I heard that song for the first time in the mid-80s, I was 2-4 years old then and it hit me even then..now I'm 40 years old and memories flood my mind when my father put ELO's cassette in the car stereo while driving.
How many albums can you REALLY enjoy without skipping a single track, Tyler? Well, "Time" IS definitely one of those, isn't it 🤗 The underrated follow-up "Secret Messages" (1983) might be the next one - I so enjoy your joy ❤️
Yes. Time and Secret Messages are the Best of ELO in my opinion. I adore the mystical feeling of Secret Messages. The world wasn't ready for it at the time I guess.
@@markusandergard6925 And it is actual full of secret messages - backmasked vocals and hidden speach including "Listen to music," "Hup two three four," "You're playing me backwards," "Plant a tree," and "..acquire... It's seriously gonna be fun"
"Secret messages' is my fave album.I also love the XANADU album which they also did with Olivia Newton John. But all the songs they contributed for the movie were very very good."I AM ALIVE"'/ALL OVER THE WORLD'/"THE FALL" Are all great ones
You should definitely check out their album following Time called “Secret Messages” it’d be a great album to cover like you did with Time. The genius of Jeff only gets better!
Also a phenomenal album. I was hooked on _Stranger_ when it was on the radio. The title track, _Secret Messages, Time After Time,_ and _Bluebird_ are the one I kept going back to once I bought the cassette.
Best song on the album together with "your's truly, 2095" although entire album is brilliant ofc. Think he sings "meteor shower" btw. Yup Jeff Lynne was a decent musician/songwriter 😉😁
Such a haunting tune. Okay, so when you're done with this album, you'll be hitting, "The Diary of Horace Wimp". Well, in that case, just go through that whole album like you did this one. It's ELO's 1979 studio album that preceded, Time (1981). Every track is good or great. You've already reacted to one of the tracks on the LP called, "Last Train To London", so after you do Horace Wimp, you would have 7 remaining songs on the album. But actually, before you leave, Time, you should do a song that didn't make the album but should have. It's called, "When Time Stood Still".
There were news stations that used short portions of the song back in the day. After the hyper-pop of the Discovery album and the Xanadu soundtrack that brought much criticism, Jeff wanted to take the band in a different direction. Time shocked many fans because of the missing beloved string-heavy sound. The album saw mid-success and produced a top 10 single that’s the last song. Funny enough, as synth-heavy the music is, it doesn’t sound as dated as you might expect. Other early 80s synth-based radio songs truly sound like relics now. It's probably because Jeff’s great pop/rock songwriting sensibilities overrides all. It's not surprising that electronica artists like Daft Punk point to the Time album as an influence. It may be their most influential album for the music industry.
I've known this song since it was first released (so a long time!^^) and danced to it like a discofox until I got dizzy. It's very familiar to me, I know every single note. But watching these reaction videos, it's almost as if I'm hearing them for the first time again! It's great how carefully you listen, enjoy the old music and like it! My children just wave tiredly when I arrive with the old stuff. "Mom, you're stuck in your time!" "YES! Those old farts invented good music and your favorite musicians are stealing it today because they don't have that imagination!"😂
When you think Jeff wrote Tightrope, Mr Blue sky, Last train to London and this (plus earlier heavier string laden stuff you haven't heard yet) can anyone write a more diverse range of songs and do it this well?
Hi Tyler. I'm glad you're experiencing "Time" by E.L.O. because it's my favorite album by them. Every song on the album is great! After you've reacted to every song, please revisit it by playing the entire album non-stop. You will enjoy it so much more that way. After that I recommend you do an "After Show" for the entire album. Take care! - Bill (Mount Holly, NJ)
Watching you on this “Time” journey has been an incredible experience! I can’t wait to see you do “Secret Messages”- their next album! (Or whatever album of theirs you choose to listen to)
Its set in 2095; people live on the moon and have robot girlfriends. Saw them tour this 10 Dec 1981. 27 songs, they played 27 songs. Top ten bands I've seen.
There's a song that didn't make the 'Time' album, but it was a B- Side to one of the singles, and it's called 'Julie Don't Live Here Anymore'. It's a shame it wasn't included on the album because it's a fantastic song. Here's to hoping you continue your journey into the great ELO, and please try to include Marissa, as the two of you feed off of each other very well with your reactions.
The Entirety Time Album is Futuristic Space Sound. Quite Unique From other ELO Albums. It Divided Fans at the Time if it's Release Some Hated It. Others Loved it As I Did !!
Yes Jeff is the goat. "Here is the News" blew me away the first time that I heard it back in 1981. Heck the whole album blew me away. Phenomenal from start to finish. In my humble opinion ELO's Jeff Lynne and Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish are two of the best songwriting composers ever. Thank you Tyler. Paul 👍😊
I use the intro as my ringtone. It drives my wife crazy. My kids are fans of April Fools, and their favorite trick is to bring up this song, making me think the phone’s ringing. Checkout the whole album, it’s stellar! My fave is “From the End of the World,” but I won’t skip any on this album.
Yes Tyler, you’ll love the next one. The end if this track drifts into 21st Century Man. Brilliant reaction as usual 👍. BTW, consider a full album track by track reaction of Eldorado, another Jeff classic concept album.
This whole album is about a guy that got sucked into the future (not unlike Pebble in the Sky by Isaac Asimov), and when he sings "I want to go home, I want my baby back" it's in the context that he's tired of the future and his IBM girlfriend. I have to admit I still love this song after 40+ years of listening to it.
My favorite ELO album. You really should listen to the whole thing. It’s similar to Styx’s “Kilroy Was Here” album in that it departed from the group’s normal sound and both are more relevant today than the early 80’s.
For me, it is hard to believe, that there are so many classic hits, that you (and many other first time youtube listeners) never heard before ;-) How do you choose which songs to use? Did you really never hear any of them before in your life?
time came out whn i was in hs, whn i heard v album it sounded futuristic n some of v songs were interlinked, it was a fav of mine at v 'time' hehe. ticket to v moon is a fav. yours truly was put to anime n is on ytybe, its almost like it was writen 4 it n i tink it paid homage 2 metropolis ( fantastic early scfi film- frm russia i tink?)
So glad I am in the US since our version of the album included _Time After Time_ which was a perfect way to end side 1 to lead into _Four Little Diamonds_ to kick off side 2.
Well it's Tyler's channel so I won't be in every video 🤷♀️, but it's usually because we couldn't find a time to meet. We both have very busy schedules and Tyler's apartment is a bit of a drive for me.
Hey, a Dutch broadcasting network called VPRO have been using the intro since the 80's right up to the present day.
Brings a tear of joy when the kids discover great music like ELO.
My favourite track on the album. So far ahead of its time.

There is a broadcasting corporation in The Netherlands that still uses it

The official video for this song is lots of fun.
"Somebody has broken out the satellite two".

Amazing song, amazing production!!! This album is so good, it is so futuristic and it is made in 1981!
I love how Jeff has incorporated the Greenwich Time Signal (BBC use it on radio) in his news jingle at the very beginning!!!

ELO’s Time was a concept album. What’s everyone’s opinion that this album is what we now call techno or club music 🎶

Very interesting how you brought a newness breakdown to an old song I've heard a lot through the years 🤔. Thanks!
Jeff Lynne referred to 1979’s Discovery album as “Disco? very”. Because if the heavy influence of Disco music of the time.
FYI - ELO filmed a video for this song!
The video of HITN is a little "campy", kinda funny. Not gonna spoil it, but I laughed at it!
