+Reb3nga I had a similar experience. In 1989 I had bought a new motorbike and went to the dealer to pick it up. Outside stood a big white motorhome. There where two new bikes outside standing next to eachother; Mine, a full on sports bike and an all white huge Honda Goldwing with all bells and whistles and a little trailer in the same livery. I stood bend over my new pride and joy looking at all the details when I heard a voice saying 'nice bike you have'. Looking up I directly stared in the face of Rutger Hauer. All I could say was 'you too' (he was a youth hero of mine playing in a tv serie Floris in 1969 so it was a bit of a big deal to meet him). Then we shatted a while about our bikes and his big motorhome (which could store the Goldwing btw). Very friendly gentle man. Very nice to have met him.
+Marc Swart Floris was iets voor mijn tijd ;) Soldaat van Oranje was het eerste dat ik van hem zag. Vandaag Blade Runner in de bioscoop gezien, schitterend!

Tesla di Murbox Indeed, Scott is currently the best director around, and has been so for years and years; starting with the excellent, but little known 'The Duellists' .
Paul Verhoeven used him a lot during their Dutch movie making years, though. You should see those films .Excellent body of work, including an extraordinary movie set in the Middle Ages.

@@MrFrussel He actually didn't, he died on 19th of July. The news broke on the 24th after his burial. Wouldn't call it a "fun" coincidence neither. It's tragic.
For me this film almost 40 years old has the most authentic feeling of any futuristic SciFi picture. All the CGI and other tech haven't come close to capturing the same experience. The actors the scenary, the music which is huge just makes it feel as real as it gets. One of the best movies ever made.
Mike T I remember seen it as a kid and the use of Ford was brilliant contradiction to the fluffy Star Wars movies , it should not have worked but it did says a lot about Ford as an actor and how he could transcend been typecast as Solo , Hauer was a revelation in his role , I’m surprised he never popped up in a Tarantino movie .
As someone who grew up alone and unloved by those around me, Roy's words touched my soul in a way no movie ever has before or since. The pain and loss of your entire life experience vanishing unshared and unseen into the void is soul rending. Roy expressed these feelings in a way that instantly resonated with me. It hurt me to my core, and still does today. Roy and I are very much alike, both trapped in a world we don't really understand, filled with thoughts and feelings nobody else seems to want to share or care about, wondering what we did that was so wrong. In the end, we all just want to be seen and loved by someone.
Thank you for your honest and very personal comment. That's the magic of art, it speaks to us of the truths deep inside us that we don't even know how to articulate. BR is my favorite movie, and I can't imagine anyone but Rutger playing Roy. I hope you find someone who does care about your thoughts & feelings & wants to share them with you. Best wishes.
most of the likes of you and me do not understand this world bcz we are taught lies about it and deep inside our souls we know that something is terribly wrong with this world - when you on a mission to find the truth for a half a century long battle and you finally find it you get instant relief and everything now makes sense. I'm 37 and I've just seen this film for the first time in my life. A masterpiece. And the soundtrack from Vagelis was simply orgasmic for the ears. I can't believe I missed this film. Better late than never I guess.
Ah man really? well i guess better late than never :) only downfall is i would say is you wont feel the same nostalgia when i see this movie from my childhood or the feeling when you hear the music, but glad you enjoy it cause it's amazing!!
36. Same here. Always thought it's an old, boring movie. Special effects gotta age horribly by now, right? Wrong. I'm in love with this movie. Another lesson to me to not be afraid to watch something from the past, might find a new favorite thing.
Vincent Wolf exactly.. after watching blade runner I started a classic film marathon and watched numerous classic films I never had the chance to watch... I started from the 50's
Sounds like a very good choice, it is so easy to miss out on truly great movies if one just stays with the current titles. I watched Blade runner when it came out, but of course i didn't learn to appriciate it until maybe 10 years later. Since i was just 5 at the time haha! i have little recollection of that moment but i re-watched it several times later. I have a list of movies that i think movie buffs shouldn't miss out on at any cost. Blade runner is definately amongst the top of the chart. I grew up watching Jason and the argonauts from -63 and The journey to the centre of the earth from -59 it just rolled on from there. If you haven't seen any of those, i really recommend it. There is something about the special effects from the time that makes the movies alot more human. And doesn't distract from the journey or the messages or the plot.
racketman2u So Roy’s response was to crush his Creators head with his bare hands and gouge his eyes out! After he said I want more life, effer! And that scene shocked me!
I always thought of Roy as being a self-aware child who would murder in rage as a result of confusion resulting from a lack of childhood. He killed his "father"in a fit of rage once he realized that even Tyrell could not prolong his life. Roy finally matures and realizes his humanity when he saves Decker from falling.
John Techwriter so true. Such a powerful performance by him in the classic masterpiece Blade Runner. Love the twist that he was the good guy all along and wanted to spare Deckards life to know that he was only a human who didn't have long to live and all he wanted was to live and was forced to be Slave and then hunted down like an animal. I'm guessing he didn't wanna be controlled so he escaped. Deckard had no idea that he was killing slaves. How awful poor Roy. Deckard is used as a bounty hunter to kill slaves as sport for I'm guessing the bad leader couldn't control them.
I am allways amazed how one of the most popular actors of that time, having starred as Han Solo and Indiana jones is being played against a wall, performance wise. And no I am not saying he played his part badly, its just Rutger's performance was so breathtaking...
Bladerunner is a masterpiece that can never be surpassed. It’s magic in a bottle. Music, lighting, special effects (NOT CGI), acting, message, nuance it has everything.

I saw Bladerunner when it first came out. It blew me away then and still blows me away. Rutger was a superb actor and this interview reveals the depth and soul of the man. The flesh may be gone but the iconic image of Rutger as Roy is immortal.
The paradox of being a "killer soldier replicant" in the end demonstrating mercy and compassion for his nemesis as a final act. Shakespear somewhere in there folks.
Well that s precisely the point of thé movie. Show that thé replicants are more human than humans themselves. At thé vert first scène you already see it. Hosen is doing voigt kamp test. You can see Leon has émotions, when Hosen stays cold as a robot, that s the irony.
I re-watch Blade Runner about once a year in a pitch black room by myself, it is the only movie I do this with. Sure - if you really analyze it there are plot holes. But the key to Blade Runner is not to over-analyze but to go with the style, feel and message of the movie. It's sci-fi pulp-fiction but it also reveals something about humanity's soul. Don't agree? Your loss.
+shingnosis Roger Ebert of ALL people was so lost on this film and shallow until dying from cancer he saw it for what it really meant and changed his review and apologized..
+shingnosis That's absolutely right. The plot is *good enough*, but it's a movie you have to feel more than anything else...let it wash over you, preferably with a good smokey whisky in your hand. (I recommend Talisker or Laphroaig.) In my opinion it's the most beautiful movie ever made...certainly the most beautiful soundtrack allied to a stunning visual and thematic experience.
i have never met Rutger, but when i was younger i started to collect things, and i found his poster on ebay, listed by his STARFISH foundation. i bought it, and asked him via email if he could personalize it for me. his assistant told me that this is impossible, because Rutger was in Italy back then...but Rutger will prepare something for me. couple of weeks later i got his picture from the famous scene wit h the quote: i ve seen things you people wouldnt believe... - to Piotr, with a little heart drawn. what a gift to a fan. this guy was amazing. will always be in our hearts ;(
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe! Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion! I watched C-Beams glitter in the dark at the Tannhauser Gates! All these moments will be lost in time...like ...tears, in rain! Time to die...!" One of the most memorable lines in film history! Blade Runner is such a fantastic film!
Rutgar was such a gentle, well-spoken man. Some may remember him from Blind Fury, or Split Second, or even the Guinness adverts! But for me, his dying monologue at the climax of Blade Runner was imperious. I'm too old to be even commenting to be honest, but I've shed my fair share of tears watching and re-watching the Tears in Rain speech. Truly touching.
Hey for some reason this reminded me of "Too Old To Rock n Roll, Too Young To Die" -ruclips.net/video/oIREN2U1t7I/видео.html What if I tell you that my grandpa just dropped a (valid!) driver's license "for safety reasons", and that he'll - with some luck - turn 100 this january? Flesh+Blood, The Hitcher, Ladyhawke are three other great movies with Rutger Hauer who is one of my favorite actors. Dire Straits, INXS, Eurythmics, Talk Talk, Simple Minds, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Cock Robin, ABBA, The Police... It just goes on and on... The vibe of 80s just can't be beaten.
Rutger Hauer has an incredible charm and way of expressing himself that no-one else can. He just oozes intelligence and charisma, with a slight edge of danger. Brilliant performer.
Funny. I noticed that every SciFi movie I have ever watched, was a picture of the time it was created in. All the hopes, dreams, and fears of the age it was made in shine through. Not with Blade Runner. Blade Runner is timeless, and it's ageless. A true masterpiece. Thanks to the crew that made this possible. Thanks to Vangelis for creating the perfect music to accompany this. Thanks Rutger for carrying this. Rest in peace.
Also, Erik, thanks to Syd mead, the 'Futurist' artist who provided so much influence for the streetscapes, vehicles, weapons and miscellaneous items that give the film it's futuristically gritty feel! He also was involved in James Cameron's Aliens film. Check out his work!
So much of Science fiction is a mirror, an artifice for the current times political and social aspects. Blade Runner does not have this. Marry that with music that is emotionally centered, sets and technology that are not comical or outrageous, rather realistic and completely feasible and performed with authenticity, you get a timeless masterpiece. People can argue the story is an issue and that is of course fine, because story is personal and subjective. But Blade Runner is at the top of the cinema pyramid.
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die..." -- This was a fabulous interview. I saw the movie in the theater when it first came out and was astounded by it. I knew we had stepped into a new medium with it. The cool thing about Rutger Hauer is that he still loves it, appreciates the effect of it, is not jaded by it, and authentically reproduces in this interview the verse of his life, rather than the bloated remnants that become most great actors as years pass.
I agree. I say the same thing about John Carpenter's "The Thing." With all the advancement in special effects over the past 25 years, few sci-fi horror films can still match Carpenter's remake of the classic.
borimirtheboring Just wanna add what kind of movies we watched in our crappy theaters in the new wave era: Blade Runner, Alien, Apocalypse now, The THing, Raging bull, Ghandi, Das Boot, The elephant man, Mad max, Blues Brothers, Poltergeist, Kramer vs. Kramer, The Warriors, Excalibur and a myriad of others... tells a lot doesn't it?
Roy Batty was a freedom fighter, if there were more Replicants on Earth, he would've been a revolutionary, like Spartacus or possibly Gandhi. I cannot imagine anybody but Mr. Hauer in this role !
Daniel Appleton Just view this movie again after 2 decades. I got that feeling too and felt more sympathy for his character this time around. Wasnt much a follower of RH work then but checking out some of his more popular roles. Very under rated actor & I hope he was placed in roles with more range than just 'bad guy villan ' roles. But guess will find out.:)
pinz2022 He had roughly a lifetime of memories crammed into his brain, which was going to shut down / short out in 5 years. That would turn anyone sadistic & homicidal, & just plain old Joker - like bat - s**t crazy. & he's desperate because he wants a longer life - span. I'm not saying this excuses Roy & his actions, but it kinda puts them in context.

I could not agree with you more, Stuart. He was a beautiful man, inside and out, and a highly accomplished and intelligent actor. I hope his personal life was happy. We shall miss him.
Hauer the quintessential man of class and intelligence, RIP Sir. Hauer your contribution to the human experience will live throughout human history, thank you.
"The Blood Of Heroes" aka "The Salute Of The Jugger" with RH and Joan Chen is also a great film I rewatched many times, but doesn't come close to Blade Runner.
Hauer’s monologue at the end literally made that movie into the classic that it is. Everyone was great but Hauer encapsulated the theme of the movie and made you care deeply for the androids in the most articulate and beautiful way-great collaborative film making
Blade Runner 2049 is such a scam. Also severely underrated is Vangelis' score. Trying watching Blade Runner 2019 Final Cut with high quality headphones sometime... the SCORE is INCREDIBLE.
He passed away last week, I grew up with his early work in The Netherlands and I have always followed his career. He made me proud to be Dutch! Rutger, bedankt voor al je films! Ik heb er van genoten, rust in vrede mijn vriend....
@@duncanwcraig9668 Indeed a sad day.. Of course he was an international acclaimed actor. But not many Dutch actors achieved that status. In Blade Runner he died in 2019.. It's 2019 now, he was consequent.. :(

I met him getting off my flight from LA to A'dam the day after Christmas 1990. He needed help with his cases (luggage?) and ppl were just standing around looking at him rather awkwardly. I knew he needed help & jumped in. I look back these days and think I must have amused him since I spoke both English and Dutch to him, wishing to be polite. Sorta always wished I could have run in to him once more to apologize for my silliness. He was very quiet and shook my hand to thank me. Had very soft, fleshy hands, just as is seen in BR. His hometown is just outside of Utrecht, Holland (Breuklen) although I heard he was living somewhere up in Friesland when he passed away. I was born & raised in the LA area and am 65 now. I think Blade Runner is one of the most interesting and unique films ever made. Hands down. And without Rutger, it never would have been. Rust in vrede, broeder!
I saw hundreds of movies - most of them forgotten. But this scene will stay forever, as it is such a deep feeling in all of human beeings - begging for more life. And accepting when its over and make peace with the moment... all those moments are lost in time... like tears in .. rain.
I agree, most of todays movie makers think (if they ever do) that they can get away with explosions, car chases and foul language. Wit and Intelligence seem to have been ...lost in time...like tears... in the Rain....
Rutger Haur always thought and acted outside the box we all put ourselves in. He is my Hero. Blessings for you Rutger where ever and when you find yourself.
That wicked half-smile of his! What a good actor...how underrated he is.A very powerful voice,a very expressive face. He was beautiful too, savage graceful..
As a combat veteran in Vietnam, betrayed by our own country, I can strongly feel how that little speech laid open my pain; a pain that separates us from the civilians/politicians who creat wars and sennd us to fight.
Interesting perspective. The soldiers who fought in Vietnam. Trained, armed and sent into a chaotic environment came back to a country with scant understanding of the reality of it. That make me think of the soldiers of Iraq, Afghanistan, eastern Europe and God knows what else.
Goosebumps every time I hear that line "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" just fantastic. Makes me think so much about life contemplating what I am who created me. Also the idea we could possibly create life that could think for itself and then question us it's own creator in that explorative, mysterious, condescending, and superior manner which Batty delivers that famous line.
His performance in the movie and especially the last scene surely influenced my life and my way of thinking about things. This movie is still my most favourite of all time. I have a feeling this won't change until my last day. Great thanks to Rutger Hauer.
Every flick by this man was fantastic, sorry to see you leave us, everyone has their time...we have your movies to comfort and relive you and us..thanks
I am overjoyed to see this interview of Rutger Hauer...I LOVE HIM!!! He has this little boyish quality no matter what his age that just makes you want to hug him! LOL And I cannot imagine anyone else playing Roy Batty...he was absolutely the PERFECT choice. That final scene in Blade Runner where Roy Batty dies is truly moving which I think speaks to Mr. Hauer's depth as an actor and also the depth of this otherwise sci-fi film. It is a masterpiece - gorgeous on so many levels - and, along with 2 other films, made me a Ridley Scott fan as well. I have been enjoying Blade Runner for decades now. Love you Rutger!
My grandfather took me to see this movie when it came out. I was 15. I loved it. But most of all I loved that it felt like my grandfather was sharing a glimpse of something way off in the distance with me. Right up there with the day he used the last of his firecrackers to teach me how to set them off, and still keep all my fingers.
Nice memory ! I wonder if your grandfather thought it was just a regular sci-fi like StarWars, or realised it was something so much more special ? Either way, it's really cool that he took you. I wish my grandfathers were still alive. I must be about 10 years younger than you, but remember my parents watching BladeRunner from a VHS recording in the late 80s, when I was about 13. I've since watched it many times on DVD/BlueRay, and will finally get to watch it tomorrow evening at a cinema, thanks to the BFI for organising this one-off showing across the UK !
visually Blade Runner is still one of the most interesting/amazing films made to date. and Like Brazil, when it came out the studio executives did not understand or appreciate it's brilliance and tried to change it to fit their own limited cognitive faculties...
a lot of things happen in the background of Brazil and it's easy to miss them. especially look at the posters and what they say or how they have been altered to say something else such as the sign at the Shangri la apartments that Sam goes visits to deliver the refund check to Mrs Buttle for her husbands interrogation over charge ...someone has scrawled Shan-Gorilla apartments across them...that's just one example. there's a lot of behind the scenes stories and facts that make Brazil a lot of fun...just like Blade Runner, it's appreciated more by the fans than the hollywood system pretends to care
Through the years I have re-watched Blade Runner on dvd, and this scene comes back to my mind unbidden at random times, as though to remind me of my mortality and the evanescence of beautiful or spectacular sights and events I have witnessed as I approach my end (not so far off now).
I've seen and loved many great performances in many great movies, but Rutger Hauer as Roy Batty moved me more than, I think, anything I've ever seen on screen. The horrible irony of a replicant understanding humanity better than humans do, moved me so, and still does to this day. I'm glad he was aware of the effect his role had on people, as now I'll never have the chance to tell him so myself. RIP Rutger/Roy.
Right on Rutger, so well articulated, so right on... and you definitely put your heart and soul into that movie... Love you man... Cheers... so ahead of it's time...
Those beautiful Dutch eyes of this man will stay with me forever. His role in Bladerunner impacted millions, and his famous line is a comforting call in the dark to those who hear it. Dank u Rutger 🙏🏻😪
A true gentleman. Rest in Peace Rutger Hauer. The scene where his character Roy Batty dies is tremendously mocking. This will always be the greatest death scene in any film ever made.
Absolutely "flawless" acting and pure/ raw emotion. Tears in Rain will reverberate through eternity. You have my infinite thanks for all of those efforts!
It's incredible to live in a time when you can see someone in their prime and later in their twilight years reminiscing about their younger years. What a privilege.
In the end, the replicant taught the human how to feel human. Up until then, Deckard had seemed to be drifting in an empty sea emotionally. I agree with Harrison Ford, that Deckard was not a replicant. It makes the story much more interesting.
Mirin Brah If he's not a Replicant than how did Edward James Olmos character know to make a Unicorn Origami by his apartment doorstep? To resemble the unicorn in his dreams? Its not like Deckard would tell him about his dreams...
Budgie Cat The unicorn dream is only in one version of the movie, not in all versions. There were disagreements between the people that made the movie about adding that in. So that dream will depend on your own personal feelings about if its true or not. Personally I choose the versions without it, because it makes the story better and it makes more sense.
Mirin Brah I agree he is not a replicant, not because of the unicorn story, but because he fell in love with one. The great theme of this movie is unconditional love the main character craved so much.
Duke J That's true. Plus I like at how Deckard seemed to be in a bit of a funk in his life. Just living alone, drinking a lot. He wasn't really living. And then it took 2 replicants, Rachel and Roy, to teach him how to feel and be human again. I like the irony of a replicant teaching a lost human how to be human.
Budgie Cat I feel its more of a sign that there is more than just life... some things that are not explainable yet might occur anyway. In this case, he sees the image of his dreams through signs... In fact, Roy's speech gave him a whole new view on life, especially looking at the miracles it might bring and that made him more aware of it.
Einer der wenigen bewundernswerten Schauspieler mit eigenen Ideen, die er auch in seinen Filmen gezeigt hat. Die besten gehen leider immer zuerst. Er war keine Träne im Regen , er war ein Funke in der Dunkelheit .

Wow you blew my mind. So true. Rip Rutger.
Fun weird coincidence as well. He was born on the hottest recorded day in Dutch history and died on a day in which the record was broken.
@@MrFrussel He actually didn't, he died on 19th of July. The news broke on the 24th after his burial.
Wouldn't call it a "fun" coincidence neither. It's tragic.
@@065Tim Ah, ok thx for clearing that up. My bad. Spreading false information has became the norm anyway these few years :p
For me this film almost 40 years old has the most authentic feeling of any futuristic SciFi picture. All the CGI and other tech haven't come close to capturing the same experience. The actors the scenary, the music which is huge just makes it feel as real as it gets. One of the best movies ever made.
It would of been perfect with LCD displays but unfortunately we didn't have in the 80's
Word.
@@hiitsrudd8567 It was perfect as it was.
Mike, your absolutely right, cgi never feels right against the organic style of yesteryear. You couldn’t have said it better.
I do truly understand friend that is beyond words.
"It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society"
hi :)
Wow, that's unbelievably powerful.
I feel for you. Not pity.
I just feel for you.
I hope you find your peace........x
I'd give a lot to be able to see this movie for the first time again heh. Awesome experience. Truly mind blowing.
I grew up watching Jason and the argonauts from -63 and The journey to the centre of the earth from -59
it just rolled on from there. If you haven't seen any of those, i really recommend it. There is something about the special effects from the time that makes the movies alot more human. And doesn't distract from the journey or the messages or the plot.
The greatest film of all time. I know nobody will agree, but it is.
I agree
ditto :D I love it, keep coming back to it year after year and it only gets better
One of the greatest endings of all time.. I wouldn't say it's one of the greatest films though.
why would you say nobody would agree, it's a great story, theme and i want to know when my time is going to be up, so much to do, so little time
*****
LOL... you have crappy taste in film grandpa.
"The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and you have burned so very very brightly, Roy."
racketman2u So Roy’s response was to crush his Creators head with his bare hands and gouge his eyes out!
@@dynjarren7523 It's "I want more life, father". "I want more life, fucker" in the director's cut. I'm not sure about the final cut 👀
He was the best thing in the original Blade Runner.
The “very” expensive 🦉 shudda gotta Oscar
I am allways amazed how one of the most popular actors of that time, having starred as Han Solo and Indiana jones is being played against a wall, performance wise. And no I am not saying he played his part badly, its just Rutger's performance was so breathtaking...
Agreed, any movie Rutger is in, he makes it just that bit better, and BR is even more awesome due to the presence of Mr Hauer.
What?!.... no.... Sort of.
It is amazing , But when I think of Blade Runner , Harrison Ford is not the actor that comes to my mind , It is without a doubt Rutger Hauer .
Harrison's equivalent is this one: "Regarding Henry" - ruclips.net/video/OQrzt7JI_DM/видео.html
So true. Ruther Hauer has a face you instantly remember.
To me its actually both of these actors making Blade Runner what it is, the chemistry between them but also their way of acting.
Yup ..what a moment in movie !!
David Joe In test screenings the audience sympathized with Roy. The studio freaked out. Hence one of the reasons for the terrible voice over version.
Bladerunner is a masterpiece that can never be surpassed. It’s magic in a bottle. Music, lighting, special effects (NOT CGI), acting, message, nuance it has everything.

yeah it ruined me for navy life at the time
Rutger Hauer. Roy Batty. Blade Runner. One of the finest pieces of Sci-Fi/Noir cinema ever made.
Great actor!
The finest!
indeed
Genius. Rutger Hauer took a potentially 1 - dimensional character, made him into a sympathetic character.
The paradox of being a "killer soldier replicant" in the end demonstrating mercy and compassion for his nemesis as a final act. Shakespear somewhere in there folks.
@jrb designer alliance Wow. I didn't even know they were replicants.
I did this over Winter Break. The cinematography of this movie is amazing. The movie came out in 1982 but looked like it was produced in 2012.
+shingnosis That's absolutely right. The plot is *good enough*, but it's a movie you have to feel more than anything else...let it wash over you, preferably with a good smokey whisky in your hand. (I recommend Talisker or Laphroaig.)
In my opinion it's the most beautiful movie ever made...certainly the most beautiful soundtrack allied to a stunning visual and thematic experience.

i have never met Rutger, but when i was younger i started to collect things, and i found his poster on ebay, listed by his STARFISH foundation. i bought it, and asked him via email if he could personalize it for me.
his assistant told me that this is impossible, because Rutger was in Italy back then...but Rutger will prepare something for me.
couple of weeks later i got his picture from the famous scene wit h the quote: i ve seen things you people wouldnt believe... - to Piotr, with a little heart drawn.

Thank you for having existed mr Hauer, we really love you.

Definately the stars and planets were aligned in the right way, only then :(
Indeed. People were still creative.
Erik: Mead also designed Las Vegas for the director for Bladerunner 2049!
A study of mankind - this movie is ever contemporary and will always have something to give - the true masterpiece

This was a fabulous interview.
The style of Blade Runner is often imitated...
the soul of Blade Runner cannot be touched.

Amazing how well Blade Runner holds up to modern Sci Fi. In every aspect, effects, story, characters, everything.
I agree. I say the same thing about John Carpenter's "The Thing." With all the advancement in special effects over the past 25 years, few sci-fi horror films can still match Carpenter's remake of the classic.

But guess will find out.:)
winendesertrose Sorry. Roy was just too damned sadistic and homocidal. I knew where he was coming from, but I just couldn't stand him.
pinz2022 He had roughly a lifetime of memories crammed into his brain, which was going to shut down / short out in 5 years. That would turn anyone sadistic & homicidal, & just plain old Joker - like bat - s**t crazy. & he's desperate because he wants a longer life - span. I'm not saying this excuses Roy & his actions, but it kinda puts them in context.

My sentiments, exactly!
RIP Rutger , loved your work ,a great man ....

Rutger is totally awesome "like tears in the ... rain" but what an actor, omg, what a great actor!

I've since watched it many times on DVD/BlueRay, and will finally get to watch it tomorrow evening at a cinema, thanks to the BFI for organising this one-off showing across the UK !

visually Blade Runner is still one of the most interesting/amazing films made to date. and Like Brazil, when it came out the studio executives did not understand or appreciate it's brilliance and tried to change it to fit their own limited cognitive faculties...
a lot of things happen in the background of Brazil and it's easy to miss them. especially look at the posters and what they say or how they have been altered to say something else
such as the sign at the Shangri la apartments that Sam goes visits to deliver the refund check to Mrs Buttle for her husbands interrogation over charge ...someone has scrawled Shan-Gorilla apartments across them...that's just one example. there's a lot of behind the scenes stories and facts that make Brazil a lot of fun...just like Blade Runner, it's appreciated more by the fans than the hollywood system pretends to care
what a beautiful memory to share.

Bravo Rutger! My personal favorite scene in any film I have ever seen!
Through the years I have re-watched Blade Runner on dvd, and this scene comes back to my mind unbidden at random times, as though to remind me of my mortality and the evanescence of beautiful or spectacular sights and events I have witnessed as I approach my end (not so far off now).
Rutger Hauer Rest in Peace...Sad day today
I've seen and loved many great performances in many great movies, but Rutger Hauer as Roy Batty moved me more than, I think, anything I've ever seen on screen. The horrible irony of a replicant understanding humanity better than humans do, moved me so, and still does to this day. I'm glad he was aware of the effect his role had on people, as now I'll never have the chance to tell him so myself. RIP Rutger/Roy.

Please, do not forget Philip K.Dick.. the writer of the original book that this movie has been made "Do Androids Dream of Electirc Sheep"!
Not a hard book to get at all, I just bought a copy from Amazon, they've got thousands of copies.
A true visionary.
True but the book and the movie are quite different, both are great tho.
Thank you for that. I, now, must acquire and read it.
Nobody forget the Dick !
So happy Rutger was fulfilled in his historic "moment" in time that will last well beyond thirty years.
RIP Rutger, i think u know your beautiful work will never be forgotten😭
Amazing Rutger Hauer and wonderful Roy........Iconic and unforgettable both. Stars like you it will shine forever.
Einer der wenigen bewundernswerten Schauspieler mit eigenen Ideen, die er auch in seinen Filmen gezeigt hat. Die besten gehen leider immer zuerst. Er war keine Träne im Regen , er war ein Funke in der Dunkelheit .
A great actor....so underrated. We, Blade Runner fans, made people sit up and take notice. Thanks to all you other BR fans.
RIP, Rutger.
Great to see Roy Batty alive and well !!!
Blessings to you Mr. Hauer!
his scenic presence is unmatched....also in a simple interview he reveals a shocking variety of moods. He will be remembered forever!!! Thanks Roy
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.
And the way he spoke those "Shakespearean" lines were crucial to the soul within them.
One of the best monologues in the history of cinema.
Magnificent actor and a gorgeous man. There was something about him. That thing you can't put your finger on... I will miss you sir. His performance in Blade runner was haunting like we could see the future too. I know I did. I have to watch it again. RIP RUTGER HAUER.
Roy Batty's soliloquy is absolutely moving. Thank you Rutger for giving so much.
He was in some pretty forgettable movies. But his performances were NEVER forgettable.
He was in Batman Begins, that was the last time i saw him in the movie
Yep some real stinkers
No film with him is forgettable.
I was stationed in Okinawa when it came out. Id watch it over n over. It was genius. Roy Batty was the best character. Combat model, programed for max self sufficiency,,,,,just bad ass role and nobody culda dun it better than this man.
I was lucky enough to see this in Theaters and I was one of the people who loved it from the moment I saw it. Furthermore, this one "moment" scene sort of brings the movie together; makes you understand the motivation behind all of the characters. Just outstanding.
