That moment in the last chorus, when he opens his eyes, before 'night'... It's painful to watch. But the beauty in the voice... Why is there so much beauty, so much exceptional art, born out of pain and sadness?
Kurt joked about asking David Geffen (Geffen Records) to buy him Leadbelly's guitar for $500K in 1993. The guitar Kurt is playing sold at auction for $6M in 2020.
that's what it is to be depressed; you can have it all and want none of it.
And never be happy that you have all of it.
Kurt was very humble, I think such an intimate venue made him nervous.
Stunning performance, showing the pain and angst of Cobain's own life in this song.
It has been mentioned that this is a cover of a song. The song has several versions, besides Kurt’s version, the most famous is of course, Leadbelly’s version.
In American culture, especially in the 1950’s , earlier, coffins were generally made of pine. A simple “pine box” often refers to coffins. Also, in the language, earlier, “to pine” for someone meant that you missed them to the point of sickness. “What is wrong with her?”, “Oh, she is still pinning after him”.
If this was my last song and performance before I died I'd be satisfied. Thanks Kurt.
He died just 5 months after this recording. RIP Kurt.
I still miss him
Love this performance. ❤
The ledbelly version is amazing too
I am a huge Nirvana fan!! Listened to them growing up and have been able to show my daughters while they are growing up!! Of course they are Fans now as well. To be able to deliver such emotion through music is truly a gift and Kurt definitely had it. I enjoyed the reaction!
Agree with you about the song's evocatively dark sadness. It's strange how many people so who were so incredibly talented ended up putting themselves where the sun don't ever shine by their own hand.
Beautiful song, a cover song. Most of the songs on that unplugged show were covers. Gave a great insight into Kurt's taste and influences. The Bowie song, The Man Who Sold The World, was the highlight of that performance.
OMG YALL MAKE ME FEEL SO GOOD
and seem so musically knowledgeable👍🤪im hooked & stayin'❤
And now, this very guitar of Kurt of the unplugged concert is the most expensive guitar in the world :)
yeah, for real.. it sold for 6 million dollars, i believe...
@@timlenard1646 That was the first auction. "Kurt Cobain's guitar from Nirvana's iconic MTV Unplugged performance sold at auction...for a record $6 million. The previous record was $3.95 million for a Black Stratocaster owned by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour." (Source: Rolling Stone, 2020). It was subsequently sold again: "The ultra-rare acoustic was purchased, with a bid of $6,010,000, by Australian businessman and RØDE Microphones owner Peter Freedman during the Julien's Auctions Music Icons auction held in Beverly Hills, CA. Mar 28, 2022". Sounds like investment buyers, so who knows how much more it will bring over time. I wish someone who loved and respected Kurt / Nirvana would buy it, but that's probably wishful thinking.
Not to mention, his green cardigan, which he is wearing in this video, sold for $334,000 in a 2019 auction at the New York auction house Julien's - it was the second time that the sweater had been sold.
My name is Ed, living in NJ USA and love watching videos with you both. Andrei I particularly enjoyed hearing about your girlfriend that loved Nirvana.
The best description of Kurt's voice i ever herd was he sounds like a wounded animal
It's very interesting to watch your reactions. I feel like one can see Dominika thinking, catching every little nuance in the music and the lyrics, while Andrei is more in his feelings. Yet when it comes to their commentary, it sort of evens out. Anyway, as Andrei might say "I don't know, I don't know" - I just think this couple has a remarkable and beautiful connection. That said, another excellent reaction. Music is almost the only thing keeping me going; I do suffer the "daily drudgery of depression" and have for almost all of my life. Another artist you might want to check out is Chris Cornell, specifically "Seasons" - live (acoustic) on YT. Or the official video, but I tend to prefer live performances. Also his cover of Prince's "Nothing Compares to You". He is another who took his life. Unrelenting depression is brutal - but these are beautiful performances. Best wishes to you both, kf.
Has anyone mentioned that this song is from the early 50s recorded originally by Lead Belly? "In the Pines". This isn't Nirvana's original. The pain in the song, as one can imagine, is what (I'm sure) touched Cobain. It can be interpretated in many ways IMO. Great reaction.
Yes everyone knows that, and it's been mentioned numerous times when mentioning Leadbelly's guitar!
Good commentary and dialogue on this performance!
I remember watching this the day it came on MTV, and it left me haunted and impressed, and I ended up appreciating them all more than I did initially. It was a shame this was right near the end.
Clinical depression sucks. I'm surviving it.
Not to mention his marriage and struggles with drug addiction.
Always nice and good reaction from you. Love from me to you ❤️
First time i saw u. The girl understand everything, every word, every emotion. Guy a bit naive, we are with u buddy. We are ronantics... Dont believe the bullshits..
I follow you from Brazil! I love your reactions! keep up the great content.
Changed my life!✌🏻❤️
The 500g's guitar story is funny lol. Concidering the Acoustic he's playing there went for 6 mill😁

I am a fellow Washingtonian as Kurt.Their first concert was about 20 mins from my home and about 3 mins from where I worked.
im from Seattle and they did do it for me, good honest reaction
Yep, got this cd too. 😊❤
He was suffering mental health issues on top of being addicted to Heroin which is horrible. And some people end their lives as there is no hope! It can get very bad messing with that stuff. You realise you will never be as happy and also you suffer a lot. It takes a toll whether you are on it or sober. As one will slowly kill you and the other will make you wanna rip your hair out. I guess there is hope to some degree but it can be very hard to see that hope. And some people which are not mentally strong will break!
Classic!
I first heard this song by 'The Four Pennies' from 1964. It was called 'Black Girl'.
😊
Veddy nize....Veddy nize
Notice that he plays left handed with an upside down right hand guitar. Like Jimi Hendrix.
Hello Andre & Domiqua, sorry if I got your name wrong, That was a great show and RIP Kurt Cobain 2/20/1967 - 4/5/1994 with Pat Smear on Guitar also
90s Rocked it...😂
only a couple of bands rocked in the 90's
Maybe "react' to the performance instead of passing judgement on a musical Legend
Some brilliant mtv performances knocking around on RUclips land ...pearl jam (black). Alive in chains (nutshell)..stone temple pilots ( plush) .plus many more x 😊
Very nice reaction me myself i have a problem with this song and Something in the way i dont get it!
Nirvana lendas do grunge
Kurt was so uncomfortable being praised and idolized. He is disconnected from the "star" image that is imposed upon him. That comes through in his voice and songs, that he embraces humanity without having to embrace every human individually. The stardom pressure and pedestal that Nirvana was place so quickly gave him a PTSD from the culture shock, of being an introverted young man thrust into fame X 100.
That Cardigan sweater went for alot of money
Sold for $334,000 in a 2019 auction at the New York auction house Julien's - it was the second time that sweater had been sold. Sorry if my comments show up more than once. Unless you sort the comments by "newest" a lot are hidden. Relatively new issue...
Love your reactions! Please listen to Kaitlin Butts version.
At this point, he was completely devastated by heroin. He could barely look to someone, his eyes were completely lost.
OVERRATED
