As a say in another reply below: I solved this completely with my Logitech M720 by putting the receiver on a USB extension cable about a metre away. Perfect since I did this.
I got the MX Master 3 and an M1 Mac Mini and don’t have these issues. I’m assuming this has been corrected already. I don’t have any connection issues in any way anymore. Very comfortable mouse and very good performance now. I suggest everyone gives it a try again
There are umpteen unboxing videos and reviews on this product. I haven't seen anybody mention connectivity issues. You saved me time and money. Thanks!
this video should have (if you have a Mac) added to the title. I'm using an MX Master 3 on a PC and its been superb. Battery is brilliant, it will track on everything from glass to carpet and the magnetic scroll wheel is simply genius. But do agree that the thumb wheel is a bit high.
Noted! *edit* - changed the title for you 👍 As I said the feature set is unarguably brilliant, the scroll wheel is incredible, and the functions are amazing… it’s just a shame that myself (and apparently a significant number of owners) have many issues!
@@StusReviewsUK VERY impressed that you've changed the title! :) I hope your Mac experience improves with updates. Whilst I'm here, I also use the Logitech MX Keys keyboard and find that an absolute pleasure to use too....although I know that keyboards are VERY personal. Keep up the great videos.
I have MX Master 3 for Mac. I used it on my old iMac and it was great. Now I have the MAc Studio and it's a nightmare. The biggest issue is that the scroll wheel often stops working. Sometimes every day or a few times per day. Sometimes it works for a whole week. Then suddenly it stops. Total pain. I would scroll to the bottom of the comments to see if anyone else has these problems, but of course the scroll wheel has stopped working....
same issue on M1 iMac, it's pretty often where the scroll wheel will suddenly stop working in an app window. One solution is to switch apps and switch back again, but it feels ridiculous having to do this. The fact that this has been an issue for so long is making me consider just returning the thing and going with a Magic Mouse with Bettertouchtool support...
Love this ultra detailed user review. I have just bought the mouse. And have been experiencing the lag. Honestly the best mouse I’ve ever used so fas is their cheapest lightspeed mouse, the G305. That spoiled me on reliability and feel. I saw a solution where you use a usb extension and make the receiver visible in line of sight to the mouse. So far the stutters have disappeared, hopefully it lasts.
MX Master 3 with a M1 Mac Mini and no issues at all. I moved the receiver dongle away from the Mac using a USB extension cable and have no interference or jitter issues. Most issues I hear are when people use the receiver directly into a Mac USB port and I did see evidence of this myself before using a extension cable. Bluetooth connection was rotten so the unifying receiver is better.
The Bluetooth issues are also prevalent on the Intel Mac Mini. Apple has known about it since 2018 and done nothing. The root of the issue is that the BT transceiver is located very close to the USB ports. USB (especially high-speed / high-traffic usage) interferes with the admittedly weak BT. I have this issue on my 2018 Intel Mac Mini. The main help is to not use the USB ports on the Mac Mini, but to run a USB hub with nice shielded cables off of a Thunderbolt port. I still get occasional issues when doing large amounts of data access on USB attached storage devices. I'm currently using the Apple Magic Mouse (with 3rd party rubber bumpers to save my hands), but looking to move from it. I had an old Logitech Master from about 2011-2012 that I loved, but it has gone kaput. It had a tilting scroll wheel that I absolutely loved. Now they've gone to the thumb wheel which I suspect I will hate. I actually like the digitizer on the Magic Mouse for this. I don't know...I feel kind of stuck seeking my ideal mouse.
finally someone who actually records and points out issues I've been having ever since I got this God Forsaken Mouse lol! I honestly just end up using my trackpad on the mac and a g502 hero on my PC because I can't use the MX master 3s on anything without getting that jitter on my mac or pc with the bolt receiver as well.
I just got my Keychron M6 and if you want smth similar to MX Master 3, this is the alternative for you, with half the price too EDIT: the bluetooth cursor jitter/jumpiness doesn’t exist on M6 and I’m using it with my M3 Pro Macbook. It also comes with USB C dongle, USB A dongle, and a wire for both charging and wired connection. The material feels cheap ofc (for half the price of MX master 3) but the quality speaks for itself
BUYER BEWARE - If you have an M1 Mac, DO NOT BUY this mouse (March 2022). I never comment on RUclips, but just like the uploader I feel so strongly about the issues with the MX Master 3 on M1 Mac that I have to say something. I work in IT and believe me when I say this has been the most frustrating peripheral and software experience I've ever had. It's utterly infuriating that a mouse that is marketed specifically for a Mac, and that is so expensive, is so broken and unsupported. This isn't something that can be fixed on our end, it's something that Logitech must recognise and provide a fix for in both Firmware and Software (assuming it's not a hardware incompatibility). Logitech has not provided any meaningful support or fix in the last 15 months, I'll leave it up to you to decide if you think that's going to change. I've returned my mouse and would advise anyone considering purchasing it to look elsewhere until Logitech brings out a new model.
M1 Macbook Air, MX Master 3 user here. If you are a mac user unistall logitech software and get SteerMouse. I've had similar issues, most annoying was intermittent horizontal scrolling. Absolutely random on and off, 2 seconds here, 5 seconds there and because horizontal scroll was one of the main reasons I went for mx master 3, I started to look for the solution. Logitech support is a joke. Once I uninstalled all logitech software I realised that all the issues disapeared so it's not hardware incompatibility. Of course after uninstalling logitech software I couldn't customize buttons and scrolls the way I like, but then I've found SteerMouse. Way more ways to customize scrolls and buttons and no issues anymore.
This one 👉 geni.us/LogiMXmaster3 There still nothing that comes close to functionality, despite the issues. I’m hoping that with the 4 they add wired use… would literally solve everything.
MX Master 3 user here, you're right about the options beta - it's broken. I'm using the traditional green logitech options on the Monterey beta (intel). Once I put the 2.4ghz receiver on a usb extension cable away from the back of the computer and other cables / interference it was grand. I have a friend using an m1 mac mini and I've him set up the same way, zero issues once 2.4 interference is ruled out.
@@StusReviewsUK that beta is shocking. I had to erase and install Mac OS to get rid of it completely. Good luck, oh and congrats on escaping the fruit shop!
Gaming mice have spoiled me. I bought this mouse for work but the latency/precision was killing me. Not having 1000hz polling rate makes everything feel sooooooo sluggish and imprecise.
Exactly I had been using G402 to do all my design work and I thought I was upgrading by purchasing MX master 3 but then I had to sell it and get Razer orochi because it was the only wireless gaming mouse with high sensitivity and 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth connectivity.
I have both mouses and here is my opinion (I use them on Macbook Pro i9 chip, mostly with unifying receiver, but sometimes with bluetooth): 1) MX master 3S came with a new unifying receiver, the new one, it was in the box. 2) 3S is not compatible with older receiver (and the same for Craft keyboards - if you have a combo 3S + Craft, you need to use 2 receivers, or just bluetooth). 3) The same for the software - Options+ is not compatible with either 2S or Craft keyboard (you need 2 versions of the software if you have a combo) 4) Thumb wheel on both mouses is something I never liked to use, it's not precise enough / clicky to be usable comfortably in my opinion (for example when scrolling timeline on Premiere Pro) 5) Ergonomics of 2 extra buttons close to the thumbwheel (usually Back and Next) are much better on 3S. On 2S they are so close together that are hard to press (especially the upper one is difficult to press) 6) Scroll wheel on both mouses is in a very similar position, I felt it natural to scroll on both mouses, great to use on both mouses 7) Side button (below the thumb) is easier to press on 2S. 3S has a smaller clickable area for this button under your thumb. But 2S had a problem with rubber around it (after couple of months it gets deformated and stuck because there is a plastic next to it, with not too much free space - if if rubber gets deformated with time, then you cannot freely press the button - seems to be fixed in 3S, but time will tell) 8) 2S has a problem with screws, they used a very thin plastic inside for screws, and it basically just crumbles. After a year of 2 of using, you start hearing noises of something in your mouse, you open it and you see small bits of plastic from around screws everywhere. It gets worse in time (possibly planned aging of the product - so you have to replace it) 9) I always had problems with Options software on MacOS. Usually it was not loading my custom buttons/presets configuration when starting the system. Doesn't seem to be an issue with new Options software. 10) I used 2S for 4 years of daily using and it was never broken (except broken screw plastics), always working. 11) Overall I'm happy after the upgrade, and I would not choose 2S again due to (in my opinion) improved ergonomics and software.
I use the Magic Mouse 2 with iMac, do have an mx master 2s aswell but I like the swiping between pages/tabs etc that the Magic Mouse allows you to do on macOS . Maybe not very comfy to use but I like the functionality of it
I am pretty much in the same situation . I own a macbook air m1 and so far i tried the logitech mx master 3 , orochi v2 , magic mouse 3 , microsoft bluetooth mouse and the logitech g203. I have tried bluetooth and the 2.4ghz dongle and yea...the dongle is a little better but is not smooth all the time. Every single one of them work ...but not reliable. Not like they work in windows. Pls do a follow up video if u find new alternatives and thank you for your hard work !
With the USB receiver, the MX Master 3 worked flawlessly for me. I can't say the same for MX Master 3s, though. They've introduced this new "Logi Bolt" receiver, and the experience is lacking so far. I think there are no issues with tracking, but the Bolt software on MACOS is half-baked and doesn't allow changing the DPI.. Or anything, for that matter. "Logitech Options" is quite solid, though.
@@aditya3n Right now i use a razer cobra pro with my macbook pro. I use it with its included dongle and it feels almost as good as it is on windows. I use a few helping programs on mac like mac mouse fix and linear mouse but i got it to a point where the mouse feels as good on mac as it is on windows. I am happy with how it feels now .
All these points are valid. My only issue with this video is that you should make it more clear when it was posted as RUclips says it was posted a year ago which not accurate. Today is November of 2023 and based off what I saw in this video I am guessing it is from 2021. Which by now all the connection issues have been addressed. Ergonomics are personal and I find the MX3 very comfortable, in fact more than my old MX1. Also, I have had mine for a while with no connection issues on an Apple M chipped Mac.
I had to work so hard to find a video like this cos I didn't believe it was just me having this problem. Had to type in the phrase 'problem with mx3 precision' and hardly got any auto-completing lol. Thanks for this video Stu... will try it out with the receiver and hope for the best
Using the M720. The thumb click for mission control is awesome. Really handy for all the windows I constantly need to switch through. I also have the mx master 2S but I prefer the M720's thumb click. Great review!
There is a bug in my M1 Pro with my Mx Master 3s. When the computer sleeps, the mouse becomes laggy. I have to restart the bluetooth module everytime throught terminal. You can restart the Bluetooth module by typing "sudo pkill bluetoothd". It worked for me.
After lot of grief I found that in my case the jitter issue was not related to the software, it was the distance between the unifying receiver and the mouse. Seriously, put it about 6 inches away and it won’t do it ever again. I had to use a usb extension cable.
I use the MX Master 3 S (the white one) with my mac mini m2 and I have absolutely no issue. Maybe they fixed it, keeping in mind that this video is 1 year old. Anyway, for anyone wondering, the 3S paired with m2 chip works great so far. I used a razer deathadder essentials because it fit perfectly in my hand and the scroll wheel broke. I bought another one and the scroll wheel broke again...so I got this one 3 months ago. If the scroll wheel breaks, it's me :))
14:10 I came here for an answer and left with the same problem.. if you worked at apple for 10 years, I give up lol I've used the Logitech MX Masters - bluetooth and wirelessly with dongles. Lag / stutters. I use a PC for gaming also which lets me be a bit picky on mouse latency I have a 14 inch Macbook Pro M1 Max (had M1 also) and the only mouse that has worked without lag has been the magic mouse or trackpad - but the ergonomics of the magic mouse just isn't it.. 9:38 "it's a great example of where obsessing about a products style has had a detrimental effect to the actual funcitionality and usage of the product"
I use the Mx master 3 with the dongle on windows laptop for work. It works flawlessly. When I plug that dongle on my MacBook Pro M1, connected to external display, it lags and jumps over the screen. Surprisingly it’s a bit better via Bluetooth. But even my hackintosh is more stable. I can’t live without that mouse - I have the silver version which I Love. But I agree with you, with such a big revenue income they should come with a solution. I read that some people had a better chance using an USB extender to connect the dongle, specially for the Mac mini. Maybe worth a try :)
I was very tempted to buy the Logi MX Master Mouse today, I bought The Magic Mouse 2 yesterday, but took it back today. Currently using a Logitech B100 wired mouse.
Using the MX Master 3S on a few PCs. It has spoiled me and I can't go back. The main issue for me now is the bloatware. Why does a mouse need AI ? I moved the Bolt receiver to a different location and seems like it may have helped with the stuttering. The MX Mechanical keyboards are in storage since they have aggravating quirks as well (They miss the first keystroke on wake, even when plugged in). The batteries in the mice do not last very long; I'm replacing them using Ifixit kits.
I had the same issue with my series 1 and it had the same lag on my Intel Mac, it’s not an M1 issue it’s a Logitech issue . Also had lag issues on various windows laptops, Logitech support was as usual useless, for the price I’d expect a product that works. I feel many RUclipsrs don’t use the products they review and yes they do get caught up in MX fever
thank you. you have chaned my mind. i planned to buy mx 3 for mini mac 2 but i changed my mind and i will buy apple magic mouse even it is small and may hurt my hand but atleast it still fully compatible with mac
Finally I found a video that kinda explains all the struggle I'm going through. I have an Macbook 2014 and an MX Master 2S. They work perfectly together. However, recently I bought an M1 Mac mini, and the problems started. The mouse simply disconnects for no apparent reason when using BT. And for over an week now it doesn't even connect to the computer. The only "solution" was to use the unifying receiver. That is so frustrating.
Just bought Master 3 some days ago and after dealing for a few days with the jitter issue driving me crazy, the Logi options software and even the -not that ergonomic- physics (and its weight, it is heavy af), I returned it today. Yeah, when it comes to normal working status of the mouse, you even have to feel it comfortable to work for hours and hours. So it kinda subjective depending on the scenario. Sadly, I'm one of those who saw a lot of reviews only talking about the magic features, and get hyped with all those good looking workstations out there on insta, lol. For me, a simpler G603, also from logi, works 10 times better.
Thank you! I had ordered the MX3 based on all the gushing RUclips reviews but my order was canceled. So I went onto Amazon to order it from there only to see all the terrible reviews contradicting all the raving RUclipsrs so I I found you when I searched to see if anyone on RUclips is actually being honest but this mouse.
Great review. I have also spent hours in trying to get my Logitech mice MX master 1 and 3 to work with my MacBook Pro 16 inch with the new processor. Now I use the external trackpad and is planning to buy the magic mouse too although the ergonomics are bad - but it works.
I do have a logitech MX master 2. But i always revert to my Apple Magic mice. It just works better. It's nice for scrolling, (especially sideways on the internet.) Or on the time line in Logic Pro X & Final Cut Pro X. So the logitech MX master 2 lays here in one of my drawers as a back up for when my AMM battery is low and i need to charge it. Then i will usually take out the MXM 2 or i just take my Apple Magic trackpad 2. So i'm still in search of a good mice. But also for a good keyboard that works nicely on my Mac. I've been looking to the Keychron keyboard's (with numpad) but i've recently heard their mice's are pretty good as well. So i'm going to look a bit more into that. I personally do like gaming keyboard's as well. Especially the Corsair/Logitech915 & the SteelSeries Apex Pro Keyboards really appeal to me. But i know that the compatibility with a Mac isn't good with those gaming keyboards as they are made for Windows. I do think my only option is either the Keychron or go with a Logitech MX Keys. I would like to try out a mechanical keyboard. Preferably "half height." I'm not sure which switch i'm going for. Though i do think it will either be a red or brown one. I don't have any other experience with this. But those 2 switches looks most interesting to me.
Me too. I had a terrible adventure with mx3 mouse. Now I use a Magic Mouse 2. Just because it is sexy on my desktop and works. But I am thinking about switching back to Windows. I need a good mouse.
I’m using a Magic Mouse 1 (in macOS) and a Logitech Pebble (in Bootcamp). The Magic Mouse works absolutely fine for me, only issue is the 1st Gen will turn off if give it a bump because the batteries will get dislodged. The Pebble is there mainly because Windows is hostile to the Magic Mouse (and the Magic Trackpad), and I like lower mice. The Pebble being a quiet mouse also pleases me. However it is unreliable in MacOS when connected with Bluetooth, it’s more reliable when in Windows but sometimes it has mis-clicks, when using the dongle it’s all fine. I’ll probably get a Magic Mouse 2 because I’m tired with that battery dislodging thing. I’m okay with how it charges. MacOS will inform the user when the battery is low, and the remaining juice can easily last a day or even more, just remember to charge it at night and it’ll be fine.
I've been living and getting by with my battery operated 2009 magic mouse. Totally get the cramp thing as the profile is too low and flat, I enjoy the smoothness when you swipe between windows and how it glides. My main issue with most (mice?) is that mine has to sit at arm's length away, to the right side of the desk because my midi keyboard is front and centre. That means that quite often my mouse and mat slip off the cliff edge because I'm focusing on the screen instead of my mouse positioning. Not really a fault of that kind of mouse, but with so many people using computers for productivity other than just office tasks these days, the traditional mouse can get in the way of hardware. I'm looking for other control solutions that don't involve needing to physically move the mouse around. I think the roller ball, or track pad styles might be my only options. I think the roller ball would be more ergonomic on the hand, but it's such an old and overly chunky design and I'm not sure that running my thumb constantly over a big ball is my thing
I mean you could try something *like* this; thepihut.com/products/leap-motion-controller-with-sdk?variant=27739743889¤cy=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAiAgvKQBhBbEiwAaPQw3OVnYNWB_jHGxh0iRgIYN8QBtQWa7peMe2Y_j2rsOt5PnXv0Lfg6_xoCA78QAvD_BwE Not sure if thatll work for mouse pointer, but im sure i've seen someone somewhere use one to control their mouse pointer! (dont quote me)!
Thanks Stu, I hope you're well. Love the concept. I'm going to see if I can find some more info to see if it is easily configurable to go from hand gestures down to higher degree of precision. Jamiroquai's Matt Johnson was recently demo'ing something in development that is along similar lines, but it was designed to be more music production studio specific and was defo more of a hand gesture designed software. It all looks great. I'm just looking for something that doesn't involve sliding a mouse across an area that I don't have, that is precise enough to navigate Mac system folders and zero'ing in on small virtual knobs and sliders whilst being ergonomic. Thanks to you I have a few options to consider! TY. 👍
My wife uses the 1 while I use the 3. They are both excellent, never an issue and I love that you can with the push of a button select the connection as I do use two computers sometimes and it works great. Have to say though that my wife uses windows while I use Linux. My previous mouse was the original mx580 which also worked great for 15 or so years
@@viktorg8346 no experience with the 2s, but no, I haven't noticed any lag. You might be able to use cable though because you can connect it to the usb-c port
Thanks for this video. I'm using a Magic Mouse and it's an absolute pain to switch it from my work MacBook to my m1 Mac mini. (I have to go through accessibility using key-mouse) I was considering getting the MX 3 for its "seamless switching" between 3 different devices, no more!
I have had the 1 for years, working fine. Recently after a couple of months with my new Mac Studio selection and other things became quite erratic. Bought the MX3 for Mac in order to solve this but could not even establish contact with Bluetooth. Saw your post and decided to return it immediately. Looking for a good alternative now
The 2s has been working completely fine for me on an M1 max 16in (knock on wood). Certainly always looking for a good mouse! Always glad to have options.
Еrgonomics and durability are very important to me. I had a wired Open mouse with the Logitech logo, which worked for 20+ years. And it would have worked longer if I hadn’t broken the wire. During all this time, no double-click problems appeared. Now, while I'm looking for a mouse, I use the cheap Genius for $4. I was thinking about taking the Logitech G102, but after looking at the reviews I saw that many were complaining about the double click. I can't decide between wired and wireless. On the one hand, with a wired one there is less hassle, but the plus of wireless is comfort. a Also connect to several computers and a smartphone. I edit a lot of videos, so I need a mouse with a scroll button that can be used to click right and left, thereby moving the CTI by 1 frame. I looked through a lot of mice until I found one that combined all my requirements.
Hey Stu! Thanks for the honest review. Unfortunately I saw this video too late. I got myself the MX 3S for Mac, but I'll try to return it. Do you have any suggestion for another bluetooth mouse I could try out?
I used the Mx master 3 on a pc and it work flawlessly for three months, one day the scroll wheel just doesn't work , more like extremely lagging , since then change into a razer viper mini, which is not wireless but worked perfectly !(about two years).
I found a solution to the Logitech mouse issue with the Mac Studio... if you use a USB-C to lightning converter to connect your mouse's USB receiver to then there are no issues. If you connect it to the USB C port, there's all kinds of skipping, lag, it's terrible... there is no disruption when you connect the receiver to the adaptor in the lightning port. 🐁
Mine is going back, scroll only works on PC, no matter what 'tips' or settings and 'answers' to the problem I try, it just doesn't work. Terrible. Macbook Pro 2021 M1 chip.
I use the MX master 3 with my work Windows laptop, my iPad Pro and my M1 MB Pro and I dont have these issues, maybe I'm just lucky? I do wish that both the mouse and keyboard would change together when I press the keys on the keyboard instead of having to pick the mouse up to change channel, but apart from that its been flawless for me... Sorry I can't be of any help but I figure a comment helps the RUclips algorithm...
I am using the Dell MS819 Mouse with Finger Print Reader. Does all I need and saves so much time... in logging into the computer :) Give me a wired mouse any time!
So which mouse would you recommend? I’m experiencing all the issues you mentioning lol. I was tryna get the master 3s but I think I’m done with logintech.
I'm at the same crossroads, I have had the Logitech MX Vertical mouse for over a year, I like it but I have the same problems on my Macbook pro M1, they have been partially solved with the unifier, it's not perfect at all, super annoying because it's an expensive mouse. Today the wheel has stopped working, I've tried to repair it and nothing worked!! As a graphics designer, I need an ergonomic mouse, so I was thinking to opt for the MX Master, but I don't want to have the same problems, especially if it doesn't even come with unifying. I hope we find some other similar mouse that is not Logitech, I really need it!! Thank you for the informative video, subscribing
@@StusReviewsUK sorry, I edited my comment before seeing this one lol. I’m not upset _and_ I don’t agree, as I’ve never had any of these issues. The only issue I’ve had is every so often the scrolling wheels stop working until I turn it off and back on. That happens with Mac or Windows, no matter what computer I connect it to. But I’ve had it for many years, so I think it might just be coming to the end of its life.
Really! Interesting! You’re lucky then! Keep doing what you’re doing, because it’s obviously working👌👌. As for the scrolling issue, not something I’ve come across yet!
Corsair mice for me have been the solution. The build quality is not as good, but you get a great sensor with all three options, wired, dongle, and Bluetooth. I wish more mice actually supported that. And I'd wouldn't even think of using a master if it didn't have that side scroll wheel.
I just recently picked up an MX Amazon edition (so presumably from what you’ve said it’s the MX 1) to use with my Mac mini M1 and apart from it forgetting the buttons I’d set up (which a restart sorted out) I’ve not had any issues.
I use the wired Logitech MX 518 and G400 on the Mac Studio with Sonoma 14.1.1. Both mice actually worked well until Ventura. With the last Sonoma update, however, the problems started. When moving objects on the desktop, they keep getting stuck. They can be moved, but these delays are annoying. When I work with Adobe programs, there are display problems with the cursor and some tools. When work palettes are moved, they drag slowly as if on a rubber band. This was not the case before Sonoma. However, if I use the Magic Mouse, which is connected to the Mac via Bluetooth, I don't have these problems. Very strange. But I think the Magic Mouse is a real ergonomic disaster. It doesn't matter whether I use the two Logitech mice with the Logitech software or with the universal driver USB Overdrive - the problems occur in both cases. I already suspected that Apple might be deliberately preventing the use of third-party mice. But that is certainly wrong.
I’m still using my Logitech M275, it’s pretty old but I just absolutely love how it feels, the scroll wheel is starting to fail tho so i bought a master mx 3s, i’m still keeping the old one tho. It literally has a smooth spot from my finger on my left mouse button xD
I use the MX Master 3 with PC. Only complaint with it, as you pointed out, is its pretty high and ended up getting a wrist glide to go with it otherwise the ergonomics are crap. Having said that, it has worked well for me. Not sure it was worth the price, but its held up well.
I use the MX Master (Amazon version) on Mac M1 mini. No stuttering on Bluetooth or Unified. I did have to have one replaced as the gesture button kept getting physically stuck. No problems with jitter on either though, 9-5, Mon-Fri. I think yours are faulty.
That’s the exact version I bought as well… and nothing but problems! I’m pretty sure it’s not broken, because it’s both of mine and many many other peoples apparently; www.reddit.com/search?q=R%2Fmac%20mx%20master%20jitter But it makes me wonder… why do some work and some don’t? 👀
So, this is a bit of a long shot, but my Mac mini is mounted to the underside of my desk, upside-down in a custom holder, basically right below where my mouse is on the other side of the desk. I wonder if that means it’s in just the right orientation for there to be no metal between the mini and the mouse?? Just a thought.
Do you notice when usingin M1 Mac, it takes a few seconds for the logitech mouse to "talk" to the logitech driver to adjust the cursor speed? I have set tracking suitable to my liking, but every time when login the Mac, it takes a few seconds to re-adjust to the right tracking speed. There are two setting for the track speed, one in the Mac OS setting and another in the logitech options app. Do you experience this and what can be the fixed? Connecting via the dongle seems reduce the time for the mouse to adjust the speed to where I set.
Thanks a lot for this review, I don't have a mac m1 just an old macbook. If looking for a mouse to use in between windows PC for work and the laptop for studies. Will this suffice because I'm conscious of wrist pain etc
I do wonder how the new 3S is compared to the old unifying dongle. I wouldn't expect it to work much better, though I hear if you don't have a unifying receiver plugged in its slightly better. Still though all this could've been solved if they just allowed you to plug it in.
Did the MX Master series address the stutter when you are scrolling especially with inertia scrolling? to me this is the biggest issue why I couldn't get into the MX mice.
I use the Apple Magic Mouse and it’s great apart from several things. No quick change to another device. What often drives me mad is that I often accidentally swipe sideways resulting in a previous page or previous video. I don’t like that, hence landing here while researching an alternative.
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I have been in a love/hate relationship with the MX Master mice since version 1 also. I currently have the MX Master 2S and have been delaying replacing it. I have a Mac Mini M1 and share your frustrations with it's bluetooth issues. I finally seem to have resolved my issues with the stuttering by connecting only through the 2.4mhz dongle. I also believe the stuttering is caused by interference by nearby wireless signals, so have re-positioned everything until the issue went away. My dream mouse would be an MX Master version 1 with the Logitech Lightspeed connection. Hopefully someday it will happen.
Quite a few people are mentioning that fixed the issues… unfortunately mine is persisting! I’m wondering if it’s wireless interference or something like that!
@@StusReviewsUK The only issue i ever had with the Master series of mice was when the dongle thing was in the back of the PC. It stuttered a bit here and there etc. I got a usb extension cable and ran it with the dongle in the end so it was behind the desk but in line with where the mouse is. Never had that issue since. Might be worth a try at least.
@Stu‘s Reviews I wonder if the new MX Master 3 for Business (with new „logi bolt“ wireless connector) is solving your issues? Maybe, Logitech can provide you with a sample?
Logitech Support has a YT video saying that Logi Bolt has max. latency in noisy environments in macOS of 4ms, compared to 57ms to 610ms with other, unnamed products.
I really prefer lightweight ambidextroux mice. I love the logi G203/305 mice as well as the G Pro X superlight, what I really F-hate is mice acceleration and in MacOS isn't any way of disabling acceleration without a third party app. Also I found that I prefer to use a trackball (M575) in MacOS. Almost forgot to mention that the newer models (Macbook Air) doesn't come with USB type A for the dongles so you're stuck with BT connection.
I don't use a mouse with my Apple M1 laptop, I have got bad arthritis in my hands, unfortunately. I am thinking about getting an Apple Magic Trackpad, to make my life easier. What do you think, can you think of any cheaper alternatives for myself?
You might find the trackpad just as bad. I found that using one with an imac i would get 'claw hand' quite quickly, and my palm would start to ache... but everyone is different! Fortunately apple have a great 14 day return policy 😉
about 4 years ago I purchased a MX1 mouse - to go with my new Alienware laptop. It was horrible!! returned it back after 1 days use. I waited for the MX2 to come out and having no issues since. Also due to limited USB ports on laptops I wanted to use the BT connectivity. Last year I've switched to a MBP m1 max. The MX2 mouse is still good, connects quick via BT no lag or other issues, also really taking advantage of the device switching when jumping back to my Alienware from time to time. Only downside I have is the scroll wheel on the mouse got damaged I did a repair on it to keep me going, so I currently have no free scroll. Not too bad I can live with it, only when working late at night the scroll clicking noise seems really load. I think next upgrade for me will be the MX4 - if they do release one.
Been using the Corsair Harpoon mouse and really like it. But as a side note I am left handed and this is the closest mouse I like so far. It is close enough to being ambidextrous with having good features I have found to the moment.
So glad to see an honest opinion about it! I too was swayed by the numerous praise by RUclipsrs at the time, but I just never really got on with it. It felt slightly cumbersome to use, and I would get weird wrist aches. Ended up selling it on eBay, and getting a Magic Trackpad instead. Works smoothly, and I just can't do without the multi-touch gestures and speed in my everyday work.

You mentioned being tempted by a ball mouse. Ever tried the Elecom Huge? Its a well built freak of a mouse, perfect for larger hands.
@@madassbadgers yeah that was mentioned! It’s certainly huge!
😂😂😂😂😂 i have an macbook pro M1 pro with the mx master 3. Until now no problems 🙏🙏🙏🙏
As a say in another reply below: I solved this completely with my Logitech M720 by putting the receiver on a USB extension cable about a metre away. Perfect since I did this.
@@BobKummerfeld Mines currently 1ft away on the same work surface as the mouse... still having issues. 😮💨
Stu's review of tech reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson's review of cars. Love it! Cheers.
this let to a subscribe, I love Jeremy Clarkson!
Totally agree!!
i thought this exact same thing too. i think its the pure red hot outrage delivered as calmly as the bbc weather report
Massive Clarkson vibes. Not a bad thing necessarily!
Came here to say the same thing
I got the MX Master 3 and an M1 Mac Mini and don’t have these issues. I’m assuming this has been corrected already. I don’t have any connection issues in any way anymore. Very comfortable mouse and very good performance now. I suggest everyone gives it a try again
Does it flows well with davinci resolve?
I continue having issues, is there a way to solve the problems? In my case is more lag and weird scrolling
16" M4 MAX.... Damn nightmare w/MX Master 3s.
There are umpteen unboxing videos and reviews on this product. I haven't seen anybody mention connectivity issues. You saved me time and money. Thanks!
No problem! 🌞👌
Err... no he didn't! There are NO connectivity issues! Using it as we speak with no issues at all.
this video should have (if you have a Mac) added to the title. I'm using an MX Master 3 on a PC and its been superb. Battery is brilliant, it will track on everything from glass to carpet and the magnetic scroll wheel is simply genius. But do agree that the thumb wheel is a bit high.
Noted! *edit* - changed the title for you 👍
As I said the feature set is unarguably brilliant, the scroll wheel is incredible, and the functions are amazing… it’s just a shame that myself (and apparently a significant number of owners) have many issues!
@@StusReviewsUK VERY impressed that you've changed the title! :) I hope your Mac experience improves with updates. Whilst I'm here, I also use the Logitech MX Keys keyboard and find that an absolute pleasure to use too....although I know that keyboards are VERY personal. Keep up the great videos.
do you have any issues with the scroll whell not working properly? I've seen many people with this issue
Hi :-) So what's the situation now almost 2 years later? Does it work better? Did you find an alternative?
I am surprised no one sue Logitech for false advertising of this mouse.
Thank you for your frank and honest review. Saved me some cash and a whole lot of time!
From when this video was made (10 months ago to now) these issues you don’t see as a problem?
Really? You have a newer version, 3s, and it still has a jitter problem?
Any updated two years later? Is the software still in beta?
I just got my Keychron M6 and if you want smth similar to MX Master 3, this is the alternative for you, with half the price too
EDIT: the bluetooth cursor jitter/jumpiness doesn’t exist on M6 and I’m using it with my M3 Pro Macbook.
What I find most amazing is how people who don’t have these issues seem to not believe the issues exist 👁👄👁
I had the same issue, I still don't know what I need to buy instead of mx3 and magic mouse
Running fine on the last Intel Mac.
Is the latest version of MX Master 3S better?
What mouse are you using today after one year?
This one 👉 geni.us/LogiMXmaster3
There still nothing that comes close to functionality, despite the issues.
I’ve tried moving the sensor really close, but still getting issues. Intermittently for sure, but still there (probably because it’s in beta still)!
I know right… certainly not the most precise 👀
Exactly I had been using G402 to do all my design work and I thought I was upgrading by purchasing MX master 3 but then I had to sell it and get Razer orochi because it was the only wireless gaming mouse with high sensitivity and 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth connectivity.
omg... you made so many good points. I thought i was crazy because everyone raved about this mouse. And i agree with everything you've said.
I have both mouses and here is my opinion (I use them on Macbook Pro i9 chip, mostly with unifying receiver, but sometimes with bluetooth):
1) MX master 3S came with a new unifying receiver, the new one, it was in the box.
2) 3S is not compatible with older receiver (and the same for Craft keyboards - if you have a combo 3S + Craft, you need to use 2 receivers, or just bluetooth).
3) The same for the software - Options+ is not compatible with either 2S or Craft keyboard (you need 2 versions of the software if you have a combo)
4) Thumb wheel on both mouses is something I never liked to use, it's not precise enough / clicky to be usable comfortably in my opinion (for example when scrolling timeline on Premiere Pro)
5) Ergonomics of 2 extra buttons close to the thumbwheel (usually Back and Next) are much better on 3S. On 2S they are so close together that are hard to press (especially the upper one is difficult to press)
6) Scroll wheel on both mouses is in a very similar position, I felt it natural to scroll on both mouses, great to use on both mouses
7) Side button (below the thumb) is easier to press on 2S. 3S has a smaller clickable area for this button under your thumb. But 2S had a problem with rubber around it (after couple of months it gets deformated and stuck because there is a plastic next to it, with not too much free space - if if rubber gets deformated with time, then you cannot freely press the button - seems to be fixed in 3S, but time will tell)
8) 2S has a problem with screws, they used a very thin plastic inside for screws, and it basically just crumbles. After a year of 2 of using, you start hearing noises of something in your mouse, you open it and you see small bits of plastic from around screws everywhere. It gets worse in time (possibly planned aging of the product - so you have to replace it)
9) I always had problems with Options software on MacOS.
I love a good rant (and this was a good rant 🤣)
I’m not sure everyone else likes it 😂
okay and what mouse to buy now?
did u buy any?
I use the Magic Mouse 2 with iMac, do have an mx master 2s aswell but I like the swiping between pages/tabs etc that the Magic Mouse allows you to do on macOS . Maybe not very comfy to use but I like the functionality of it
Use a magic trackpad to the left of your keyboard, and a better mouse in your right hand (assuming ur right hand dominant)
With mx3 its not possible binding?
I'm buying the MX Master 3 and I'm having the same experience. Then I found your video. I wish I could see your video first before I bought my MX3.
"Logitech Options" is quite solid, though.
it's been 2 years now.. wondering what mouse that you ended up using it..
@@c.a.design8390 wow sounds great, thanks!
Just got a Logitech M720 and I'm noticing the lag or something misbehaving.
I must commend this video, love the LIFE you vibe.
Any idea if the new MX Master 3S is supposed to have any of these bugs worked out? Great video btw!
Using the M720. The thumb click for mission control is awesome. Really handy for all the windows I constantly need to switch through. I also have the mx master 2S but I prefer the M720's thumb click. Great review!
That is soooo true! I thought he sounds familiar 😂. Thanks Stu!
Did you get the one for mac or the one with the unifying receiver?
@@oreoakalaperoji8314 The normal one with the USB thingie. I have a windows laptop as well for some programs that don't work on mac.
14:10 I came here for an answer and left with the same problem.. if you worked at apple for 10 years, I give up lol
I've used the Logitech MX Masters - bluetooth and wirelessly with dongles. Lag / stutters.
I use a PC for gaming also which lets me be a bit picky on mouse latency
I have a 14 inch Macbook Pro M1 Max (had M1 also) and the only mouse that has worked without lag has been the magic mouse or trackpad - but the ergonomics of the magic mouse just isn't it..
I might give it a go!
Is there any new update that solves these glitche and lagging problems of the mx master 3s on MacBook m1 computers?
I guess now they have resolved most issues, try the update on logitech software
I was very tempted to buy the Logi MX Master Mouse today, I bought The Magic Mouse 2 yesterday, but took it back today. Currently using a Logitech B100 wired mouse.
Great review, very entertaining and extremely informative. Thank you, Stu!!
For me, a simpler G603, also from logi, works 10 times better.
same here G603 is the best for me Gaming and typical office work plus can handle not 3 but 2 devices, so it is quite nice
I’ve been using an MX Master 3 with my works laptop for months now and it’s been brilliant, amazing battery life.
Yeah the battery life is incredible!
Good points well made Stu. Thank you
I'm using an M1 MBP and Logitech MX Master 3s but I did not encounter any issues in terms of connectivity.
I mean you could try something *like* this; thepihut.com/products/leap-motion-controller-with-sdk?variant=27739743889¤cy=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAiAgvKQBhBbEiwAaPQw3OVnYNWB_jHGxh0iRgIYN8QBtQWa7peMe2Y_j2rsOt5PnXv0Lfg6_xoCA78QAvD_BwE
Not sure if thatll work for mouse pointer, but im sure i've seen someone somewhere use one to control their mouse pointer!
TY. 👍
Thanks, I wondered why I was having problems trying to connect to my Mac Mini, thanks to you, mine is being returned!

Do you have any suggestion for another bluetooth mouse I could try out?
use wire mouse! no other option!
and how to solve on macbook pro M1 max?
Wired for the win!
So which mouse would you recommend? I’m experiencing all the issues you mentioning lol. I was tryna get the master 3s but I think I’m done with logintech.
get a wired mouse issue solved and many more options.
So what do people suggest other than these MX ? My problem is non connection after my MacBook has been put to sleep.
I have a M2 Mac Mini and I’m struggling with the Magic Mouse. It’s awful and I’m in a dilemma as to what to do. Is the 3S improved with the M2 ??
I just bought the M2 Pro and now ordered the 3S! Will see what happens
@@seekfactsnotfiction9056How did it work out?
I’m using an MX Master 1 with my M1 MacBook Air, and I’ve never had any of these issues.
You might be upset with this episode... or perhaps agree with me! I cant wait to find out which it is!
What keyboard do you use?
Keychron k2 v2
Thanks for this REAL review!
I'm finding the mini version (mx anywhere) much better for ergonomics. Got 2 of them, one on my desk and one for the road.
I'm currently using the M2 Mac Studio. Which mouse would be a better choice: the Logitech MX Master 3S or the Magic Mouse?
IMHO, you can't go wrong with the Magic Mouse.
I’m pretty sure it’s not broken, because it’s both of mine and many many other peoples apparently;
www.reddit.com/search?q=R%2Fmac%20mx%20master%20jitter
But it makes me wonder… why do some work and some don’t?
@@Wawacatfloppa that’s definitely a likely reason for it! It’ll certainly help that’s for sure!
Which would you recommend for Macbook air m1 ?magic mouse 2, Mx Master 3 for mac or regular Mx master3 ??
You’d probably be okay I’m that case 👌
I do wonder how the new 3S is compared to the old unifying dongle.
I wouldn't expect it to work much better, though I hear if you don't have a unifying receiver plugged in its slightly better.
Still though all this could've been solved if they just allowed you to plug it in.
It’s out now, only works with bolt dongle 😂
it's terrible
Light speed G502 is 🔥. The G502 and MX master 3 should have a baby. I use a separate knob for left handed sideways scrolling
@@StusReviewsUK I got a usb 2 cable and tacked it to the wall totally away from everything and it more or less completely solved it.
@Stu‘s Reviews
I wonder if the new MX Master 3 for Business (with new „logi bolt“ wireless connector) is solving your issues? Maybe, Logitech can provide you with a sample?
Logitech Support has a YT video saying that Logi Bolt has max. latency in noisy environments in macOS of 4ms, compared to 57ms to 610ms with other, unnamed products.
Finally! I have the same issue with mx master 3s for mac. And i just don't get it, apparently I am not the only person having issue with it.
9:45 - considering the newest iteration of the Magic Mouse was wider... ...It still isn't wide enough.
Been using the Corsair Harpoon mouse and really like it. But as a side note I am left handed and this is the closest mouse I like so far. It is close enough to being ambidextrous with having good features I have found to the moment.
Been using the MX Master Mouse for Mac with a M1 Mac Mini for a long while now and I have not experienced any of the issues that you mention
I'm having the issues he mentioned with my m1 MacBook and mx master 3s.
I'm currently using Logitech M650 and what to upgrade to Mx Master 3s for Mac
So glad to see an honest opinion about it!
I too was swayed by the numerous praise by RUclipsrs at the time, but I just never really got on with it.
It felt slightly cumbersome to use, and I would get weird wrist aches. Ended up selling it on eBay, and getting a Magic Trackpad instead.
Works smoothly, and I just can't do without the multi-touch gestures and speed in my everyday work.
