  • Ishinomaki (石巻) is a large port city east of Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture. The city has a number of interesting attractions, and is known for being the hometown of prominent manga artist Ishinomori Shotaro.
During the 2011 Tsunami Ishinomaki suffered the largest losses of life and property of any municipality as the tsunami inundated much of the city's low lying waterfront districts and neighborhoods. From Hiyoriyama Park, located on a hilltop near the city center, visitors can look out over the affected waterfront districts. A memorial park with a lot of green space and a museum was opened in 2021 in the coastal district.

The Ishinomori Manga Museum (石ノ森萬画館, Ishinomori Mangakan, aka Ishinomori Mangattan Museum) is an art museum in Ishinomaki City that is dedicated to the manga artist Ishinomori Shotaro. Ishinomori (1938-1998) was a prolific artist who created several dozen influential manga series including Cyborg 009 and Kamen Rider. His work essentially pioneered the super powered and transforming ranger manga genres, and new adaptations of his series are still produced for TV and turned into movies today. He used to reside in Ishinomaki.
The museum displays a collection of comics, statues and artworks from his numerous manga series. Some of his creations are also displayed in the streets of Ishinomaki City, including several statues depicting characters from his manga series. His artworks furthermore decorate some trains in the Ishinomaki area as well as buildings of "Manga Island", a camping resort on nearby Tashiro Island.
The Manga Museum's modern, egg shaped building is located on an island in the mouth of the Kyukitakamigawa River, where it lay right in the path of the 2011 tsunami. Much of the museum's collection was destroyed in the disaster, but the sturdy building itself survived more or less intact. After time consuming restoration works, the museum was fully reopened in 2013.

this is beautiful, i love it when places like Japan, France and Scandinavia and its people celebrate art in all its forms whether it is manga, bande dessinée or simply Carl barks duck comics subsequently. hopefully someday people where i live will start to appreciate all artforms too .

10:17 I have no idea why they let you stand on Kuuga footprints for regular Kamen Rider. I think they changed the displays a lot after the flooding.

Thanks for the video. Ishinomori first created Kamen Rider, Because of that Tatsunoko used the henshin hero popularity to make Gatchaman (battle of the planets) and inspired by that anime Ishinomori basically ripped it off to make Goranger. if you check here 9:46 and compare them with Gatchaman you can see the team is basically the same. Strong leader, Edgy handsome guy, Pretty woman in pink, big strongman and annoying kid. Goranger became so popular that Ishinomori made a second show called JAKQ and combined with Spiderman's mecha and other Marvel Heroes like Captain America Toei created the first Super Sentai, Battle Fever J. 13 seasons later Zyuranger was made into Power Rangers. Gatchaman is basically the reason they exist. Spiderman gave them their megazords and Captain America is why they have metal mouths. So not big inspiration, literally the creator.

I might have to correct you there Ishinomori found out about Gorenger and JAKQ being the first 2 Super Sentai sometime in the mid 80s and tried to make an agreement but It fell through that's why for so many years Team Battle Fever was considered the first Super Sentai it was only during the middle of the '90s that Gorenger and JAKQ were reinstated into the franchise as the first 2. It was the minority of publications in the '80s that considered Battle Fever J the first series. FOX only chose Zyuranger because Steven Spielberg was directing the movie of Michael Creighton's novel Jurassic Park which sparked interest in dinosaurs and any other year they would have chosen the other than recent shows, and no it wasn't "the other shows were dark in tone" otherwise, they wouldn't be gambling on an American remake of a toku property like they did back with the Bioman adaptation pilots rejection by major American Networks of the time, Fox was a pretty daring network.

It was simply edited for American sensibilities

Talking about the 5 members team system, I think the 1966 Ultraman is the one that started it all. It has all the elements that you are referring to. The big mecha robot being Ultraman himself.
