This album is why Steve Gadd is my favorite drummer and why Chuck Mangione is awesome. Steve's drumming is so interactive and tasty it makes me teary, seriously....
Steve Gadd is the best. I only know him because I know Chuck thanks to my Mom. So many great players appear on Chuck and Gaps albums because they knew how good they were.
This whole album is great, but the number of times I have dropped the needle in the middle of this track just to hear the bass solo has left a “ring” of wear over this one part. It’s one of my favorites, and got me into the bass.
I have this rare vinyl album. Incredible performance from a concert in Rochester for flood relief. Rhythm section is a freakin clinic. Steve Gadd and Tony Levin. The late Jerry Niewood on sax. (killed in a plane crash near Buffalo) Smokin good.
Wow... I can't tell you the last time I actually heard this album... but this song is excellent... can't thank you enough for putting up this gem.... this is why I love youtube & the internet... peace...
Most of his recordings for Mecury an A&m are owned by Universal Music. Universals music library went up in smoke 10 years ago. So in other words it won't be on Spotify anytime soon. So this is the best you can do with this recording.
Besides Tony Levin's killer groove, what amazes me is his bass tone and sound. I always wondered how did he manage to make these ghost notes - sounds like he plays with his thumb while muting the notes (for instance, aroung 6:05), but then he goes on playing really effective triplets and chords that don't sound thumb-picked. Was he playing with a pick?
Steve Gadd on drums.i don't understand how harvey mason nor Steve ferrone never make greatest drummer lists but others make double lists of rock and r and b for just a few songs.also jazz list smh

Tony Levin rules!!!!
Back when Steve tuned his drums wide open - especially that bass drum - like the old jazz drummers. This is one of his very earliest recordings.
Love this bass solo!!!!!
Tony Levin"s the man.

Thank you so much for posting this classic performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would appreciate jazz a lot more, if saxophones weren't invented.- But this here is a killer groove from drummer/bassist.
LOL. I wish I could up thumb and down thumb it at the same time...
Recorded in Montreaux at the Jazz Festival.Look at the mountains.
A couple of months after I saw the same band at Ronnie Scott's.
I wonder if anyone has ever attempted to transcribe Gadd’s solo on this the first tune of the album?

Bass solo sucks.
You must be deaf
let's hear you do it
I believe that Tony Levin was still a teenager when he played this. Tell us about your significant accomplishments as a teenager.
@@stanleyb3671 No, he was about 25 but the solo isn't bad. I don't know what Josef Wassermann is talking about or if he even knows!
