The mechanism of this cube is fundemantally a modernized Huachuang (which is the 2-shell design, and approximate similar anchor size, and this stabilizes the cube a lot. The Gan 5 thinned the center stalk and added the ball core, and is much more hollow and therefore light), with slight references to the Bochuang (which is Aochuang GTS/WRM's anti-deforming mech, but smaller) and Wushuang (the corner design, which also carried over to Valk and Hong)
At worlds I tried the 555, uncle gan told me besides all 3x3 upcoming projects, once the 5x5 and the new megaminx are released, they will design this 5x5 to be a 4x4, then after that they will do a Square-1. The Square-1 already has physical prototypes.
In my experience, GAN cubes in general need a lot of break in. Like… hundreds to thousands of solves before they feel amazing. And some just never do. For example, I’ve owned every version of the GAN 11 M Pro. The first one I got was the “soft” coated. It had the most terrible internal lockups from what felt like some pieces not being the right size. The UV version had a similar feeling, although slightly better. The black version was PERFECT for performance, but I’m not a fan of the matte finish. So I put the UV shells onto the black pieces, added the logo-less UV replacement cap, and I have the best cube I’ve ever used. It gets better every day I use it, and it’s already been a couple years. The GAN 12 had major lockup issues when it first released, I got the special edition CHAN version, and it doesn’t compare. I know that many Cubers had the same feeling around the 12, but they must have improved the design after the first batch. Lesson: don’t buy a new GAN until it’s been out for a while and all the kinks have been ironed out, then cross your fingers it’s a good one.
I also have the gan 12,it had really really terrible lockup issues at first , it took like probably like 1000 solves before the lock up issue got fixed. So yea, it does have bad lockup issues but it get fixed with solves.
@@watchman9198 trust me, many have. Me for example, averaging around 12s, already have about 25k solves on my Gan 11 M Pro and I got it 2 years ago, and that’s just from my phone timer app. That’s not even including times from other timers like cstimer, untimed solves, official results, pll and oll alg spamming, OH if you use the same cube, etc. People better, more addicted, and more dedicated than me will have way more solves than mine
im considering getting a new 5x5 and im between the matte version of this and the hong, but i might get this just because it would be funny for my first gan cube to be a 5x5 lmao
The Gan is surprisignly "cheap" for the fact that its a Gan. Their 3x3 are all more expensive lol The 5x5 was also the first cube I went "yo what cube is this" when I first tried it
I am definitely looking forward to trying this, I think when comparing it (as well as the hong) with other 5x5s, it is a much closer comparison when you are considering custom core magnetic options of the MGC and AoChuang WRM, I reckon core magnets simply save me 3 seconds per solve. Ultimately I am not sure whether the Hong comes on top, I will have to try the Gan 5x5 and see if it just outright outperforms the Hong and others. I am guessing Max Park hasn't switched?
I have a question... As a cuber with aggressive turning, should I get the Hong, or the GAN 562? Edit: I'm currently comfortable with 60mm-61mm, but my main is the Valk.
Definitely the Gan, the Hong is great but you need precise turning to not lock up on it. Even better if you’re coming from a Valk! I think Valk to Gan is a way easier transition than Valk to Hong.
I'm not much of a 5x5 solver so I'll prolly stick to the mgc. But they recently teased the 4x4. Now that, Im Hyped for if it's gonna feel and sound anything like this 5x5
I don't seem to get the whole thing with the inners being worse than the outers on the Hong. I've done around 1200 solves on my Hong and the layers feel really consistent and they are both super fast. I don't think I'll pick up a GAN but I do think that it will be good.
When gan or moyu release big cubes it's more obvious they are charging way too much for 3x3s. I'm pretty sure the cost of producing this cube is more than twice (I would say even thrice) the cost of producing a 3x3, but still, the 3x3 is more expensive. I remember when 3x3s where $10-$15 and the firsts 5x5, 6x6, ... where like $30-$40, until Yuxin dropped prices of big cubes by releasing a great cheap 5x5. Now companies, instead of compete by lowering prices, they seem to ally with each other to charge as much as they can to customers, and thats sad.
@@domingoanoite68 no i'm not comparing. i'm surprised to see that gan is using screws for the very first time, or may be in the megaminx earlier...i dont know
