RIP Leon.... I was playing this festival and got to speak to Leon for a minute before this set. He was a living enigma but a wealth musical history and was a true modern day vaudevillian. He brought historically important music and theatrics of the early 20th century to generations.
i was workin in stockholm and one free day i went walkin...i found myself in a small record store and i ( casually of course ) was lucky to purrhase 2-3 of his products in an lp form...on second thought i love you all (sound good by accidental care and love for B.H. )
Someone mentioned "Just a Gigalo" below but I couldn't reply b/c the post was too old. Here's a little tidbit I learned. Just a Gigalo is a different song from I Ain't Got Nobody. The great Louis Prima combined the two and recorded it in 1956. That's why a musician's musician like Leon Redbone would play one of the original versions independently.
Can anyone help pls? About 3 or so years ago their was a clip on you tube of a much younger 'his truly' playing 3 songs in a row, the last of which was 'i ain't got nobody' ....what a performance too! Then one day the clip vanished - gone. I keep checkin-in to see if it's been re-posted, but nay. Could someone pls offer an explaination as to why it would've been scrubbed from you tube and as to how i might somehow track the footage down. Gert thanks!
@WolfeBear It looks like a sunburst Gibson CF-100, which he's known to play. He played what looks like the same guitar on Ditty Wah Ditty on The Tonight Show some time earlier. The guitar he's playing on Ain't Misbehavin' on SNL looks like a Martin, probably an 00 of some sort. He's holding a different smaller Martin, a 1-21 on the cover of Up a Lazy River, but I've never seen a shot of him playing this in concert. He's used a similar Gibson F-100E (with knobs) and another Gibson w/o a cutout.
Brian Farquhar His life seems to be a mystery. I have read that he is originally from Philadelphia, some say Canada another source says Canada via Greece. I think that he want there to be some mystique to his life and persona. His real last name sounds Armenian.
He was truly a great - and I appreciate the audio post BUT for Pete's sake the visual performance is ruined by rank amateur camera work - put the bloody camera on a tripod or some other stabiliser when you use a zoom - its that simple.
Old timie corn ball. It was a nice simple act. Not difficult but just nice to listen to. I prefer the originals on old time 78's, but he was a good show. Sweet simple playing and a Rudy Vallie era mimic. A pleasant act....

Hev has a great sound
If I remember correctly he also did a dog food commercial for Durgers and Bones😊
Big Bad Redbone!
An American treasure. Let's hear it for immigrants!
He isn't American. He lives in Toronto, Ontario and came from Cyprus.
Brian Farquhar His life seems to be a mystery. I have read that he is originally from Philadelphia, some say Canada another source says Canada via Greece. I think that he want there to be some mystique to his life and persona. His real last name sounds Armenian.
He was born in Cyprus in 49
Yael Li-Ron So this is why we should celebrate immigrants? Get your priorities straight....
Immigrants are great for America. Just keep it legal, processed and above board. You know, ...like all other immigrants since the Civil War.
Thank you v much to 'comicfarside' for his/her's most-helpful two-pennith.

more of that guy, like a ya know, feel 1920tie's somthing?
Hold on a minute. There is a ball made for the corner pocket.
Did he make a practice of using a compressor/limiter all the time, or was this unusual?
Because he's that "cool".
GROSSO MAESTRO!! thanks
shutup and just dig it
Talk about a dad son event.
Does anyone know if he tunes his guitar up a step or is it standard tuning?
I think it's tuned so that when he plays a "C" chord it plays a B-flat so it's tuned down. Hope that helps.
Swinging around a lamp pole ten shots of scotch into another lonely city drunk...
There's a dude in the back, trying to break in that sliding glass door. He's gonna steal some shit. call the cops.
@anthonypepitoneVideo Hum, its about the artist and the music, Duh!!!!!!!!!
what is this woman doing back there
as i asked before and will ask again & again until someone gives me a conclusive answer
is she part of his plan?
de qué año es esta presentación???
Film the left hand next time!!!!!!!!!!!
@breedeviant Because hats don't age.
I want him to do the beginning of this song. Just a Gigolo is one of my favourites, and a full vocal would be awesome. Love Leon though.
They are two different songs. Louis Prima combined them, apparently.
Where he is these days guys? I heard he quit singing for some reason. Please let me know if you are aware....
+Alex G Good ?
+James Wright Good what?
+Alex G , I wondering myself where is he? I heard Leon is ill. Hope for the best.
James Wright I have no idea where he is. But he is (was) very good musician and I like his songs. He had certain charm I think.....
Not performing anymore due to health
my grest uncle wold clean him up. He had, I have, chords that would be a mystery to this guy.
My favorite !!
he's like the dick clark of ragtime.lol
You're drinking the wrong stuff
Alcohol is a good preservative
because hes petrified
