It’s a shame that he’s using quartz movement that cost about $10. Since he’s in Japan, he could buy either Hattori or Miyota movements for not much more. Heck, the Miyota 6T15 (mechanical) only costs $50 and has a date function.
I was thinking exactly the same thing! A mechanical movement would be the perfect complement to his work, and would add a touch of authenticity. It could, for example, offer both versions. Quartz and mechanical. In any case, her work is rare and remarkable! Watching him work is a real pleasure.
Should not the title be, “10,000 handmade watch CASES have been created.” ? Beautiful cases, and I second the thought that it would be nice to see a mechanical movement residing in the cases.
Really fascinating and enjoyable video. Sadly very few items are hand-made with such care anymore. The website shows quartz movements, do you also use mechanical movements?
Watch fans are interested in the movement, case material, brand, and history. For ordinary people who consider watches to be a matter of fashion, it's all about whether the appearance is to their liking. Even if the movement is inexpensive, a quartz movement is sufficient as it doesn't break down easily and has better time accuracy than an expensive mechanical watch, and is also easier to use. It would be a big mistake to criticize the work of this store owner from a watch enthusiast's perspective.
@@Himgallery There are €15 watches for that. In the case of the watches in this video, people are looking for real added value, handmade, authetic. An automatic movement seems to me so much more in keeping with this concept. It could offer both versions! For me, putting a quartz movement in watches is like putting margarine instead of butter in a cake, putting a Renault Zoé electric motor in a Meserati, varnishing a Stradivarius with marine varnish, putting tap water in a Pétrus... There's something about it that breaks the magic.
@@ericouicestmoimeme A Seiko or a Miyota automatic movt wouldn't make the watch any more authentic as they aren't handmade either. Quartz movts are as much a part of horology as any mechanical movt. The only reason he is able to produce these watches with really unique designs is because of the existence of such movements. And not to mention keeping the price affordable despite being a handmade product.
Jolie façon de travailler, bravo ! Dommage que ce ne soit que pour des mouvements à piles et non des mouvements mécaniques... Bonjour de l'Aveyron (France) 🙏💐⌚🇫🇷
Dismissing the man’s craft because of your predilection does both yourself and him a disservice. He is an artisan who is able to craft whimsical pieces because of the freedom these small quartz movements allow him. Plus he is able to keep his prices extremely reasonable, they all appear to be under $250 on his website! Besides Omega, Breitling, Tag, Cartier and others all use quartz too, there is nothing wrong with quartz and this is an ideal use case for it
Los relojes son lindos pero quizás algo caros ya que llevan movimientos de cuarzo. In that range of prices starting at near 160 U$S up to 250 U$S i was thinking that you put automatic MIYOTA movements and not quartz movements.
I have gotten interested in watchmaking last year and would like to learn this art. Unfortunately there are only 4 watchmaking schools in Japan and none of them are close to where I live.
I thought at the beginning of the video that he made the watch by hand, but it turned out that he only made the watch body and the strap. The unfortunate thing is that he burned the watch face and wrote the numbers on it by hand. What is this...

Yes too much money for a simple quartz watch and without a stainless steel cage.
I thought the same thing. No point in making a hand made case for such a crappy cheap movement. His cases deserve something better and mechanical.
どんなモノにも製作者の魂が宿ると思うけど、製作者の魂の琴線に触れるコトが出来たからこそ、このモノのユーザーになれるのかもしれない!
and all without a magnifying glass.... Fantastic..!
Give him time.
I loved shop !!
Nice job
Greetings from México !!
Very satisfying to watch a master at his craft. Great video about a noble subject.

Well without the case, a movement is just a movement.. whether it is mechanical, quartz or digital module.
Хороший человек🙏
Although there are so many tools and parts his work shop is always in apple-pie order.

A Seiko NH34, 35 or 36 movement costs around thirty euros.
@@ericouicestmoimeme most ordinary people really hate mechanical watch. they want a watch that can tell the time ...

I'm interested in the appearance of your watches, but maybe some mechanical movement would be more attractive.

Best take on this comment section.
Spot on my friend. Quartz is absolutely perfect for such cases. I wish to one day visit his atelier and purchase one from the collection.
@@sibinesharul I agree! Even had he not been a watchmaker I still think I would enjoy his shop and his personality… maybe one day
Best watchmaking video ever!
Beautiful.
