9R (and many more) and yet I have a real soft spot for Thundercats. Both the examples I owned got under my skin (I even named them :0) they are great all round bikes and in my opinion, a very special motorcycle.
you are right. but it still is basically the same engine. like the 2jz-ge and the 2jz-gte (and they got 100kw difference). you could easily tune a fazer engine to the point where it is absolutely the same engine as the t-cat engine. i got a fazer and i want a t-cat in addition. Both great bikes

Yes they are good, but not that good. Didn't like all the steel, swingarm etc. The downdraught carbs and ramair explain the extra go at the top end.. Id take a Fazer over the cat any day of the week..
I just recently bought a 98 Thundercat with 19k miles a couple days ago and first thing I noticed about the bike was just how comfortable it is
02/2019 and i still riding the Yamaha Thundercat 2004 one of the best bikes comfortable and enough power to take you anywhere
rode it for two seasons and it is one of the best bikes I've ever ridden
its a great bike to ride on

The Thundercat is the most underrated bike.
I had one in early 2000’s, i could out run the r6 and cbr600f4 in an 1/8th mile. Pretty sure in 1/4mile they would just pull away
