- Welcome to the 24-player Mario Kart Wii split screen experience! In this video, you'll witness the first-ever 24-player split screen gameplay of Mario Kart Wii, tested using a single controller to control all 24 players on the screen.
As a long-time Mario Kart fan, I had previously created 8-player split screen videos for Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and 12-player split screen videos for Mario Kart Wii, but 24-player split screen was a dream that seemed impossible to achieve. I decided to take on the challenge and, after a lot of trial and error, created this test video where all 24-players use the inputs from a single controller.
Now to find 24 people to put in a room together...
How it feels to chew 5 gum:
I hear nothing but everyone falling in rainbow road 😂
You actually did it 😂 congratz 👌👌
Do one with actually the 24 players try their best to finish the race. Other than that, amazing job.❤❤
That's impressive, ggs
Different problems haha.
I made a 31 players Mario Kart LAN yesterday and was unable to make more than 4 players play at the same time (using dolphin) 😢
I'd be interested to know how you are doing this, this would make my next LAN way better :D
@@TheNorthFisher A 31 player LAN is really impressive too! I’ve figured out the technical side here, but the logistics of organizing a 24 player meetup honestly intimidates me.
@MarioManTV im still willing to donate to help setup 16-24 players at once. I was able to get it working with 12 but on a virtual network. Not sire if that is how you did it?
What are the specifications of the pc running this? This framerate seems nice, so maybe the sound is the "only" issue. Would be cool having this on a big screen at a social event of sorts. Perhaps turning off certain sound effects would help? Then maybe one instance has all the sounds, while the others only have the character sounds? Or if using a big PA system is possible, then you could route the sound from each instance to seperate inputs on the mixer. Then EQ-ing each instance would make the sound cleaner.
Maybe routing the sound through RTX-voice would help?
These are great ideas. Sound has always been a weak point in my split screen setups. I may look into cheat codes to adjust the volume of different sounds. I believe it’s mostly engine noises that are making this video sound so garbled.
This is using an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X and an NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti. My Task Manager had CPU usage above 80% for the majority of the recording.
@@MarioManTV that's a nice build 👌
@@MarioManTV Increasing the audio buffer or using dolphins DSP LLE (recompiler) instead of DSP HLE might help
insane :O a gigantic step up from 12p
24 crazines with one controller xd
On top of having the CTGP beta, are there any special settings being used or does it all work out of the (hypothetical) box?
This is so cool! Nice work ^^
Can you teach me how config a custom server to do this? I already have the Dolphin with CTGP and your patch to a better performance. I would like to do a race with 24 players. Is possbile to do this in a offline race?
I’ve preconfigured a VM that should work with CTGP-R in Dolphin. You’ll have to use cheat codes to disable SSL and turn off room security in the CTGP-R settings. I’m working on a tutorial, but this should help you along.

@@MarioManTV Thanks! I will need install the homebrew on Dolphin to make this?
@@MarioManTV The server is running, but I don't know the DWC login. I've tried quite a few guesses with no success. Can you tell me what it is?
@@masterpayne5982 It’s all in the VM notes. I believe those are stored in the .vmx file.
@@MarioManTV Dang man your the best! I should've checked that 😅
how were you able to get the FPS high using CTGP on dolphin? I always get around 22 fps on high end hardware with default dolphin settings. awesome video btw
I struggled with this myself at first. Following the guide on the Dolphin Blog is a good start, but it's not enough. Some clever folks in the Dolphin Discord figured out that disabling CTGP-R's custom page tables further improves performance with no side effects. I made a patch to fix this automatically, which you can add to your Mario Kart Wii config. Tested to work on RMCE and RMCP.

@@MarioManTV Are the patches it placed in the RMCE.xml file? If not, where can I inject it?
@@masterpayne5982 you can add them to your RMCE.ini user config. Dolphin also has a GUI to paste these in if you right click the game in the list.
Me everytime after the lobotomy 🤣🤦♀️
cool
Can you help me set this up? I have it working with 12 players but not 24. I am only interested in getting it to work locally via LAN or private server. I would be willing to donate for your time.
I have a text and video tutorial in the works, but it’s not finished yet. I’m trying to find the time to get it done.
Hey Mario did you ever get the tutorial done?

how do you have ctgp on dolphin ? any way to get the Lan mod of ctgp to work off usb loader on a wii? i want to get 6 wiis and do a mario kart wii 12 player lan. but i don't have 6 copys of the game and some wiis dont work with disk
No mii character
How can somebody play this with 12 Steam Decks, 12 USB-C hubs, 12 Twin USB Dual Shock Gamepads, 12 Ethernet Cables, and a 24 port Ethernet router?
For 12 player, this is fairly straightforward. Install Dolphin on each Steam Deck, set up and run a matchmaking server VM on another local machine (github.com/SMarioMan/wii-online-server/releases ), find and enable the No-SSL cheat for the game to connect to your server, override the DNS settings of each Steam Deck to go to your custom server, and they should all connect online.
It’s a slight rework of this guide, but for emulator: github.com/barronwaffles/dwc_network_server_emulator/wiki#nintendo-wiiwii-u-configuration
As an alternative, there is a LAN mod that should work without any custom server work: wiki.tockdom.com/wiki/LAN_Multiplayer
I question how
There is no concise answer, but it involves a combination of emulation, a custom server, game patching, and the incredible 24-player Mario Kart Wii mod available in the CTGP-R beta.
