17:47 this is my favorite combo ever. I understand is god on this track but it’s so glaringly different from every other commonly used combo for wr runs
It takes a lot of inside-drifting, mini-turboing, low-jumping, shortcutting, and perfect top tier character-vehicle combos with pure skill, confidence, unique strategies, and Mario Kart momentum to become the G.O.A.T. of surpassing even the most impossible 200cc time trial world records! Every world record is satisfying to witness for all tracks, especially the most absolutely busted shortcut world record on Rock Rock Mountain!
So if you want to know some more things : Streetle and landship are very useful or tracks with a lot of water, snow and ice. So that's why on dolphin shoals both ccs sherbet land 200 streetle is used, same for cheep cheep Beach. Slims tires are used for most speed tracks. Also the combo can change depending on the surface i think, some uses blue falcon, gold kart, standard kart, prancer for that reason. The snow land 200 combo is a mix of high mini turbos stats (baby character) with more traction (cushion tires). Cushion are also very useful for rock rock moutain because more air speed. And you can compare varmint with wiggler and teddy buggy, they have pretty much same stats. Babies are only used on tracks where you can chains mts, do snaking. Baby characters can charge mt faster and the boost is way longer. If gliders are too long ( mario kart stadium bowser's castle type of gliders) babies will not be faster. But gliders such as twisted mantion, cheep cheep Beach are not very long so babies are used there. If you do the same video for 150cc World records you will understand my point. Also most of world records uses rollers because better tires on this game but some uses leaf tires because leaf tires have higher speed in antigravity sections. So Wario and dry bowser are used basically for speed tracks or sometimes like peach gardens for higher speed + good mts because biddy buggy. But Waluigi and Roy are used for higher mts than dry bowser and Wario. Bowser and the other heavyweight characters are not used often because their stats are worse. Same for characters like Toad toadette dry bones for lightweight class and characters like mario Luigi peach daisy and the others. Also for most tracks you will see cloud and paper glider over others because better stats. Standard glider, Wario wing and gold glider are basically used for most speed tracks. I hope you understand what i said here. The game is pretty difficult to understand when you play casually because of différents combos etc.

It’s so fun seeing all the variety between the speed run builds. Also, seeing heavy characters squeeze between the track building up purple mini turbos is crazy. Seeing the lighter characters boost through levels with so many mini turbos is also sick. Love these speedruns!
Being French, Roundabouts feel like such integral parts of the road system, I can think of 10 round abouts in my average size city alone (and there probably more I just didn't think of from the top of my head) Which is why I'm surprised to hear they are so few in the US
33:45 this record is from a guy using a slight top speed hack, it's not super noticeable but that's why he beat the other records by such a large margin even with sloppy gameplay. It hasn't been deleted by Nintendo yet for some reason.

Really happy of u making a time trial video, I enjoy time trialing in this game and pretty funny to see u react to u seeing these weird combos that are viable! Mushroom gorge uses yoshi because its the easiest for fence strats and yoshi having a ton of handling stats
I didn't know how much hopping can help you redirect your drifting. It can kinda "stall" your direction so you don't hit the wall, which is something I need to do more often
That Mario Kart Stadium WR definitely is an hacked one. The real one is supposed to be a 1:07.271. This one seems to be speedhacked hence the very bad driving
30:09 Actually, this is a new tech that has been found like three months ago. This allows you for some reason to make your boost when tricking way longer. I'm not an expert on this by I'm pretty sure there are videos about this on RUclips.
hopping is usually good since it allows for shroomless cuts, and sometimes its at a start of a track that has a shroom at the start because it gets more speed for some reason. i hold twisted mansion 200cc wr and the track has multiple hops because for some reason hopping on the staircases gains time. inside drifting bike is used there because of the glider mostly. if it wasn't for glider there would be a potential for outward but inside drifting bikes work better on almost all turns
I think the fact that this track 12:22 is one of peoples favorite is because its so simpelistic like we have so many different hard tracks to understand that this one is actually something different what people like. i think thats my favorite track off wave 2 aswell tbh
16:30 i'd argue they actually matter more since speedrunners have to take each stat into consideration and test several combos for each track to see which is best suited for it edit: 32:56 even stuff like the vehicle's hitbox is being considered here, insane
Hey Troy, the dimension warping thing is actually due to the trick boost. You can see that whenever the trick boost happens, it shoots the vehicle super fast to the left.
Something with the Wave 3 150cc world records is that in Berlin Byways, the runner tricks off of the surfboard car, a first for any car track in this game. Also, I think coins make watching almos all these world records more fun. Lap 1 is almost always different from laps 2 and 3.
For hopping into cannon gliders, the reason it’s faster is because your glider comes out slightly faster than if you trick because there’s no trick animation
MK8 Time Trials are awesome with how much variety there is in vehicles. Waluigi Wiggler/Biddybuggy w/ Roller is used online because it's good all-around for every situation, but when you're optimizing for only one track, there's a lot to consider since vehicles have 4 different speed stats for ground, flying, water and anti-grav. There's no reason to care about anti-grav speed if the track you're playing has no anti-grav parts for instance, and if you're playing a mostly underwater track like Dolphin Shoals, you want as much water speed as possible. Likewise, tracks with lots of turns like Waluigi Pinball will prioritize mini-turbo, while tracks with few turns like Moo Moo Meadows will prioritize raw speed. I'm sure there are a ton of other factors the top runners consider when choosing their combos that I'm not even aware of. It makes for a really cool meta compared to other Mario Kart games. edit: another thing I just realized is you want a high traction vehicle for slippery courses. Traction is often ignored by most players as it doesn't have a super-strong effect compared to other stats most of the time, but if you're trying to take the tightest lines possible, having good traction helps, hence why the Snow Land WR uses parts that all give a traction bonus.
Totally right about MC3. I personally love it because it is a blast to drive on, especially 200cc. Not to mention the music is and always will be amazing.
“alberto and army hold like half the records” alberto and army are top runners in the community. a lot of new records are them beating each other. theres other notable runners like technical, but technical usually runs specific tracks. mostly the rainbow road tracks i honestly think combined alberto and army hold more than half the records
The fact that Troy doesn’t know all the vehicle frame names honestly hurts my soul. As a kid who played with really all the frames I thought even the Master of Mario Kart would know all the know all the names
38:06 thats called a JenZua glider, the player jenzua found it, you basically get a speed boost by being sideways while gliding (which is faster in mk8dx). recently its also been found to work on merry mountain by alberto
16:32 In Fact, it does. It just is that the combos are optimized in every stat in these World Records, so it always just is the best possible combo every time, which can be very different from track to track.

31:46 This is called an "airhop" (pressing R/ZR after releasing a miniturbo after a ramp), it straightens your alignment and gives you a bit of a boost to your forward momentum. Saves .2-.3 here, which I think is more than any other application of that tech! You shoot *so* far forward with it, it's crazy
Tip if you get a purple (ultra) mini turbo before a glider ramp it is faster to not trick, ex. The long turn before the glider at the end of electrodome
The coconut mall motion glider part was insane, I thought there was a wall on top of the parking, very surprising to see that this track is still broken more than 15 years later

It's so cool to see all these tracks optimised, but I didn't really think that I learnt something out of these. There always is something that I didn't know about the track that I could do. The actual track where I learned the most from that I saw the world record of is from MK7, Mario Circuit 2. My favourite track aswell. So it's not really from this video, but I thought it would be a good place to say it nonetheless. The world record on the track is so broken, but so cool at the same time, check it out I would say. This video was entertaining for sure, have fun!

hopping is usually good since it allows for shroomless cuts, and sometimes its at a start of a track that has a shroom at the start because it gets more speed for some reason. i hold twisted mansion 200cc wr and the track has multiple hops because for some reason hopping on the staircases gains time. inside drifting bike is used there because of the glider mostly. if it wasn't for glider there would be a potential for outward but inside drifting bikes work better on almost all turns

I think the fact that this track 12:22 is one of peoples favorite is because its so simpelistic like we have so many different hard tracks to understand that this one is actually something different what people like. i think thats my favorite track off wave 2 aswell tbh

Hey Troy, the dimension warping thing is actually due to the trick boost. You can see that whenever the trick boost happens, it shoots the vehicle super fast to the left.

Something with the Wave 3 150cc world records is that in Berlin Byways, the runner tricks off of the surfboard car, a first for any car track in this game. Also, I think coins make watching almos all these world records more fun. Lap 1 is almost always different from laps 2 and 3.

MK8 Time Trials are awesome with how much variety there is in vehicles. Waluigi Wiggler/Biddybuggy w/ Roller is used online because it's good all-around for every situation, but when you're optimizing for only one track, there's a lot to consider since vehicles have 4 different speed stats for ground, flying, water and anti-grav. There's no reason to care about anti-grav speed if the track you're playing has no anti-grav parts for instance, and if you're playing a mostly underwater track like Dolphin Shoals, you want as much water speed as possible. Likewise, tracks with lots of turns like Waluigi Pinball will prioritize mini-turbo, while tracks with few turns like Moo Moo Meadows will prioritize raw speed. I'm sure there are a ton of other factors the top runners consider when choosing their combos that I'm not even aware of. It makes for a really cool meta compared to other Mario Kart games.
edit: another thing I just realized is you want a high traction vehicle for slippery courses. Traction is often ignored by most players as it doesn't have a super-strong effect compared to other stats most of the time, but if you're trying to take the tightest lines possible, having good traction helps, hence why the Snow Land WR uses parts that all give a traction bonus.
Totally right about MC3. I personally love it because it is a blast to drive on, especially 200cc. Not to mention the music is and always will be amazing.

alberto and army are top runners in the community. a lot of new records are them beating each other. theres other notable runners like technical, but technical usually runs specific tracks. mostly the rainbow road tracks

38:06 thats called a JenZua glider, the player jenzua found it, you basically get a speed boost by being sideways while gliding (which is faster in mk8dx). recently its also been found to work on merry mountain by alberto

Saves .2-.3 here, which I think is more than any other application of that tech! You shoot *so* far forward with it, it's crazy

It's so cool to see all these tracks optimised, but I didn't really think that I learnt something out of these. There always is something that I didn't know about the track that I could do.
The actual track where I learned the most from that I saw the world record of is from MK7, Mario Circuit 2. My favourite track aswell. So it's not really from this video, but I thought it would be a good place to say it nonetheless. The world record on the track is so broken, but so cool at the same time, check it out I would say.
