I’ve done R2R 3 times - but never in a single day. I’ve hiked quite a few GC trails in the last 8 years. My goal quickly - by year 2 -. Went from proving I could DO it, to spending as much time as my family will allow me to BE in the Canyon. I have no desire to day hike the Corridor. And, I consider the round trip to be significantly life threatening at my age. To each his own. But thanks for the tour of the state. I often wonder what the trails beyond the Canyon are like. 👏
Now, off to continue flatlander-training for my next 6-day Canyon adventure in March 2025. Solitude, silence, and magic beyond the Corridor. So much Canyon, so little time.

3 suggestions: Ridgeline in Superstitions (point-to-point - Carney Springs to Flatiron/Lost Dutchman Park or reverse). Loop Weavers Needle from Peralta TH (up Peralta, around Weavers, down Bluff Springs). Another day hike in Superstitions with 3 points of interest - up Peralta to Fremont Saddle, left out and back to Robber's Roost, back at saddle go to Lone Tree, then go down Geronimo's Cave trail to Bluff Springs trail. Of the 7 you listed, I've done 3: Humphreys, Flatiron, and SK-Phantom-BA (Rim-River-Rim :-) ). Thanks for sharing your adventures.

I grew up in Kingman and so we frequented the Canyon a lot. My eighth grade class took a hike down the south kaibab trail to cedar ridge and back. It was my first time that deep inside the canyon, but the hook was set. My wife and I are doing some major prepping and we are planning to hike the south kaibab to phantom ranch and back up bright angel next year. We have a long road ahead of us getting ourselves in shape for it, but I can hardly wait to do it.

There is a way to make the Wrightson and Mt Lemmon hikes more challenging. For Mt Lemmon, start at the esperero trailhead and go over Cathedral, then down to Romero Pass and then up, this way you will hit the highest point in the Catalinas as well, it's really hard

Those would be some tough routes for sure. Thanks for watching!

Did South Kaibab-Phantom Ranch-Bright Angel Trail two weeks ago. Had gorgeous weather, made it not so difficult...except for that last part after the 3 mile rest house.😬

I've done 2 of these : Grand Canyon SK to BA, and Superstition Flatiron. The GC hike is one of my all time favorite hikes next to Mnt. Whitney. I did it on June 23, 2007, in 12 hours. The temperature at the Indian Garden ranger station was 120º at 3 pm. I drank 7 liters of fluid. I also did some minor hiking in Organ Pipe Cactus. No major trails or significant landmarks, but simply interesting desert landscape, fauna and flora. I ran into a young big horn sheep, a baby tortoise, a tarantula, and a standoff between a rattlesnake and a jackrabbit.

Thanks for watching and commenting. We did Mt Whitney the other day and working on the video now that should be posted in the next couple of days. It was awesome!

The Flatiron trail in Superstitions is gnarly. I didn't know what I was getting into. It certainly has a variety of landscapes and views, but eventually turns into a bushwacking nightmare. The trail gets progressively steeper and less like a trail, until it becomes boulder and tree branch climbing, and navigating by trail markers painted on the rocks. Eventually the last 20 feet or so are vertical. I was tempted to turn back several times, but was embarrassed by the young kids climbing around me. The view at the top is definitely worth the climb, but it helps to be aware of the struggle and mentally prepared.

To be fair, it's not Flatiron trail, it's Siphon Draw trail that takes you to the waterfall and then you scramble to the Flatiron from there. It has a reputation because it's often lobbed in with popular class 1 and 2 day hikes and people aren't prepared for the scrambling and class 3 territory. Also, it's a wilderness, so you won't see cables or rails on exposed sections.

That's a really nicely done video. Great scenery, but also the data on the actual hikes and the Google Earth views are super helpful. Thanks for taking the time!

Planning on trying the Mt. Baldy trail for the first time this August. I love how you have the topographical maps to show the trails! Have you ever tried the Nankoweap Trail in the North Rim of the Grand Canyon? Just came back from there although we didn't go far down into the canyon because of the summer heat.

there are many much harder trails in grand canyon. also the view of flatiron does not worth the effort

Rim to Rim to Rim is about as hard as it gets! We thought the view from the top of Flatiron was awesome and worth the trek.
