    Best explanation of the bracing being 45 degrees and less being the goal,

    Thank you for your explanation. I see so many people on wide gates going over the 45 degrees and claiming they are no sag gates. And then some that are far less than 45 degrees and was wondering why. I am planning on building a double gate in a 10 foot span in the next couple of weeks with horizontal pickets and you most likely saved me from making the same mistake. I appreciate your channel!

    That 45 degree angle makes more sense to me, than when I was in school. 🤣🤣 however I was planning on redoing my double 6’ gate, because it was weak and already sagging. Thanks for the breakdown and knowledge and now I have you to look forward to in my future projects.

    Now I know why our 5ft. gate started sagging in short order, 1st time fence DIYers and we did pretty good until the gate...Thank You for this Awesome Training.

    I am planning on a 15' section of fence, with a 4' gate, on one side of my house (replacing a chain link with wood). I intend to follow your videos for the construction. I will bolt two 4X4s for the hinge side of gate. I have read that a gate should always open away from public view and into private, however, if I use the double post for the hinge side, the gate will have to open outward not inward. Do you worry about this when you build gates on residential property? Great, informative videos. Thanks!

    Equilateral triangles have 60° angles. I know you meant the rise and run on a right triangle (90, 45, 45) but was confused for a sec

    I understand the example of going over 45 degrees. Are there any pros and/or cons to going 30 35 40 degrees instead of 45 exactly?

      Less angle from 45 the stronger the brace is however depending on gate size you start to weaken the gate due to cantilevered gate past top of brace

    The cut from the open side (latch side) what measurement off the post?

    So the low side of the angled brace nearest the hinges is required to be as close as possible to the hinges, or can it be a few inches away towards the center of the gate?

    What if my dimensions from bottom rail to top rail us 27.5” and the width of my gate is 48”. If I heard you right I would measure over no more than 27.5”?

    • @mrfenceacademy
      @mrfenceacademy  2 года назад +3

      Yes don’t exceed 45 degrees

      @@mrfenceacademy thank you for reply. My first time building one. I never see the braces in the place you describe. They always go diagonally corner to corner. I want to do it right. If I do like you say I’ll have about 15” from the brace to the outside edge of gate over overhanging.

    Yea , weld a steel frame. That’s the ONLY way to build a gate! And better yet use steel posts. Wood warps and twists and is nothing more than a call back and loss of profit!
