I used to have Our Generation dolls. The quality of American Girl is superior. But, with Our Generation, the quality is great for the price. This is a great comparison. I will admit that I have some American Girl dolls that have very thin wigs. Some dolls have difficult hair to take care of. Evette’s hair is more difficult to take care of. But, she’s so pretty. The curly hair is hard to take care of. But, I like the dolls with straight hair. I don’t like plastic shoes. Years ago, I used to wear designer clothes. Now, that I am addicted to American Girl , I wear inexpensive clothing and shoes. But, if American Girl is going for a younger demographic, they should get the historical girl back and clothing/collection. The quality of American Girl went down. I got into American Girl during the pandemic. There was nothing else for me to do. Now, I am totally addicted. I am not one of those wealthy people who should be buying these dolls. If anything, I should have My Life As dolls. But, I have become such a snob about my dolls and what they wear. I live in an inexpensive place and drive an old car. I guess it’s like the people with less money wearing designer clothing. Only thing is I don’t show off my dolls. Because, nobody in my family, except my aunt who is no longer with us likes dolls. My family knows that I have dolls. But, not how much I spend for them. I am not in the mood to be judged. So, I have the doll community on RUclips.
I like how dolls have stories. I have 2 antique dolls that I use American doll clothes to update them. I absolutely think your grandma was wonderful. She absolutely loved you so much.💖
Wonderful comparison video! Personally, I'd just save up for American Girl. Because even though the other dolls are more affordable, American Girl is a luxury experience that totally worth waiting for 😊
Dolls on the go sent me from Instagram 💝 You’re gorgeous! And I love your adorable personality! Great video I can’t wait to get my hands on Maritza I love the way you have Evette styled. Give us more 18inch doll content pretty please! 🥰
I was into American Girl since 2006. I grew up low income at the time but had several as a gift from my grandma. People assume I wasn’t low income but that American Girl doll every Christmas was my only toy of the entire year. I was on hiatus from 2009 until February 2022 due to academics. I’m exploring other brands as they didn’t exist in my childhood. Lately, I found New York Doll Collection City Girl which is the same quality as American Girl for $50 on Amazon. I will say some people probably won’t like the face mold but I think it’s super adorable. I recently discovered from another channel the American Fashion World Dolls which are similar to American Girl and New York Collection City Girls for $50 on Amazon. Lately, I am just trying to explore other brands that didn’t exist during my childhood that would have allowed everyone equality no matter the income. I had no friends with 18 inch dolls to play with and honestly kinds don’t care about brand but socializing with friends in common playtime toys.
As I don't live in America I like to buy Our Generation since they are the closest thing I can find and they are not that expensive. Although, ever since I was younger I have always wanted American a girl doll and I always used to watch videos to do with them. American girl dolls are way too expensive but amazing quality and looks. Our generation, are cheaper and not as good quality but are good for children who don't want to collect dolls and preserve them or parents who don't want to look after the wigs of American girl dolls. I have 2 OG dolls and they are so cute!
Yes I live glitter girl dolls I was lucky to find my green/teal glitter girl for 14 dollars on Amazon but truthfully would have paid higher she’s so pretty. I always wanted an American girl doll but knew better than to ask my parents, my cousins had them but they were so high priced it was never going to be something I would own as a kid. I got into collecting because I watched my world unbox the 1980s Courtney. It’s only been since 2020 kind of needed a hobby during the pandemic and bam now I have 13 AG dolls, 3 Disney Ily Dolls, 3 glitter girl dolls, Rainbow High collector, and many more. This was a great video just recently subscribed because of Rachel from Dollsonthego. Have a great day💖🦄🌈
So much thoughtfulness and insight in this video, wow. Funny this ended up in my timeline now, I guess that’s a good thing! I enjoy your delivery style and your personality 😊 For me American Girls are 18” fashion dolls, to redress and style. Growing up in Canada decades ago, we didn’t even know about AG; so I didn’t develop the attachment to the historical characters. I came to American Girl being a former avid Ellowyne Wilde collector, that was eventually priced out of today’s crazy collector market. I see a similar level of quality between Tonner and AG especially for the outfits. Tonner is still better quality for the dolls themselves. But I’m having a lot of fun with AG dolls, and collecting past outfits. You can easily get pre-owned complete AG outfits for less than $20, especially the more common ones. I love their wigs and styling their hair. I’m slowly reading the books and getting to know more of the history (living in the US for the past 15 years, I think it’s time I get to know AG better!) There is currently a big hole in the doll market for 16”-18” fashion dolls. 12” dolls are nice, but 16-18” are so much more fun to handle and play with for adults. And I’m saying that as someone who owns over 150 Barbie outfits and over 60 Barbie dolls. Once I got a taste of playing with a bigger fashion doll I was HOOKED. now I only collect in-box Barbie, as I don’t play with them anymore. I love the World by Us collection and found it was definitely a step in the right direction. I thought they were selling well, but I guess not since AG seems to have abandoned them. I have Maritza and Evette, and I need to get Makena before they end up retiring them. All three dolls are so full of personality just looking at them, compared to many of the other dolls/characters. I bought my Evette pre-owned, needless to say her hair was already destroyed. I think an Evette with intact hair will be worth a lot of money in the future… Also just want to say your grandmother sounded like an amazing woman to play AG dolls with you growing up! None of the adults in my life wanted to play dolls with me. I’m sure you treasure each and every one of those moments ❤
I agree about Evette with good hair being valuable in the future! I’m thinking about getting another. I also agree there is a huuuuuuge gap in the market for 16” dolls. I’ve got tons of Tonner’s and Disney Limited Editions. They’re honestly my favorite! Have you seen the new Ellowyne?? Or her new friend ( I can’t remember her name.) Maybe I need to get one to review!! They’re amazing. I feel like one even had flat feet
We only have the og dolls and designafriend dolls in the UK. The delux dolls like willow retail at £45.00. The non delux around £30/33 and same for designafriend friend. Can only buy them in smyths or argos. So wish we had a target Not sure why they are more expensive. I do love the og dolls though. And the latest designafriend doll candy is a gaming doll with pink hair and headphones.
This was such a great video. Very informative to parents and very personal to see your side of collecting. For me AG is definitely because of the family connection and how it brought me closer to my kids and realizing my own love of dolls. I started collecting in 2016 with my youngest Ryder. And we have such amazing memories and even though they outgrew them they gave me the gift of collecting dolls. Sadly I have really strayed from AG I don’t care for the direction they have taken I think Mattel is more in it for the money than the love of history. I will collect but on a smaller scale now. I think OG is a great doll for young kids you can’t beat the price. Thanks Matt love ya ❤️💋
Oh my goodness I was just playing around on RUclips and came across a catalog of all my doll videos and being into doll already I thought it was fascinating that there were guy doll collectors and when I saw Molly McIntire I was hooked she my favorite and now I have over a 100 AG dolls in keep up the great work you fabulous
Awe yayyy!! I love Molly, she’s the most iconic American Girl in my opinion. She’s my gramma’s fave and definitely my favorite movie! I still cry when I watch it 😂
I have all kinds of dolls. I gave many away to a doll store and to goodwill. But then I just collect new dolls. I have a big collection of Pullips. I started rainbow high collection with series one. Now am on series 4. I started LOL in December. I save dolls at goodwill just depends on what they are. I am trying to put my daughters Barbies on made to move. That is a big project. So if I give them away, I just get new collections. Go figure. Ps. The Glitter girl is cute. 💖
I currently feel mixed on OG and AG. My first Our Generation doll was a Kendra doll that I got to customize into Pirate Percy from the Candle Cove Creepypasta, and my favorite OG doll that I own is probably Sabina because I love her art theme, glasses, and long red hair. I got a bit turned off from OG dolls when they changed the face sculpt though, because I much prefer the Classic, Lake, and Melina face sculpts while I can't stand the new one for some reason. I do get the outfits occasionally though. As for American Girl dolls, I feel that they are a bit overpriced for what you get, but the clothes and accessories are superior. I also hate the mouths on American Girl dolls, so the open mouth face sculpts are a huge turnoff for me. I miss the more Historical American Girl dolls and the older ones are very nostalgic for me though. Felicity was my childhood favorite.
I collect OG dolls in the UK. I love your collection. As for quality I think there the same because its a matter of opinion. AG has buck teeth to me OG has a better mouth. Hair is better on AG but I like eyes better on OG. Price is better on OG and price is to high on AG. Its tit for tat. You want to enjoy your collection and thats all that matters.
I would say start with checking places like facebook market place for “fixer upper” dolls, that way you can make it a fun event as well as teach her how to care for her doll ❤️ Then get OG outfits! That way AG outfits can be a special surprise still.
The OG brand is honestly really great though. There are tons of different dolls, but they lack the mobility to become a “favorite toy” for a kid. I will say however, their version of wellie wishers( theyre called glitter girls) are soooooo much better and more affordable. Maybe start there! You can often find them on amazon for around $15. Theyre super durable and have great diversity! The hair quality is great as well.

Such a helpful video, and you’re very enjoyable to listen to! Thank you!
Planning on getting both my grand daughters their first OG for Christmas. Now I'm excited. Thank you
Awe yay!! My niece got an OG last year for Christmas and hasn’t put it down since 💗💗

Interesting... had no idea adults were collecting these!
Yeah there is quite a community of adult collectors including me! I love AG

I wonder if your Martiza has stained lags cause her lagging can cause that. The one I have is fine, but that's just luck on my end.
I know this is an older video but if anyone is still wondering about hearing aid holes need to be permanently placed in dolls ears.
