When compared to Scarlett 2i4, Scarlett 8i6 features fewer physical controls located on the front as it utilises Focusrite Control for access to features. This seems unneccesarily complicated to me. Mine was running fine until a few days ago. Now, I can't get rid off my guitar sound through input 1-2 being played twice: Directly via hardware inputs, and then the delayed signal via playback 1+2. How can I fix this nightmare?

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  10 месяцев назад

      The first thing you can try is navigating to file---> restore factory defaults which will undo any changes you may have made to your routing. If you are hearing your input twice, that means you are likely monitoring both in your DAW and in Control, you can either disable input monitoring in your DAW, or lower the faders for the desired faders in Focusrite Control. However, we recommend monitoring directly through control, because this will result in minimal latency. Please let us know if this helps or if you have additional questions.

  • @Marvid
    @Marvid 2 года назад +6

    for the monitoring, i use the direct monitor but then mute the dry signal in the daw when i apply fx. that way i hear the wet signal with whatever fx i applied and the lead is still latency free because it's direct vs through the daw

    I have the 6i6v2 and use a M-Audio 61 via USB to hub, my 6i6 is USB to the hub. For music production everything is fine. Both PT and Studio One get all of the inputs and outputs. However, when I'm trying to practices with other musicians, none my keyboard is heard over Jamulus or Skype or Messenger (although i can hear it in my headphones). Analogue 1 & 2 inputs work fine (using a bass or guitar). However, I don't with to do MIDI from the M-Audio to the Scarlett as its meant to be USB connected. Ideas?

    This has been very helpful, but I'm still confused about one thing. I have a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 connected via USB to a Macbook Pro, with Focusrite Control and Pro Tools First installed there. I also have a Roland Boss GT-1 effects pedal which is connected via USB to a Windows computer with the output from the GT-1 connected to Input 2 on the 4i4, set to INST. (I also have a microphone on Input 1, which seems to work fine). So, with headphones connected to the headphone output on the 4i4 and output routing in Focusrite Control set to Custom Mix, HW Inputs 1-2-3 and Software (DAW) Playback 1-2-3 with 2 in Stereo, I can hear the guitar on the GT-1 and any audio playing on the Windows PC (which loops back through the GT-1), but I can't hear any audio on the Macbook, either from Pro Tools First or, say, from a RUclips video like this one. What am I missing? Is this tied to the Loopback settings in Focusrite Control? I've tried both SW Playback 1-2 and 3-4, that doesn't change anything. Or is this something mis-configured in Pro Tools First? Thanks.

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  2 года назад +1

      Hi there! It sounds like something may be misconfigured in Focusrite Control. Did you set up the Custom Mix on the headphones (output 3-4)? You should be monitoring SW playback 1-2 *and* HW inputs 1-2. If you're still having issues with this, please reach out to Support at bit.ly/FocusriteSupport.

    I need an audio interface to use as a live keyboardist, and I'd love any feedback on whether a 4i4 would fit my need...
    Here's my scenario: I'm running virtual instruments inside of REAPER on a laptop, with a MIDI (USB) keyboard controller. I need the interface to take in an external monitor feed from a mixer, pass it through only to my headphones (not to the main outputs), and have my virtual instrument audio feed out to both the external mixer and my headphones. So my headphones are getting a mix of the external monitor audio and my keyboard audio... and the external mixer is receiving only the keyboard audio.
    If I understand correctly, I could take the external monitor mix into Inputs 1-2, and send it only to Outputs 3-4 (headphone bus), muting them in Outputs 1-2. Then send the virtual instruments to Outputs 1-2, which will go to the console, as well as 3-4, which will feed headphones. I can adjust the balance between the monitor mix and my virtual instruments using the output faders in Focusrite Control.
    Is that all correct?

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  2 года назад

      Yes, absolutely. In theory this is all possible with Scarlett 4i4. You just need to route the monitor feed to Playback 3 an 4 for your headphones mix. As this will all be routed through REAPER, you could also mix levels there.

For the Scarlett 6i6 2nd generation, the two headphone outputs are automatically routed to digital outputs 1+2 (headphone 1) and 3+4 (headphone 2). So if you want to hear something in both headphone outputs you will need to send the signal to both 1+2, and 3+4 in your DAW. And also: assign an incoming signal from the daw to the compressor and the eq inputs, than their outputs to two different outs so that I can separately mix them in the daw.

    Question: While using 80's csette tape machine going into an 18i20, I lose all control of the tape machine, basically bypassing the hardware. What needs to be switched on to have the machine act as mixer? Simple example, I turn up my hi eq gain knob on machine, no effect in audio from speakers (through DAW).

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  Месяц назад

      Specifically what kind of cassette tape machine are you using? How are you currently connecting? Scarlett can accurately capture and convert the signal from your cassette tape machine, allowing you to record it in your DAW. With the master stereo output from your machine connected to inputs on 18i20, you should find that changes made on the machine are captured.

    Hey I know this was uploaded a while ago, but I have a question I hope you can answer. I just got a nice pair of headphones that need EQing to sound their best. Can I add an EQ to the output for, let's say, Headphone 2 so that anytime I put on those headphones, that EQ is automatically added? So far I haven't been able to find a way to do 3rd-party plugins within Focusrite Control.

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  10 месяцев назад

      Focusrite Control is exclusively designed to control output routing and settings on our interfaces. It is unable to perform any sound processing (such as EQ) to avoid additional CPU usage, and latency when recording. If you want to EQ your output, you can either add an EQ to your master output track in whatever DAW you are using, or use a third-party solution like the one available to Windows users in the article below. Please let us know if this helps or if you have additional questions.

    I have an 8i6 3rd gen. How do I properly set it up to run hardware fx? Right now I have it on output 3+4>hardware>input 3+4. The issue I'm having is that I'm getting the fx on all the channels instead of just the one I'm using the external effects device on in Ableton. Also, is there a way to decouple the output 3+4 from the headphone out on the 8i6?

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  9 месяцев назад

      With line outputs 3 and 4 connected to inputs on your external hardware and the outputs from your external hardware connected to line inputs 3 and 4, you can route the channels from your DAW to outputs 3/4. In Focusrite Control you can then route software playback 3/4 to line outputs 3/4 and the signal will be sent to the external hardware. The headphone outputs always carry the signals routed to analogue outputs 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 respectively (as stereo pairs) in Focusrite Control.

    I am recording drums with the Scarlett 18i8. I am using all the channels with the following configuration: CH 1 - Overhead 1, CH 2 - Overhead 2, CH 3 - HH, CH 4 - Kick, CH 5 - TT1, CH 6 - TT2, CH 7 - FT, CH 8 - Snare. Because the OH's and HH need phantom power for their respective condenser mics, they must be in Channels 1, 2, 3. The recorded volume of the kick compared to the snare is staggering, with the kick volume being a lot higher, even though I have the volume the same in Logic. Same with the toms--really low volume compared with the kick. How do I control the output/volume of channels 5-8? Of course I can crank them on my DAW (Logic Pro), but I need more juice on those channels. There must be a way. Nothing online seems to address this issue. I've been playing with the Focusrite Control and even with cranking the volume for channels 5-8 doesn't give me the juice compared with channels 1-4. Any help you can offer is most appreciated. I must be missing something. Again, I have the volumes for channels 5-8 cranked on the Focusrite Control but it pales in comparison to the volume of channels 1-4. I really need the snare volume to come up especially. The mics I'm using are all the same level mics by Audix. Please help. Thanks.

    I recently purchased an 18i20 (3rd Gen). I would like to monitor my recording from my DAW and not through direct monitoring. Everything I've read or watched from Focusrite shows how to turn direct monitoring on but it does not show how to turn it off. I'm trying to record a guitar through input 1. According to the manual and the videos, if I leave input channel one unmuted, I will hear the direct monitored signal. I would assume from that that if I mute channel 1, I should hear the output of channel 1 of my DAW, with the effects assigned in my DAW. But this does not work. I am still hearing the direct signal even with input 1 muted. What am I doing wrong?

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  10 месяцев назад

      To disable input monitoring through Focusrite Control, you need to find the faders for the inputs you wish to not hear, and lower them for the output that you are monitoring (1-2, 3-4, etc..). Once this is done you should make sure that "input monitoring" is selected for the same track in your DAW (This is done differently based on your DAW) and you should be able to monitor your track with all included effects. Please let us know if this helps or if you need additional assistance.

      Hi Jim, this all depends on the device you have, and whether you refer to the input or output section. For example, to add more analog input channels to your custom mix in the output section, click the + symbol next to the faders. In the inputs section, only the variable gain analog inputs will be shown (e.g. only 1-2 for the 4i4 device). Come to our tech support team if you need any further help with set up.

    I have a Scarlett 18i20 and an scarlett octopre attached to that via adat cable. 2 questions.
    why does my focusrite control app only show 8 inputs, when it should be 16
    and why does channel 1 on the octopre begin at channel 11 inside my DAW and not 9? i would think 8+8=16 so i can use channels 1 thru 16 in my daw- but its confusing because i have to do 1 thru 8 and 11 thru 18
    thanks for any help!!!

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  Год назад +1

      Sorry to hear that you've had problems. Have you added the additional ADAT inputs within Focusrite Control?
      To do that, set your output source to "Custom Mix" and then add in the ADAT channels by clicking the "plus" symbol.
      When working with our audio interfaces, the channels used by inputs will vary. Loopback and S/PDIF are often staged before ADAT so these inputs will generally begin at 11/13. The chart provided on Page 13 of the Focusrite Control user guide provides input numbering -

    So, I just got a Scarlett Solo and when I go to output routing it says "not supported on this device." Does this mean I can't change any EQ settings through the Control software? I can't find any info on how to change EQ levels with the Solo. Please help.

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  2 года назад

      There is no output routing on the Solo because these devices only have two output channels and stereo playback from software on your computer will be automatically routed to the stereo outputs on the interface.
      Input EQ won't be set using Focusrite Control. It will most likely be controlled with a plugin on your DAW. Some other 3rd party apps, such as OBS, also have some rudimentary EQ plugins. To change output EQ, such as headphone EQ, you'll also use a plugin or software such as Sonarworks.

      Outputs 1 and 2 are generally used to drive the primary monitoring system, though the signals available at any of the outputs can be defined in Focusrite Control. The main monitor output level control is an analogue control that adjusts the level at Outputs 1 and 2.
      Outputs 3 and 4 can be used for driving alternative speakers (i.e., midfield, nearfield, etc.), or to drive outboard FX processors. The output level for these outputs can be controlled using the Focusrite Control software.

    When I launch Focusrite control, it says no device found. I have a 2i2 studio 3rd gen. Everything works perfectly in Logic and the OS, not sure why it says that since it's working. For live recording is possible routing 4 headphone independently with scarlett 18i8?

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  2 года назад +1

      No. Scarlett 18i8 has 2 headphone outputs that always carry the signals that are routed to analogue outputs 5&6 and 7&8 respectively as stereo pairs in Focusrite Control.
      You can run 4 separate mixes from the 18i8 3rd Gen from outputs 1-4 and create custom mixes for them all in Focusrite Control. The 1/4 inch jack outputs on the rear of the device are designed for connecting speakers (they're mono, so one speaker per output), not for connecting headphones. If you're happy with mono mixes for two of your headphone channels then you could look at connecting the outputs on the rear of the 18i8 to a headphone amplifier in order to then drive your headphones properly. Alternatively, if you need stereo mixes, our Scarlett 18i20 has 2 headphones outputs and 10 line outputs, so you could use 4 of those outputs with a headphone amp to get a further 2 stereo headphone mixes if needed.

      Are you referring to the variable gain controls? Unlike volume controls, gain is adjusted using analogue pots which can't be controlled via software. Focusrite, can you please release an update patch that will let us control the output settings for the Scarlett Solo and 2i2?
    I've been going crazy for months trying to figure out how to separate my monitor output from my headphone output so that when I'm working in the night, only I can hear what I'm doing and I don't have to bother my family who is trying to sleep.
    For the past year I have been trying to figure out how to mute the monitor outputs so that all the audio going out is coming to my headphones only, it is really annoying that the only way for me to work quietly is for me to manually take out the cords plugged into my interface for the monitors only to have them be plugged in in the morning or afternoon when it's ok to have a bit of noise around the house.
    I really don't have the money to go out and spend more on one of your more expensive interfaces just to I can be able to do that. I honestly consider that a waste of my time and money seeing as that would literally be the only reason I'd actually have to buy a new one.
    I have no problems with the interface thus far, my last interface was a Steinberg one and it was piss poor, because I had no knowledge in music production, I never realized it was broken since the day I bought it and once I did, it was literally two years later and my warranty was out. The guy at Long&Mcqaude literally told me the bad reviews about it and that it would cost less to get the Focusrite Scarlette which is much more reliable (he was right.) So here I am a year later recording with not issues other than the fact that I can't turn off my monitor output while keeping on the output going to my studio headphones.
    Please, from your fellow customer and supporter, please fix this issue as I'm sure many beginner producers like me are probably scratching their heads trying to fix this issue themselves not realising that it's a issue that currently isn't fixable..

      Thanks for your feedback. The features that you're describing are available for all other devices in the Scarlett range. Scarlett 2i2 is the smallest model that features a separate headphone output with independent level control. As they're the smallest models in the range, when working with both Scarlett Solo and 2i2, all available outputs are physically located on the hardware itself - no additional output routing options exist, so that section of Focusrite Control isn't able to provide access to any additional output routing options.
      Scarlett Solo has just 1 stereo output, accessed from both the headphones and main monitor outputs and controlled using the same main monitor control. This is the smallest model in the range and the only model to not feature multiple independent outputs, I'm sorry if you had not been aware of that before purchasing. I'm not aware that it is possible to add additional outputs using a firmware update but I will certainly share your feedback with the development team.

      Specifically which audio interface do you have? How had you hoped to use Focusrite Control? The larger devices in the original/1st Gen Scarlett Range (from 6i6 and up) can be controlled and managed using Scarlett Mix Control, available from the 'Downloads' portion of our website.
      The smaller devices in the original/1st Gen range don't have any features that require software like Focusrite Control or Scarlett Mix Control so won't be detected by these programs. They're plug-and-play on Mac, as they use Apple Core audio. This also makes it possible for these smaller Scarlett audio interfaces to successfully stream audio to/from iOS devices, providing they are supplied with adequate power.

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  3 года назад

      When Direct Monitoring is engaged, the input signal is routed straight to the output, so you certainly shouldn't be encountering any noticeable latency. Please discuss this with our Support Team, they can troubleshoot this with you and identify why you're having this issue - bit.ly/FocusriteSupport

    • @FocusriteHelp

      That's perfectly normal for Scarlett Solo as it has just 1 stereo output that can be physically accessed from the hardware. Additional output routing options don't exist for that particular model.

    But why does 2i2 not have custom audio routing ?

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  2 года назад +1

      That's because Scarlett 2i2 just has 2 outputs that are physically located on the rear and a headphone output located on the front. No other output routing options exist, unlike the larger devices in the range.

      @@FocusriteHelp thanks. I tried to use my 2i2 for in ear monitoring. The 2i2 works but I’m also using it as the interface to get my vst sounds from iPad to the mixer. The xlr monitor input (input 1) still goes back out of the main outs. I tried using direct monitoring hoping it would send the feed straight to headphones without going through the main outs (R,L).

    • @harold12A

      I wish there was a video on using the focusrite for in ear monitoring in a band setup. Perhaps if I had the 4i4 I could send the IEM feed to input 1 but set it to output through output 3 or 4 where there’s no cable connected and then use the direct monitor button to send it to headphones.

      It seems that whatever changes and configurations I make do not happen within the software and then I'm confused and wasting time trying to figure out why nothing's correctly happening.
      And to make things simpler, the routing for the main stereo output (1-2) and each headphone port should already be configured. I shouldn't need to setup the basic routing configurations.
