- In video 1488 I look at a horrible knockoff of the American branded padlock, made by Shield Security company. Absolute junk.

The Chinese might not harden shackles, but they do harden random mechanical parts. Most notably screws that go into plastic.
That makes perfect sense. Not.
Welcome to the China Hotel! Hardened butter to go with the softest bread.
1:04 I now have a copy of your right thumb print if I ever find out you've upgraded to digital security.
I recently got a real American series 1100 padlock from Amazon for $9. I gutted it, it’s legit. Imagine making a terrible knockoff and charging more for it than the original
Sometimes it's just amazing how they manage to produce locks that work at all. They seem to know how to reduce cost to the maximum....
This gives me mixed feelings, it's a shame for the quality of the lock, but as a Dutchman I can't really disapprove of saving costs while the essence remains working :P
On 7:16 To the end all I could do is laugh.
A while ago I picked a cheap Chinese euro cylinder that makes that lock look good. I had Dinger pins in mine as well. I just didn't know what they were called. Thanks for clearing that up Bill with your techno terms.
Well executed with that plug spinner. Did you say a Singer? Ringer, Finger, Kinger, Linger, Ringer, wait I missed one, a hardened Dinger. Ding ding ding ding. LOL!!!!
I would venture to guess this is made by the same Chinese factory that makes the US General American 700 knockoff sold at Harbor Freight. The “hardened” looks almost the same
The difference is, the US General with a real american 700 core & anti-bypass wafer is actually somewhat respectable for low security applications like the inside of my garage door.
It's so hardened that you can see your fingerprint profile in high definition.
Also, I'd love to see LPL pick this lock - purely so we may see his masquerade reappear 😂
AWESOME PICKIN', Bill, great info; thanks for sharing !👍😊
nicely done bill, great video as always.
That is an interesting technique with the spinner and all. 💪
Looks like a WHAT, Bill? Lol 🤣🤣🤣
I'm going to hazard a guess that it's not so much they didn't have the right pins but rather someone figured out that pinning up with a single size then licking it with a grinder to flatten while the key is in can be done much faster than actually pinning it up properly by hand, so that's what the workers are instructed to do...
Shield Security is a private label made for HD Supply, an MRO supplier. They do multifamily, hospitality, industrial accounts, and the like.
Rough looking lock Bill! Not that the lock gave you a difficult time, but I noticed the cammed area on the back of the cylinder was running vertical, maybe a candidate for the American bypass driver? Thanks as always sir!
"don't need the stinkin' keys"
Fledgling picker question: Where does the rotational spring tension come from when this is assembled? Is it a spring on the actuator? And if so, does that make reassembly tricky with a strong spring?
Yeah, the spring is on the actuator. To gut the core and bible, you don't need to remove it
The actuator Inside the lock has a spring on it that transfers the rotational pressure to the core. It remains inside the lock and holds the ball bearings in place, but can be removed if necessary because it is a press fit. Pop one open and take a look...
Wow, that’s bad! Talk about rough.
Looks like the same factory that makes the 'hardened' Horrible Freight "US General" lock.
Very cool trick Bill.
Good trick to reverse pick it.👍🏻Amasing HARDENED padlock.😆
Oooooh, SHINY! BUT not pick proof!
Kitty, kitty, kitty?
The Master 911 has very strong tension. I picked it backwards and it was very easy that way.
Remove the ball bearing, put the long spring into 3, and leave 4 as a double spring. Boom! Improved lock :D
The spinner is pretty cool. It looks like a Star Trek medical device. (Trust me... you don't want to know what they do with it.)
Lock says HARDENED, box says "body non-hardened", wonder which one we should believe...
I’m ignorant.
It seemed to me like being so “rough” was actually good, for resisting picking.
I imagine that if you wanted a lock to usable for an extended period of time maybe this sort of thing may become inoperable.
Can someone please elaborate on whether this is objectively bad, or if there are upsides for the user beyond a low price?
I made the mistake of purchasing one of those a couple years ago because it had a Schlage key and I thought I could rekey it to my house keys. Found out that the spacing on the pins doesn’t match a Schlage or even a Schlage knockoff! Very disappointed, bought an Abus instead...
I’d like to see bill and LPL have a contest. Maybe someone can make 4-5 duplicate locks for each and see who wins.
oh boy, good ol youtube hiding you from my feed...
Another padlock
Another great video
Those pins look like what I'd get if I tried to make pins with 0 machining experience. Is it really a spool if it's just a malformed standard pin?
Cheap bypassable padlock alright for low security application.
Sick intro.
looks like those pins were found on the side of a road after being driven over a couple thousand times.
A lock so secure the key barely opens it.
is the body worth to put a proper core in it?
look at that tailpiece - it would be hard to find a decent core that would fit this lock
Well, it is HARDENED.
Is there any way to send you a picture of bottom of a lock so you can identify it? Bought a storage container with a steel tube that surrounds it and I wasn’t given a key. Thus the low price. Am a novice at picking and knowing what lock it is will greatly improve my chances at opening it. It’s brass. Standard keyway, nothing special. Master lock? Has no pins or anything visible holding the lock together. Like a diamond shape. But the bottom of the keyway (where you’d put your tensioner) there is a small hole. Like a spot you’d put a reset button behind. Any ideas?
Is there any way of making "Homemade" lock picking tools and picking a lock with it?
Sure there is! Here's the playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLTSWkYxuSlkWZt8pXHiV7xewOUEXNb3Qk
Looks like a dinger. Lmao
*_-Believe in The Shield-_*
It's regular steel dipped in crome
Wow 👍
Ya gets what ya pay for i guess
Was it hardened, though?
Adding 2 or 3 anti-bypass wafers, serrated & spooled security pins, and a more challenging bitting would make a much more secure lock. But if it's really hardened steel, then I might have to order 1 or 2 of them and put the locks on steroids.
@@thelockpickinglebowski633 yes but just cut the shackle as 99% would do.
A lot of Chinese products come pre rusted that way you don't have to worry about rust
Anyone else bothered by the fact that the little ball bearing replacing pin #6 makes its escape from the pinning tray before the end of the video?
One vote for this hardly being “hardened”
AHaHa!
Nice little trick wit the Chineseiam lock.
Kinda seems like the hard way to do it.
Can't fault their chicken chow mein to be fair.
That's cat you know.
@@vector6977 but it tastes like chicken
Those are the famous Chinese blob pins. So badly made, they act as spools.
Ah, good ol' "dinger" pin's.😁
Lesson here, don't be a cheap ass when buying any type of security product.
Why do you have the strangest intros?
Its Chinese quality and not Deutschen Qualität.
Just because it's a cheap lock, doesn't mean we need racist comments guys
That Chinese company needs to get smaller fingers to file them spools. Maybe some 3yr old workers?
any ((bros)) here?
