Started off with ZX80, then ZX81, Spectrum, QL, Amiga, PC's, then Macs. I remember going to the Spectrum Launch to buy mine and speaking to Sir Clive, alas he was less keen on talking to me LOL! This project does look tempting. I remember having a book which was a dump of the ROM explaining every entry point shame I don't still have it. My 20's were defined by what now is the "Retro" scene, and as a programmer - IBM mainframe by day, Sinclair's then Amiga by night! Once it became PC's at work and home the hobby side faded. This Channel just brings it all back for me and since I'm retired I have a little time...

Thanks for watching. With over 200 videos on the channel there is plenty to watch ;-) The Spectrum is a great project. I never had one before and I had a lot of fun building it. Other than for most of the other retro machines you can build real new Spectrum. That's pretty cool for 2024.

This seems like a very good solution especially for a computer where a single failed transistor can scorch all your upper and lower ram. good job

Thanks! Yep. I think this works great as a replacement.

Wolfgang this is brilliant. I was an original Spectrum owner back in the day (previously it was a ZX81 that was the first computer I ever built!). Thanks for this, your enthusiasm shines through!!

Love the video, but would it be possible in future to have the main camera full screen with your head as overlay in a corner, its hard to see details. Subscribed!!

GREAT video! I love it when something works the 1st time! What are you building next? Do they have a kit for a Commodore 116?

Thanks! Not sure yet. That Specy was really cool to build. You should try it. I am sure you will love it! I don't think there is a C116 but as far as I know you can run the emulator for it on exactly this board!

@@RetroWK No I don’t it’s one of those computers that never appealed to me. I never even ran a spectrum emulator. It just doesn’t do it for me. It’s no C64 or Atari.
Did you have one as a kid?

The board is inexpensive but the case, the keyboard membrane and rubber keycaps etc. adds up quickly. Not quite as much as an Omni 128HQ but close...

That's not a spectrum and what a mess.
