This week we're trying out the Lighthouse 400 lantern from Goal Zero. This little beauty isn't cheap, coming in at $79.99 but, looking over it's features and usability, I still say it's a good buy.

I have to say I do enjoy having my portable radio. Cant say how many times its been even more relaxing to be in the middle of nowhere with a little connection to the real world amd tunes!
The Lighthouse 400 has a handful of flaws that make it a deal killer:
1) As the video pointed out, the exposed and irreplaceable USB cable. It will break.
2) Lack of red light mode. No good for camping.
3) The USB port is exposed to the elements, has no cover.
4) The lantern has no weather/water protection at all (notice no IPX rating). If you have to walk somewhere under the rain with this, good luck.
5) No magnets in the base.
6) The rechargeable battery is not replaceable!
The lantern has good ideas but were implemented half-way. I would only buy this lantern if all the above was fixed.
Great lantern! My favorite piece of gear to take with me into the woods is any one of my fixed blade knives. I love them all and can't pick between them!
goal zero makes great stuff always wanted this lamp thanks for chance
I really like fero rods, they are a lot of fun in my opinion. Not as easy as a box or matches. But fero rods to me are a really classic and cool way to start fire.
Nice video. My favorite is my Coleman propane lantern. It has served me well camping and during power outtages for many years.
Hand crank feature is why i decided to get this lantern. Cheers!
My favorite item to take camping is my water proof tarp setup. Nice review.
My mora companion with ferro rod in sheath would probably be my most favorite item and necessity to me. Great videos.
I'll go with a tent as my favorite piece of gear to take camping!
Great review. One of my favorite pieces of camping equipment is my Light My Fire Titanium spork. For long trips, I like to bring along the Goal Zero Nomad 7 to keep family electronics charged.
I'm in. My favorite piece of gear is a folding saw. It works great for gathering wood. I wouldn't mind carrying that lantern on my next camping trip.
Awsome lantern, gotta say I know people are going to be saying knife in this comment section. And I would have to agree, my PKS Mountaineer is always on my side and just look for more things to do with it.
I think my favourite camping item, would be a torch or lantern. Pretty hard to deal without them.
I take my force protector FOR46 Hybrid Deployment Bag with me on trips. Sometimes I just have spare outfit, some snacks, and a first aid kit in it and I can use it as a large backpack when needed. Best camping buddy I've ever needed.
Mora companion is my go to piece of gear when hitting the woods.
This light i have is good at like our biggest sun. I call my lantern a star cause it project light everywhere in my bedroom. I use it for nightlight incase I wake up at night or need to go to work.
It's totally not essential for survival but my favorite thing to take camping are my usb rope lights and batteries. I set up multiple ropes on switches for outside and inside the tent.
Cool lantern. I want to be entered. My favorite piece of gear to carry when outdoor is actually a good flashlight.
Love taking my 40 year old Coleman gas lantern when we go camping.
Neat lantern. I hope I can win it. One of my favorite things to carry when backpacking is a ferro rod.
I carry a boys axe with me as a camping axe. It's my favorite piece of gear to take outdoors.
