  • If you're thinking to integrate the maize with legume, this video is for you.
Growing maize peanut from sowing to harvesting.
Intercropping is the cultivation of two or more crop species simultaneously in the same field for the whole or a part of their growing period.
The advantages of intercropping comprise yield increase higher resource use efficiency, building of soil organic matter, improved N cycling , and suppression of insect pests, weeds and diseases.
The need for chemical inputs (for instance N fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides) is often lower in intercrops than in sole crops. Thus, intercropping provides an opportunity to intensify agriculture in a sustainable way. Cereal/peanut intercropping is practiced worldwide. Maize/peanut intercropping is more land use efficient than the sole crops.

Thank you for sharing your garden and knowledge with us. I’m a RUclips gardener too. It’s my 3rd year and ever year I try to get better. This year I’m trying intercropping/companion planting. I found your channel in my research. This is very helpful and I and so happy I found you. I hope we can learn more from each other as we grow our gardens and our channels! Happy Planting!

How is the profitability of the inter cropping v using the whole field for 1 crop. You see to leave lots of space between rows to allow for another plant whats the thinking?

    • @ERICKKUMARI

Profitability in both intercropping and monocropping depends on various factors, including the specific crop combination, market conditions, farming practices, and the scale of operation. It's essential for farmers to carefully analyze these factors and consider their specific circumstances to determine the most profitable approach for their situation.

Are you not applying any inorganic fertilizer or foliar in both plants?

That are local made, just take a picture share with your local mechanics they can make for you. I saw DJ Aisher, She is Kenyan, with those kind of tools.

That field was neglected. Too many weeds.

Good thoughts. When you're doing profitable agriculture, you must consider economic threshold level of weeding frequency. There's no significant difference if you weed three times for maize.
