Thanks for the inspiration. I am in the process of pruning out my fence line. I will save the wood and use it to make arbors and trellises. Natures way at no out-of-pocket cost!
Thank you for this great video ! You are very conscious and responsible about the land , using all the element to build your arbor and not wasting anything ! I love it , I want to build an arbor for my native Passiflora Incarnata and Lonicera Sempervirens vines I think I will dig in the ground and make it stronger due to strong wind . Thanks great concept , I love your land and again respecting the land and all the life that live on it is the way to go !
Am in the process of re purposing a tree that I had to bring down (growing under my house) and wanted to create a pergola with a fire ring in the backyard. Your video helped because I was trying to envision bringing the limbs together. Decking screws! Good to know. I was also thinking of lashing and did some research finding the right ways to lash and that hemp is the strongest to use. So I feel I'm armed and ready to go. Thanks for posting this!! Great for us beginners! :)
luciahask64 That sounds like an awesome idea! I ended up going back a few weeks later and did some lashing to help the integrity of it. Pergolas are so cool too! I have some plans to build one but just haven’t gotten to it yet. I’d be really interested in hearing how it went! Good luck and ATB
This is a great idea, and it kills me to take all my yard waste to the road to be thrown in a landfill. How long does it last and is there anything you can do to increase it's useful life?
One of the mistakes I made was to approach it like a lumber type build, using screws. Eventually, I ended up taking it apart and using twine and rope to hold it together and it’s still standing. If I were to do it all over, I would remove the bark and wipe the bare wood with boiled linseed oil and notch it together like timber framing. I hope this helps, and I really appreciate the comment. Hope all is well with you and yours! ATB
Very cool little decorative peice there. Does it let the 4-wheelers pass through easily, an dhow long do you think it will last. Really liking the garden too. : 3
Crazyboxhead this one is probably just as wide as our 4 wheeler but it heads to some rock stairs that it wouldn't be able to use. The other arbors I build will be out of lumber and will be a bit bigger. I think it may last about two years or so before I have to make some adjustments. I may go back and use some twine at the corners to hold it together if/when the screws start to fail from rot. Thank you for the comment. ATB
Hi. I like the look of the arbor. What keeps a strong wind from knocking it over? I would have thought you would have had to set posts deep into the ground for stability, but perhaps not? Thanks
Diane Morissette Actually you're right. the next day I drove some short pieces of rebar I had in the ground at each leg and tied it off with some wire. It seems to have worked pretty good so far.
Yes, it did really well for a few months. We had a small family of opossums that decided they wanted to live on it and destroyed it unfortunately, but it lasted through storms and a couple direct hits from falling limbs. Cheers!

Just awesome and exactly what I was looking for!! Thank you. Will be following you 😊

What a great use of the branches you cut! Beautiful arbor! I'm going to try this in the future!
Exactly what we are building tomorrow. Love your style!
Me & Wifey watched this morning. You have her full approval. She says you are very creative.
Adventure Outdoors I really appreciate that, thank you. This was a fun build. Now I just have 5 more to build but with lumber lol. ATB!
Love the rustic look. Property is going to be an oasis.
Nature Calls Backpacking Thanks, it's coming along!

Great idea
Thanks! I’d add rope to help secure it if I were to do it again.
Way to use every part of the tree and create functional beauty!!! Props 💡🙄🌱👊🏻🌏🌳🌞
Teresa Hill Thanks! I ended up moving back in the forest on the trail. ATB!
Beautiful build! Great ethos too❤️ thank you for sharing it.
thank u!! just what i needed to make for my garden! ❤🤘
Awesome, I'm glad it helps. I would recommend using some twine or rope to tie the top corners together for longevity. Good luck!
I like your steps.
Thanks! They have survived all the storms and the chickens like sitting on them 😆
Melly is going to love this one with all the grandpa sightings hahahahaha
Dawn Owens he is pretty amazing. His suspended was a piece of twine he found in the shed......
Man phenomenal. I hope one day I can get out to your property.
nwroadrat you always have a place to stay. There's a ton of awesome roads to ride here too like the Tail of the Dragon
nice little build in da woods :)
dseed norway it was a fun little build. Next time I will use rope instead to attach it all together. I'm. It sure how long the screws will hold
This is a fantastic arbor. Did you support this in the ground? Great , unique original. 👍
I did end up supporting it with some 24” rebar I attached to the uprights with wire. It’s help up pretty great. Cheers!
Very cool!
Sliding garden door??? I want!!!
Nice use of free material.
azdesertdog thanks, not too shabby for about an hours worth of work
Is this still standing?
Could U give us an update as to how it looks now, if it is?
Nice job! How's it held up over 5 years?
It lasted quite a while, until,a raccoon decided he didn’t like it and it came tumbling down
Thanks for sharing!
(The music is a bit too loud when you talk).
Built mine 2 wks ago all purchased was screws my Carlos grapes are Vining up
It was great. The music drowned out your voice sometimes though
Yeah, I’ve gotten that quite a bit for this video. Was still working out the kinks. Thanks for the comment, ATB

@@fireballmalone1 That's the beauty of the self-build project, We learn from the last build. No cost except labor!!

Great arbor! Hard to hear you talking during a good part of it...

@@fireballmalone1 that was what I needed to anchor it... gonna try building this... love it!!!!! thanks for the inspiration...
does it stay upright and supported on its own?
Yes, it did really well for a few months. We had a small family of opossums that decided they wanted to live on it and destroyed it unfortunately, but it lasted through storms and a couple direct hits from falling limbs. Cheers!
Well I was kinda hoping you would show me an easier way then I've been doing it. Someone helping by holding it up would be nice, but not happening.
The music is so loud I can't hear what the man is saying - such a silly thing to do.
Sorry. I was still figuring out the software and it did change the volume of the background music. Cheers
Would have loved to heard your video. Unfortunately your funeral music drowns out your voice. Try again.
Ya know what they say, practice makes perfect
Get rid of the music! Couldn’t hear you. Would love to have seen more step-by-step instructions.
music way too loud cant hear ya
