  • PDF documents are a common file format found on nearly all websites, yet create multiple accessibility barriers for people with disabilities. While PDFs themselves can be made accessible, the simplicity by which PDFs are generated and a lack of accessible authoring practices result in multiple digital barriers.
Knowing where PDFs exist in your website environment is a first step towards understanding how to prioritize a document accessibility strategy. Website scanning tools, such as Siteimprove or Screaming Frog, can spider through your website identifying where documents exist. Documents flagged as not accessible can either be removed from the website or remediated using different applications, including Adobe Acrobat Pro or Equidox.
This session will share strategies for identifying existing PDF documents, prioritizing which documents should be remediated first, and the software applications and techniques to fix PDF accessibility errors.
