Very sweet playing Rick. This is the first time I've tuned into your channel and I'm glad I did. I'm interested in getting a Fallout so your channel came on the scroller so I brought it up. It's so nice to hear playing that isn't head banging shred fest . Between you and Jonathan Koh I believe I'll get a Fallout by summer. I'm subscribing for I want to hear some more of your playing as well as your insights on guitars. Thanks and take care.
Thank you so much for this kind comment. I hope you enjoy the channel. It's mostly about instruments, amps, pedals, tone, riffs, pets and my band. Peace!
I do wish the reverb and delay were dialed back just a bit to show the sound of the guitar itself just a touch more, but great playing and awesome review. I've had one of these for a few years now and it's one of my most played guitars. You've got the guitar / neck combo I was looking for, but the shop was out of stock and the white w/ the Brazilian cherry fretboard they had in stock just played too well to pass up on. These guitars fly under the radar, but they sure are sweet.
Thanks for the feedback. I like reverb, so I do tend to get carried away. Of course this was from a while back. I'm better at the audio now. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I have a Danelectro 64xt (lipstick humbucker in bridge, P90 in neck), have you played one? Would you say they are comparable at all? I'm considering doing an even swap for one of these Fallouts. The Dano squeals too much in the bridge position when the gain is cranked, also not a fan of the sticky glossy neck on the Dano.
I appreciate this video. in most videos people post of 'reviews' or 'demos', they just play a bunch of scales or nonsense. instead, with this video, you made actual music with the guitar, both when accompanied and not. insightful comments as well. Have any of your impressions of the guitar changed since this video? I had little interest before this in a fallout, but the sounds you got and your opinion of the guitar are very appealing. Do you see any practical advantage going with a fullerton made over the tribute? i'll be looking for more of your playing.
Hi Bjorn. Thanks for the kind words. Sorry to say, I sold the guitar a while back to fund another purchase. I don't remember the details. It wasn't because I didn't like it. I just saw it as non-essential. I liked everything about it, especially the neck pickup. It was good for dropping tuning in a pinch because it was very stable with a regular scale length so the strings didn't get floppy. It was nice and light. I'd like to try a USA version. I'd probably keep it. Thanks again!
Great review with some nice tones! Do you recall if the neck may get a little sticky due to the lacquer? I had to get my Squier Classic Vibe sanded down because it was so annoying and I hope this one doesn't suffer from the same issue. Thanks in advance!
Hi Wess. I don't ever remember this being an issue. I have sold the guitar. I never sanded this neck while I sand my Strat necks all the time. My Les Paul is also sanded. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hi Rick, great review. I liked the old review, too. :) My lallout tribute just arrived today. What a great guitar. Did you encounter a problem with the nut, too? On my guitar the high e-string is closer to the edge of the fretboard than the low e-string is so that wenn playing d-major or dsus2 it's very easy to push the e-string off the fretboard. When I look at the nut, i can see that the space between all strings is the same except for the space between the b-string and the e-string. It is a little wider. Maybe have to replace the nut. Would be interesting to know if this problem occured on another fallout, too.
Hi JT. Sorry I missed this comment until now. That sucks about your 1st string. The nut on mine is cut well. I hope you can get it sorted out. Thanks for watching.
Very nice playing! I just found your channel as I’m interested in this guitar. I have a couple questions. How does the quality and tone of the this guitar stack up to higher end guitars you’ve played? One of my concerns is with cheaper guitars is that they sometimes lack a kind of tonal depth and complex can come across sounding a bit thin. I constantly hear that these tributes are “outstanding for the money”, and to be honest I have a hard time understanding what that means, because comparing it to other guitars in this price range is not the same as say a Les Paul standard... I really like the idea of the guitar, and also the design, but I’m on the fence because I’m concerned about the tone sounding a little thin, or the quality of it. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks for the nice comment. It's better than a $440 guitar but not as good as a $900 guitar. These pickups are the same design as the US version. The wood is good and the bridge is fantastic so I see no reason why it should sound much worse than the US version of this guitar. It feels and sounds more Fender than Gibson so if you like that, it's good. Outstanding for the money might mean that these guitars are consistently good. Other bands in this price range are not as consistent. Also this guitar feels really good to play. Thanks for watching.
@@RickRomanelli Thanks for the reply, it's very helpful. I'm actually looking for something in between a Fender and a Les Paul, which is why this model caught my attention. I was looking at the version of this guitar with the mahogany body and rosewood (now Brazilian Cherry I believe) fretboard, as Les Pauls have the same materials, but it's good to know that it's more Fender than Gibson... I suppose I just need to try one in the flesh. I have a G&L Rampage from the 80s, and that guitar has the Fender thing going on, but is a little darker sounding than the typical super strat, I'm guessing due to the wood. I actually love the design of the Fallout, and really like the bridge design.
I almost bought one of those from Full Compass , they had a whole bunch of them made in orange and they went on sale before I knew it they were gone ! (Cheap sale price ). Your playing was great !
Hi Rick! It looks like you cherish this Tribute Fallout. Have the same one, I love the sound and the looks but honestly don't love the neck that much. It's not that comfortable, maybe too thick for me... Anyways. Would you recommend replacing the neck? Any profile neck would you recommend for an upgrade? Strings gauge? Maybe another tip? Thanks, greetings from Chile
Hi Jorge. I did cherish this guitar, then I sold it. I don't even remember what I bought when I sold it but I think it was a PRS SE Singlecut. I liked the Fallout but I never took it out to play at gigs because there was always something that I liked a little more. I would like to try a USA Fallout to see if I love it. I love my other 2 USA G&Ls so I probably would. The thing I liked about the neck was the big jumbo frets. I don't know a lot about replacement necks. Why not try? You could see if G&L sells USA necks maybe. I used 10-52 D'addario and Elixir on that Guitar. It always sounded fantastic. Did you try to get a professional setup? Sometimes I just can't dial it in myself so I send it to a tech.
My niece has a Duo Sonic SS and I love it. My only issue with the Fallout is the bridge pickup is a little too hot for me. It would be a tough choice. Probably the G&L but sometimes Fender makes a real gem. Thanks for watching.
Awsome guitar. I had one similar back in the late 80s. Had a birdseye maple neck. Took it in on a trade . I'll see if I can find a picture. Look out for an email

Did you eventually fix it? Truss rod adjustment or did you loosen the neck plate screws and tweak the neck? The usually fixes that.

the music store here sells a lot of G&L guitars. that is a nice one. that P-90 gives a nice sound. wow... together, both pickups sound great together.
G&L is one of the few companies that has great pickups on their lower models. I could be wrong, even PRS puts mediocre pickups on the SEs.
