    l'd prefer the look of the Porsche myself but it's all academic really. l just want a decent electric 4wd ute to replace the really good diesel 4wd ute that l drive every day.
    The great thing about this is that the EV manufacturers have comprehensively proved that electric cars are the future. There is no longer any doubt that evs can be reliable, safe, fast etc.
    Weight ? As battery technology improves those batteries are only going to get lighter and cheaper. Viva the revolution.

    • @starpawsy
      @starpawsy 9 месяцев назад

      Whilst all of that is of course true in theory, what is the reality? LIthium battery technology has been around and been developed for over 30 years now. By your own admission, and putting a number on it, battery energy density is going to need to improve by a factor of about 3X for your dream to be true. After 30 years development, do you really see that happening? A factor of three?

    • @billhill4479
      @billhill4479 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@starpawsy Although lithium technology was invented a long time, it wasn't utilised for years because there was no real need for it. There was also very little money put into research for a long time. Eventually digital music players came along as did phones. All of a sudden new battery technology had a market. Since then, investment in battery research has taken off and we are now starting to see the results of that come to market. E.g. ln the past year both CATL and Amperex have released batteries that are nearly 500wh/kg. Close to double the best that Tesla has. Also in the past year battery prices have almost halved . The battery technology revolution is upon us.

    • @starpawsy
      @starpawsy 9 месяцев назад

      @@billhill4479 All that is good, but since we're making a wish list, there's more. You're going to want 150kWh in about 150kg and maybe 150 litres of volume of battery to get roughly - very roughly - the same performance and range as a big tank of diesel. You're going to want a high charging efficiency so you can do a full charge at 300kW (and that's still half an hour or more for a full charge) without boiling the electrolyte, so in that 150 litre volume and 150kg weight you're probably going to want to fit in water cooling. You're going to want to be able to charge from nearly 0% to nearly 100% to actually make full use of that 150hkWh. You're going to want low degradation so your battery will last say half a million km. You're going to want some changes to the electrolyte and whatever other chemistry so that thermal runaway is simply not going to occur. And finally, you're going to want all of that at some kind of price that's cost competitve in terms of total cost of lifespan, and can be produced by the tens of millions without having to look for toooo exotic materials in "difficult" places.
      That's a pretty big wish list. And you're going to want ALL of that in the ONE battery. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that that is currently unachievable in any reasonable timeframe.
      Time will tell. I have no horse in this race so I'll watch from the sidelines. I'll believe it when it actually hits the mass market and not a moment before. I've got maybe a couple of decades of life left in me, so I wont live to see that magic battery.

      20 cm should not weigh 1100 lbs,the problem with ev world is that there is none perfect one in the market i think if evs dont start to improve their battery tech and with this much weight penalty they will loose their market share very soon,i think tesla will be next nokia in ev and automobile world,tesla would be a winner if no one else manufacured evs,but thongs have changed from 10 years ago,things will be very difficult for tesla in 5 years because they dont have really high tech battery tech at all their 4680 cells with all that investments has 244 wh/kg energy density at the time that LFP battery cells have 250 wh/kg energy density and semi solid ncm batteries with over 350 wh/kg availabke right now,so tesla invested so hard in 10 years old tech which they cant improve at all,BYD should work on their ev platform to reduce the weight by at least 30 percent because it is achieveable other wise they wont survive like tesla in next 5 years@@johnsmith-cw3wo

There are plenty of manufacturers who can deliver that power from an ICE, and a car that weighs a lot less than this one. The weight is too much. Should you be unlucky enough to be in an accident with one, it will likely wipe you out, and your family as well. This is a huge amount of kinetic energy.
