I always loved Roxette. Marie Fredriksson also has great songs in swedish. I visited the castle in Bornholm 3 years ago because of this song. 😍😍 RIP Marie, you'll always be in our hearts.
The beautiful setting of the stage in the castle in this concert is one of the best live performances in history in my opinion, just wish so wished i was there to witness this amazing event

He wrote most of the songs. he has a real talent for writing catchy tunes. This was written for a friend of his facing a break-up decision. Marie wrote some of the songs but her music was darker. She was more known for her solo career in Sweden and has a bunch of Swedish language albums. When she was undergoing her first cancer treatment she recorded her first and only English language album. This despite the fact that the tumour and treatment took away her ability to read or write. Released in 2004 if covers some pretty sad ground with what it feels like to go from completely healthy to being told you are dying overnight. She was supposed to have only 12 months at diagnosis but lived another 17 years and released more albums and even went back on tour with Roxette for a number of years. Legendary toughness.
December 9, 2019, so a little over 3 years ago. Neil Peart, like her died of brain cancer, a month and two days later, so a sad winter, closely followed by the unfolding Covid-19 epidemic. Sparvöga is probably my favorite song of hers, though I never saw the miniseries it was featured in, as I had already left Sweden a couple of years before.

Per Gessle's idea behind Roxette was that he wrote all the songs and Marie Fredriksson sang them. However Marie didn't like some songs to sing herself so Per had to sing them for example The Look.

But Per has said many times that the idea was that, he had to write all the songs and Marie sang them. At that time(1986) Marie was considered one of the best female singer and he was considered one of the best songwriter in Sweden. Marie couldn't write songs in English as quickly as Per did and they wanted to get into the international music market, specifically the German market. However everything changed when a North American student bought The Look Sharp album in Sweden, and the rest of the story is already well known...
Well, the male vocalist wrote the song, so I guess he's pretty happy. At least I would be pretty happy with her performance, it's very strong and very emotional. ;)
Believe me, the male vocalist (Per) isn't upset about it in any way, as he's the one who wrote the song (as well as Roxette's other songs). In fact, him singing wasn't originally planned to be a thing. His idea when he started Roxette was for Marie to be the voice for his songs.
Fun fact: the backup singer is the lead singer from another swedish world famous group: Ace of Base. Jenny Berggren is her name, very talented and a wonderful person.

I've loved Roxette since 1989. Marie's voice was exquisite! It was a sad loss when she passed.

Damn I miss the 80s. I remember them playing this at our High school dances. Nobody was sitting. everyone was dancing to this song. Great memories
