You guys should do an episode with a blind pour of one of your 90’s, 80’s, 70’s, 60’s etc spirits, and see if you can maintain consistency by putting them in the correct order. Doesn’t even have to all be whiskey, you could do Tears for one, Dewar’s in another, Bradshaw bourbon… doesn’t matter, just see if you can repeat your scores blindly
Must have been a long day, you guys forgot to read the label 😅. It's not just MGP, it's a blend of KY, TN, and IN 😉, just like most Barrell Bourbon blends. Kinda odd to compare it to Smoke Wagon.
Very little has caught my interest or I have been let down by most of the offerings in the last 2 years so I will make it a point to check this one out. Also consider a new T-shirt, Curiosity Public-Rock Hard DOINK!
You guys might want to check out Stellum black for sure. I just got it and its awesome. It rivals Calumet 16 in my opinion. I agree that Barrell sucks in general but dudes you gotta at least try it. I lf I had a spare bottle I would mail to you actually but I dont think I m going to buy another bottle simply because I have plenty of others to get through in my collection
Haven't bought the bourbon but I've really enjoyed the rye. Only $44 and at a solid 116 proof. Nice oily mouth feel, minty but seems to have a lot of barley too.
The regular Stellum is also a blend of MGP, Kentucky, and Tennessee. It's the 36% rye, the 21% rye, and the 99% corn mashbills from MGP, all about 4-6 years old. The Tennessee (probably Dickel) and the Kentucky (probably Barton) are older and blended in. The black label just swaps the 4-6 year MGP for 6-8 year MGP.
I agree with the flavor and aroma notes, but I actually like that it isn't fruity/jammy. I don't want all my bourbons to taste the same. I also didn't get any ethanol on the aroma, but maybe my nose is scorched.
I thought I watched a video a while back were Dillon said if the honey component comes out in a bourbon it’s a definite winner? Maybe buy him a case of jams:)
About what I expected for Stellum, but would be interesting to see this blinded against other distilleries’ barrel proofers, like Knob Creek 120, Rare Breed, or ECBP. I can’t imagine that it would do well.
Why is Dillon so against this "honey" note when he constantly obsesses about "jam"? In response to his honey argument... If you miss the jam, go drink some jam!
Or need oak? Or need spice? It's not like the other bourbons on the market which is why Dillon ranked it low on uniqueness. He is definitely operating on a higher plane than we are!
I was very excited to try this when It first got released, but it ended up being one of the only bottles I regret buying. I couldn’t even drink it in an old fashioned.
I hate all those categories. Aroma and flavour accounting for only 30% is so unfair to the spirit. Something like uniqueness impacting the whisky’s score completely deflates the weight of your opinions and makes it hard to take anything you say seriously.
@Curiosity Public, Honey count: Dutch - 27, Jules - 11, Dillion - 27
Awesome
Some good bloopers today between "burbum" and "ROCK HARD silver"

Really enjoying the channel. I don’t think Dillon was hugged enough as a kid. 🙂
it’s easier to ignore, than argue with Dillon. Nice review!

I killed the Stellum pretty quickly, and also a big fan of Barrell products. Just wish the were 50% cheaper. Great review!
I like this bourbon. Initially I was reluctant to buy it as I'm not the biggest Barrel fan but, I really enjoy this for a good price. Great reviews.

Why is Mr Dillion always so angry?
He cannot convince the free thinkers to drink his Kool-Aid

I recommend trying to find the stellum black label bourbon. It's a blend of Kentucky, mgp , and Tennessee. A review would be awesome. Cheers 🥃

Dillon didn't drink the spirit. And Dutch was drowing in honey. Leaving only Jules as the only member not disqualified from this tasting. 🤣

Trolling He be TROLLING!
Oh no - not the New York rooftop/Yucatán honey reference again… pouty boy is ready for a nappy-nap.

Personally the only one that would compete with that is rare breed
When you guys score value do you use msrp or what you guys/the market is paying for it?
Great question. We try to factor in both.
According to Jules, he bases value as if every bottle is gifted to him.
Don’t worry Dutch, I always accidentally spill my whiskey when I pouring on my glencairn glass. 😅
Laughed so much. It is a good pour

While Dillion wasn’t very funny in his ball busiting, I agree w his comments. You can’t go say something is shallow and complex. Bad Dutch lol
Honey is complex.....to produce, lol!
Since when does bourbon necessarily need jam? Lol
Or need oak?
Or need spice?

This is like The View for whiskey
I find smoke wagon is usually peppery, not my favorite jam...
I was very excited to try this when It first got released, but it ended up being one of the only bottles I regret buying. I couldn’t even drink it in an old fashioned.
Rock On 🥃
DRUNK!!
But awesome
Smoke wagon is 10000% better. I don't get the interest, Stellum is average on its best day. Not sure how you mess up mgp.
By mixing it with Dickel.
You guys should try to film when Dillon's not having his period.
Dillon is on drugs. I think that he doesn't care about the whiskey, he just likes to argue.
Trainwreck for sure 😆
Rocking Hard that Honey!!!! Cheers

This stuff is meh and overpriced for what you get. I'll take Barrell's one-off releases. And the bottle design sucks.
I really liked the rye version. Bests Pikesville and can easily hang with Rare Breed rye.
