    Am i the only one who saw it to be related to centre of mass?
    At first i felt m.x should be a special named quantity,bcz well lets say two pt masses m1 and m2 move towards each other by distances d1 and d2.
    Then, if m1d1>m2d2:
    The com will shift in the direction m1 moves
    If m2d2>m1d1:
    The com will shift in the direction m2 moves
    If m1d1=m2d2:
    The com will not shift at all despite both the bodies moving
    So m times x holds a deep significance indeed, and should have been a special physical quantity with a special name, but there is no physical quantity with dimension M1L1T0
    Then my thoughts shifted to weighted mean.
    Bingo.
    Com is the weighted mean of masses over distance.
    I guess this is the origin of the term "weighted" mean.

    • @lordexplosionmurder1760
      @lordexplosionmurder1760 2 года назад +2

      Well, as he said, the weight will nearly always be in the form of a percentage or frequency, so the “x” will just be the other value.

    • @erincampbell2284

      arithmetic mean is the average for a sample /population. weighted mean is the mean of a data set where each value does not hold the same relative importance ( or weight)

    Isn't the weighted mean equal to the mean?

    • @melonxvi
      @melonxvi 10 месяцев назад

      no weighted mean is associated to some sort of frequency or percentage, so directly adding them up and dividing by the total wont give you the correct answer. you have to multiply all the weighted percents/frequency with the values given then divide by the sum of the weighted percents/frequency.

    • @rainsmush
      @rainsmush 2 года назад +1

      by this time you may have understood but,
      it is because
      that's the weight (w) and X are the numbers we have to multiply with to get their WEIGHTED mean
      wx+wx+wx
      "the points" or X will be of no importance we don't multiply them with the weights, or hours; calculating the weighted mean hope that makes sense.
