I find I get into way less trouble if I always press my seams open. The top lays flatter, there is less distortion and bulk at seams. It is also easier to avoid seams "flipping" on the back side as you sew them together. I hate it when the seam flips and is pressed one direction at one end and another direction at the other...makes lumps on the quilt top. I pin seam intersections to ensure they stay where I want them as I sew. Love that pressing stick!

I feel they look better pressed open especially when using a thicker fabric such as fleece.
