The Middle Ages were the high point of civilisation. Your history books were written by the people who broke away form the Holy Roman Empire and wanted to describe a most beautiful time in history as 'primitive and dark' when in fact it was a stable regime for 1000 years.

It doesn't matter where we are from. It doesn't matter what religion we follow, what language we speak, or what country we are from. Ahh, the memories of medieval times. Yes! The grandeur of ancient kingdoms, serenity of monasteries, adventures of brave knights! The kings and queens! The epic battles! Those sweet loves lost in time! When indoor plumbing was but a dream, and dentistry consisted of hammer and chisel. That wonderful, magical time when, once a year before vespers, the family would all bathe using the same bucket of water. And war, pestilence, plague and famine meant summertime was here! Great-grandpa used to set us 'round the fire and regale us with tales of his childhood 30 years before. Those simple, uncomplicated times when we solved problems by blaming and burning the underprivileged. Ahh. Such was the time of wonder and bliss.
As I did tread the path toward mine own true love, I camest upon a tree of apples most fair and bounteous 🌳The fruit so sweetly did tempt mine hand that I tarried there, plucking and feasting 'til thought of my love was wholly forgot 🫠 Yet whilst I lingered in gluttonous delight, she, in her waiting, was not so idle. Another man did find her, and with him she laid in dalliance and in love 💀 And thus, my tale is ended.

this is not what medieval music sounded like. Here's a video showing some medieval plectrum instruments with some music being played on them as well: ruclips.net/video/3SVNk9-ohCU/видео.html another example for medieval music are minstrel songs like of Oswald Wolkenstein: ruclips.net/video/PxNqKRuKje8/видео.html or french chansons of the 15th century as those of Binchois: ruclips.net/video/-7h17rIuyEg/видео.html a lot of music that was written down was spirital music though so we have stuff like Perotins viderunt Omnes: ruclips.net/video/KA6oq_UYbyA/видео.html or the messe de notre dame by Guillaume de Machaut: ruclips.net/video/fY0PuLBT7BY/видео.html
these composers are early renaissence, because of the role of the major third, and because of the press revolution and great discoveries. The author should call it fantasy because of the synth layer and the minor chord in the cadence of “silver Moon” ( or call it neo-medieval, keeping some harmonic boundaries) . Perotin is ars antiqua and end of middle ages, actually does not represent it well, he was a revolution. But it is interesting how they differ from the video above, and are quite hard to imitate. I tried to incorporate these ars antiqua (organum) sounds here ruclips.net/video/qh2gBjsrlwc/видео.htmlsi=zVlYEGaBcF2795m1 .
@LearnCompositionOnline hm I don't quite understand your point, perotin was living during the transitional era from high to late middle ages not at the end of the middle ages which is mostly said to span from ca. 500 to 1500. He definitely was extremely innovative though while working in the great cathedral school of notre Dame - still his works got popular also in different parts of europe with an English man writing about him as well (calling him the better one by far compared to his teacher Leonin). As for Guillaume de Machaut I have never heard anyone call him not medieval. It wouldn't make sense to label him as a renaissance composer either, as by his time (14th centur) what we now call the "renaissance" only just started very localized in Italy. Machaut however was part of the Ars nova and composed in France (also at the notre Dame cathedral school). The same goes for minstrel singing, this one is pretty much one of the most iconic "medieval" traditions there are. The only composer for which you could make the point that he's a "renaissance" composer is binchois. You would have to explain why though, technical development alone can't point to sth being destinctively a renaissance product and even if you were to label him as a renaissance guy he still would be living in the TIME period of the late middle ages. I also don't really know why you come up with the press revolution - an event which happened in the late middle ages in Germany and can't really attributed to the renaissance (the rebirth of ancient philosophy, Latin and art) as well.
