Fun Fact: It's actually a sign of wealth and status back in the ancient days to have an *_ABSURDLY_* long nail on one finger (usually the pinky) on your non-dominant hand. This practice is most commonly seen on royal and wealthy women.
They even invented a fingernail guard, usually engraved with intricate patterns and plated with gold to protect their nails from getting damaged.
The reasoning behind this is due to the inherent impracticality of having a fingernail that long, no manual labourer are able to have their fingernails grow that long without it snapping off or interfering with their work. So she must be royalty or at least very wealthy with a lot of servants.

When I bit my nails the way I stopped was by coating them in nail polish so there were no loose ends and then I didn't want to bite them anymore and they didn't peel on things. Hope this helps!

Can you imagine how frustrating it must be to grow your nails THAT long, only to have ONE of them break when you're doing something? ONE of mine ripped the other day when I was moving my TV & mine are short! It hurt, but at THAT length, it *HAS* to be painful if it rips near the nerves. I imagine it's annoying to have to grow one back out to be even with the others, too. Kudos to them for not being as clumsy as me. 😅
