Where do you draw the line than? Because this is sampling, not stealing necessarily. He made something new with existing material from another artist, albeit simple. Obligatory "just curious what you think man" sentence.
People need to start acknowledging joji's early music, before George was still not Joji yet but experimenting with his love for music, where he started to grow apart from his comedy, what started it all. Songs like You Suck Charlie, Thom, Rain On Me, etc, all of them deserve the same love that his current stuff gets. I honestly wish Joji kept the lo-fi production instead of going into a more mainstream pop, but it is what it is, I love the guy and love his music.
His old production style (this shit) could never be topped in my mind. I don't know if he still produces his beats, but everything sounds too polished. Too much like what I hear everywhere, on every radio station, on every TV show. This version of George's music was distinguishable, and Thom + Medicine were what sucked me in when I found him in 2015. It's depressing now.
@@Akira-ho9mf It's all here on RUclips still, even the stuff from 2015. He used to upload the music to a channel "anna gold", if you can't find the channel or the two songs uploaded there, try simply searching; "Chloe Burbank Vol 1". I think it was his first attempt at releasing an album, but I'll be god damned if the music isn't 11 times better than it is now. Anything up until his "In Tongues" EP is considered godlike imo. It's just different, style, and production. I personally enjoy "Thom"', "Plastic Taste" "Besidju", "Worldstar Money", "you suck charlie", "Unsaved Info", "They don't Understand", I could go on and on really. At the time, the music was REAL FUCKING GOOD. Since then, not only has Joji not been able to match that caliber, but nobody else has either. It's sad. This shit is like soul music to me now, I could damn near cry listening to any of them. More over the fact that Joji is passed a lot of things in his career, and that my favorite genre of his music is basically over. But hey, I don't have a choice but to not give a shit. I also LOVED his trap music. "Hood Rich" with Nick Colleti and Getter is an absolute BANGER. And I consider "Bitter Fuck" a trap song too, it sounds pretty trappy. That's from the "In Tongues" EP though. Which also had "Rain on Me", which was ORIGINALLY a 2014 track produced BEFORE Chloe Burbank even dropped. So it was probably a throwaway from that album. You can actually find a 7 second DEMO of the song with different lyrics on Joji's old Vine, and surprisingly, I almost like that version more. Low-Fi Joji has peaked imo, and I will gladly eat my words if proven wrong, but I fear that's not the case.
hey guys, im very happy to know many of you are still listening to music george made in the early burbank era days! i still listen to these songs occasionally and i cannot describe how nostalgic i feel. hope everyone and each of you are doing well.
Lo-Fi as an approach and movement goes far deeper than study beats, but I still view this track as an essential work of art and no doubt the initial exposure to the genre for an entire generation of internet users.
Can't believe how much Joji has come. Dude I'll miss the FilthyFrank side of him but glad he's really trying to step up in his career and trying to do other things. I can't wait till he blows up super big. You can tell he's worked hard lately.

im not sure if it was intended or not, but george not being in this video makes it hit even harder. This song feel like being alone. Watching friends having fun from afar. You are aware of the time passing in front of you. Something just out of reach, something you cannot 'pick up'
This song helped me through my deep depression.. Thanks Joji and 88 rising. You don’t know how much you helped people through the music that y’all bring in my life. ❤️🔥
An alternative to the song: it's speaking towards the listener to keep going on with their life, instead of thinking about committing suicide. "Don't be what you want to" this is her telling you don't focus on being dead. "Warm heart" just carry on with a warm heart. "Pick it up" can be a double entendre to pick up your "medicine", which can be anything that is helping you with your mental state, and sounds like a motivating line to keep going on with your life. (Based on the pink 8-bit cover, I could see symbolism. You may view it as you picking up the "controller", which is you, and begin a fresh start with your new life, after dying bitter and alone from your past one.) The music video can be an inspiration for you to go out and have a good time with people that love and care for you.
I thought the original was talking a drug abuse saying that you can become sober and live your life while joji's song is saying that some people needs the medicine to be who they want to be.
I think the meaning of this song is that the girls are having fun to cure the depression they are going through. Partying, alcohol and designer clothes as the medicine to be the person who people like, instead of the person they like to be. The video represents the image of how they show to be, the music represents the unconscious voices in their head. The lesson being: Even though it may seem like some people are having it better than you do. You never know what they are really going through. So appreciate the things you have instead of seeking for more. Btw, I know it's a remix so it wasn't intended to have a meaning like this. But music is the same as art, it can have different meanings.
+John Doe Damn this FilthyFrank...I'm a fucking metalhead who adores Multiple Genres of Heavy metal with Lyrical themes of Destruction,Murder,Chaos,Burning Churches,Punching Priests,Praising Satan...But this remix of Daughter's "Medicine" turned my Nihilistic Rage and Hate into Ice Cream and fat Cuddly cats. Amazing that this came from the mind of the person who created the greatest, Morbid internet character of all time.
chicken voyage nah he's not poetic just showing how they feel inside that's why that video translates that way to them. I just saw people living life and having fun but they're unfortunately probably depressed so that's what he/she picked up from the video
God, the production value on this if it was a fan video though, one hell of a fan. But 88 rising is a media company, if it isn't clear from the rest of the channel.
I feel like people arguing that the video doesn't fit the music are really projecting their own ideals and visions onto the sound. The song is tranquil, nostalgic and beautiful; the video shows a kind of nostalgic, tranquil beauty as well - albeit one that most of us aren't familiar with. Nevertheless the video is so well shot that I feel instantly at home watching this video.
There might be another element..the lyrics. Quite interesting actually. There are chosen words and these words are repeated many times. Quite conspicuous.
who else be missing this joji? He's greater than ever before, each song he launches is better than the previous one but these old ones, they just hit different
I think this song implicates the struggle that Joji's having with making music. 'Don't be, what you want' to is brilliant. All the Filthy Frank and Pink Guy stuff that he made just to boost his actual music actually getting so much more attention that the stuff he'd actually like to make, the music he produces behind the name 'Joji'. I hope more people actually find _him_.
actually this song is from daughter & its basically that with a second chance in life we can be who we want, despite any obstacle from the past we can get to the place in life that we so desperate crave
Does anyone remember when this song came out and everyone was trying to read into the lyrics super hard? "Omg guys, he said "don't be what you want to"!!!! this means that the fans are holding him back!!!"
i remember finding this for the first time and being so happy he was able to accomplish his true calling. While I appreciate Frank, i appreciate that he was able to give us Joji at the end of it. A bittersweet drop of medicine that makes you realize that people get older and change.
My friend who Ive known since I was 5 at preschool recently passed away from an overdose. We had almost every single class together in elementary school and stayed close in high school. This song came to my mind, just got done with my freshman year of college and man I was so excited to see how successful she would become. Miss you
Fuck. This song makes me feel so good. Then when I realized what it really meant, it made me feel both melancholic and somewhat nostagically happy. Joji is such a great man, everytime I read about him I get to admire him more. I'm happy that I can actually enjoy and support his musician work. Great man, great artist.
@@luwan6439 it's a remix of a song by the band Daughter that speaks about someone who needs medicine (for mental health) but refuses to get it. Joji remixes is in a way that it sounds like he wants to and takes the medicine, but in itself, it's not enough. Laments over what has happened to his life ("Don't be what you want to"). It's very relatable in a really bad way. I hope he's in a better place now, with all the success, and that the same might come to everyone who experience the same anxiety.
2015, his friends leaked some tracks and the chans spread them, he got embarrased, that's why he never remastered the entire thing, I believe he browsed the chans and the comments on the mixtape got to him, I was like 19 when this dropped and it was the perfect time, leaving the edgy memelord weaboo misandric days behind and enjoying life a lil bit more like he did, you can always get drunk and rewatch the vids and the songs tho
I feel this song is more than enough, Joji makes it deeper and more thorough through the melody that makes me go back to 2010 - 2017 where between Joji and the Pink Guy are still in one eye and fight for Joji's name with difficulty. why time flies so fast, i miss everything. love you George!
I remember listening to this on loop on Soundcloud about half a decade ago when joji still went by a different name and I felt certain that he'd be an amazing music artist.
We're not "internet police", we are just saying that this is not much of progress as of this moment as he has made a lot more songs after this, and this single song made 5 years ago has not made any progress for his music as of this year as this track is nothing like the music he has made recently.
Cant believe they didnt credit her... Like ffs people telling the lyrics are good and joji is basically god but that's completely untrue.... IT'S DAUGHTER FFS ELENA TONRA
holly fuck this old joji beats take me back when the community was recently figuring out that frank was making music under the name joji, and it’s not just that, but at that time i was going through a lot and his music help me hold tight and breathe I’ll always be grateful for this man and the opportunity of wittness him make history Thank you Joji.
First heard this 4-5 years ago as a franku fan and Joji soon became my one of favourite artists ever which he still is to this day. I'm happy he was able to evolve musically so well. NECTAR is looking to be amazing! But it's always nice to return to these old bangers
Yes it is. Remember when there was the rappers react video and the guy behind the camera goes, "Oh, I manage him." to Ghostface Killah? 88Rising is a label as well. They do everything.
IshDat1KiD I know it sounded like you were using the fact they manage rich chigga as support for showing that 88rising is a record label, I was just stating that record labels and managers aren't the same thing

I love the lofi JOJI but BALLADS 1 & NECTAR JOJI is great. Guys please, be satisfied on what joji is doing.
Still a banger til this day fr
Medicine by Daughter is my go to depression song and hearing this with joji makes me happy
I can't believe filthy Frank made this. We talking about the guy who has taken a ramen bath and wears a pink morph suit... But I love it.
It was made years ago but yes
And now he is dead joji killed him
This is a song originally made by daughter
be present and live , don’t limit yourself
I just want this back on Spotify. I'm a simple man and this would put a smile on my dumb ass face.
i wish this was on spotify all of joji's songs are amazing, but nothing hits me or means so much to me unlike this song does
Download it through local files if you want it there
Ecstatic that Joji is getting so much exposure right now. He makes me laugh and I love his music. So much creativity in one human being.
Can't believe its been 6 years since I first heard this song. Been through alot since then, thank you.

I know it is, I've heard it numerous times, but you can notice how Joji did edited the lyrics to say that
Interesting Minds: Episode 10, The Mind of a Minecraft PvPer
*Patrip* Well played, well played.
EedeePvP it says do be what you want to be
Does anyone remember when this song came out and everyone was trying to read into the lyrics super hard?
"Omg guys, he said "don't be what you want to"!!!! this means that the fans are holding him back!!!"
almost 8 years ago. still bangin'
this video was pretty cool, felt like I got a glimpse into another life
highvoltage47 yea tru
Love this song
Liking everyone's comments so they have a reason to come back and listen to this absolute gem
brings me back mannn
i remember finding this for the first time and being so happy he was able to accomplish his true calling.
Miss you
The warm feeling of nostalgia is really taking over me. thank you Joji for the amazing music
Man, I hope they put this on Spotify and other platforms. It's been years already.
Fuck. This song makes me feel so good. Then when I realized what it really meant, it made me feel both melancholic and somewhat nostagically happy. Joji is such a great man, everytime I read about him I get to admire him more. I'm happy that I can actually enjoy and support his musician work. Great man, great artist.
what does it really mean?
Makes me sad and depressed....
The sample is from Medicine by Daughter just in case anyone doesn't know and is interested :P
From this to Glimpse of us. What a legend, I'm happy for you papa frank.

George Miller is talented af.
J Chuck yess
Alright I feel stupid but is George Miller an alias for joji?
@@kjsciacca jojo is George miller
@@jchuck1737 ok thanks. He’s a great director
1:35 her smile is just too precious man...
song is a real blessing
I love lofi joji the most
I remember listening to this on SoundCloud like 5 years ago when Filthy Frank was still big and no one knew about joji yet
same. summer 2016 :,(
2015, his friends leaked some tracks and the chans spread them, he got embarrased, that's why he never remastered the entire thing, I believe he browsed the chans and the comments on the mixtape got to him, I was like 19 when this dropped and it was the perfect time, leaving the edgy memelord weaboo misandric days behind and enjoying life a lil bit more like he did, you can always get drunk and rewatch the vids and the songs tho
I feel this song is more than enough, Joji makes it deeper and more thorough through the melody that makes me go back to 2010 - 2017 where between Joji and the Pink Guy are still in one eye and fight for Joji's name with difficulty. why time flies so fast, i miss everything. love you George!
I remember listening to this on loop on Soundcloud about half a decade ago when joji still went by a different name and I felt certain that he'd be an amazing music artist.
this is really Really GOOD!!!!!! Sad that FilthyFrank is gone, but this is amazing progress! Great visuals too!
This song is really old..
yeah this song is extremely old
This song is 5 years old
Ya, but is this song old? Thanks Internet Police
We're not "internet police", we are just saying that this is not much of progress as of this moment as he has made a lot more songs after this, and this single song made 5 years ago has not made any progress for his music as of this year as this track is nothing like the music he has made recently.
Such nostalgia ✨ I love getting past vibes. Sweet memories every now and then helps me appreciate myself more.🤓
I'm really glad Joji Music is still going
BRING BACK ALL THE GOLD OLD MEMORIES
I’ve been trying to find this song again for years I’m glad to be back fr
This for who doesnt know the real song
"Daughter - Medicine"
Cant believe they didnt credit her... Like ffs people telling the lyrics are good and joji is basically god but that's completely untrue.... IT'S DAUGHTER FFS ELENA TONRA
I know
Thought I recognised it lol
its remixed
@@lookatmyright chill :)
holly fuck this old joji beats take me back when the community was recently figuring out that frank was making music under the name joji, and it’s not just that, but at that time i was going through a lot
and his music help me hold tight and breathe
I’ll always be grateful for this man and the opportunity of wittness him make history
Thank you Joji.
same. both jojimusic and filthyfrank videos helped me through what was probably the toughest time in my life.
I always come back for this one
Omg yes!! At last a music video for this masterpiece
First heard this 4-5 years ago as a franku fan and Joji soon became my one of favourite artists ever which he still is to this day. I'm happy he was able to evolve musically so well. NECTAR is looking to be amazing! But it's always nice to return to these old bangers
How did i not know joji made this masterpiece
when you find out joji is signed to 88rising
Ultimate but 88rising isn't a label
Yes it is.
Remember when there was the rappers react video and the guy behind the camera goes, "Oh, I manage him." to Ghostface Killah? 88Rising is a label as well. They do everything.
IshDat1KiD managers and record labels aren't the same thing
*Rubs temples*
Managers are a part of record labels.
IshDat1KiD I know it sounded like you were using the fact they manage rich chigga as support for showing that 88rising is a record label, I was just stating that record labels and managers aren't the same thing
The original song is super sad its called medicine by daughter but he takes it and flips it makes it chill
It’s been so long since I’ve been just happy.
gold old days
(2000 - 2017) MISS ALL DAYS
i feel that vibe
Before it blows up
ACEE Means Jorge I doubt it

This shit calms my anxiety
I love the song and also the vibe this song has
Up, up, up, medi
Pick it up
Pick it up
Pick it all, all
Pick it all, all
Up, medicine
Pick it up
Pick it up
Pick it all, all
Pick it up, all
Up, medicine
Warm heart, up, all, all
Pick it up, up, up, medicine
Up
All up, medicine
Don't be what you want to
Don't be what you want to
Don't be, want to
Don't be, all, medicine
warm heart sounds like "im hard" which is still beautiful.
It’s “still be what you want to”,
not “don’t be what you want to”
it sound like "One Heart".
thinking of you, taking alot of medicine
Isn't it 'dekinai'?
Still amazing a feeling (this songs)
