Man I wish i liked sf6 more. Id say its objectively better cause of better matchmaking but none of the character clicked with me so im grinding asuka. See you soon fools.

Have you watched any of Gobou? I saw some the other day and it looks like he's really pushing the envelope on Asuka's set play. He used the card shuffle super more than anyone I've seen. I think that will be a bigger part of his game going forward as Asuka players improve
Ordinary magician is also a really good auska player
This kinda feels like Jacko all over. A few pros will take a shine to him and suddenly we'll see him winning tournaments here and there. Then we'll have to sit through people saying this character is a menace and not a real GG character

I'm surprised you barely talked about his mana at all, and that's like permanently one of the top 3 things in the mental stack when you're playing as him. It affects so much about his gameplan.
Like, sure he has a safejump 50/50 on throw, but if I get a throw I'm flashing red mana regen then going for a more boring blockstring about 75% of the time, another 15% of which is forgoing oki altogether just to bring myself all the way up to full mana.
After all, mana isn't just your attack fuel, it's also your real lifebar. If that thing breaks, there's a good chance you're losing the round.
It could have at least been mentioned when you talked about him gathering resources? Tension isn't his only resource.
My perspective here was based on what he can straight up just do, rather than the nuance of his resource.

Because the answer to a lot of questions surrounding Asuka is "it depends/it's situational" i think the ACTUAL questions to ask and answer is whether or not he can: Manipulate the odds in his favour so that his advantageous situations become more reliable than "it's situational" or alternatively if he can't do that: Are his advantageous situations, when they happen, more powerful than other characters or at least powerful enough to compensate for their lack of reliability.
Now i don't know what the answer is to these questions but if it's "yes" to any of them then i think he's a good character worth using. If the answer is no, then i don't think he's good enough to be worth using (from a competitive perspective that is, for casual play you should just play him if you enjoy him).
I'd love to see this kind of video for the whole cast honestly.

this character will obviously be even stronger the more people learn about his kit, I mean he’s really complicated after all.
Some notes:
Tk spell can be very strong if you've convinced your opponent that they can't mash. It lets you setup high low mix, and strike high low with a gaurd crush option.
You can also try to use it in neutral, tk cube + airdash can give you a combo if the cube hits, and pressure if it doesn't.
On the dp- it's probably better to use it as a "fuckit rc" option than a traditional reversal, since you can't use it at low mana (eg, when you've been hit) or using it lowers your mana to the point where the counter hit kills you.
But the upside is you can cancel into it in case you want to be greedy in neutral and draw cards against low profile options or long pokes.

Answer: It's kinda situational
As an outsider it seems like asuka's biggest slept-on strength is his ability to use his myriad options and playstyles to zero in on your opponents' weak points.
Asuka is less difficult to play, and more inconsistent. He's almost the logical extreme of what an item character is.
The problem is that he's so laser focused on his spells and the RNG inherent to them that it comes back to bite him in the ass in other aspects, like his defense and kinda eh normals.
The hard part comes in managing the resources so you arent dealing with rng. At 50 meter he can pick any 4 cards in his chosen test case so the rng is literally optional with meter, which he almost builds passively with how many actions he takes.
@@Ymx224 That's fair, though the fact that you're forced to use meter to bypass the RNG in any capacity is a frustration in itself, regardless of how fast he builds meter.

GG has a special place in my heart. My first fighting game was SFV after playing them as a kid in the 90s. I learned more about FGs from GG than I did SF. 😊

If you REALLY want Asuka pain 😂 PLAY HIS ARCADE!!! STAGE 8 & 9 IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE. A true boss battle!! His moves come out back to back and he fills the screen with bs he has only one book case full of all his good cards and HE NEVER RUNS OUT. The CPU give you a good showcase of the character😅 truly something no mere human can perform. Honestly that entire battle is a meme 😂😅
I'm Just glad Asuka isn't a zoner. he feels super fun with his wild and weird spells. But i wish mana slowly regenerated while not performing any actions like Chaos's focus meter. overall I like his pressure card draw strategy as it makes him feel different from the rest of the cast.
Gobou seems to be maining Asuka now.
There's also Low Jump Staff that can give him instead overheads too, and 6h is an overhead you can combo off of
He reminds of Hero from Smash, but with slightly better normals. Theoretically, you can get the god like spell rng and get cheese-y low percent kills and god like plays, but everyone who has tried to make Hero work just quit because it's way easier and more consistent to just play a better character more consistent character. And who wants to be at the mercy of heavy RNG when you're competing? And Asuka spells, while good, aren't THAT good compared to what normal characters can do with meter. And he dies instantly the moment he runs out of mana.
I don't think he's bad, I just think he's too inconsistent.
i main hero in smash and i think Asuka is far more consistent. i know you posted this 2 months ago but ppl like Gobou and Zando have figured Asuka out now. Hero also has spells he can draw that punish him, meanwhile all of Asuka's cards benefit him in some way even if some are better than others (for example Asuka can't Kamikaze like Hero can XD)
but yea the consistent win-con is to get into test case 3 as Asuka (ideally with meter) and use harmonics super to fish for mana regen card/all the OP fireballs in test case 3. mana regen card in TC3 will enable the win con. also the addition of wild assault helps him significantly for pressure and meterless oki on wallbreak.
I just started guilt gear I currently love to play technical characters i main jack o rn , should i master her before i try asuka?
When will you consider her mastered? If you see othet characters you like, go ahead and play them.

Honestly you should play who you want to play. Asuka is harder because you have to study him outside matches more. learning frame data on his cards. learning when its best to switch to other test kits. What cards are best from those test kits. how your playstyle should change based on your spells. he is a character that experimentation mid match is not always the best, and can wind up getting you killed. but with some study he becomes a pressure powerhouse.
Play who you want. If you like technical characters, you have to hold getting beat up for a while, but once you get over the skill floor, you'll be a force to be reckoned with
@@sleepfgc okay what I consider mastered is basically playing better than most players, having at least a 70-80 win rate, not like the top tier pros but able to compete in tournaments.

I feel like he's on the stronger side, but it does require good knowledge of him and i feel like hes more rng dependant that faust as if you get like 3 staffs in your spells youre giving up your turn a lot of the time to get rid of them or use one of them without a projectile to keep you safe. I think test case 2 is probably his best testcase and not very gimmicky like test case 3 with the expodia spells(which you can just sit back and block until hes out of mana)
The overhead and low spells in test case 2 are very good which is why i favor it over test case 3 and 1. However im sure therell be someone that can utilize all 3 testcases at once in a match at some point, itll have to depend on if theres any players willing to main him for a long time.
So far my personal opinion is that he’s cool but hard, then he gets mana regen card and then becomes a warcrime character for 10 seconds

from playing against and watching people play as Asuka, I feel like the character is really powerful when he gets going but is quite volatile in terms of not getting the right situations (cards) or just getting deleted on defence
fyi I play Nago in celestial, and have played against competent Asuka players that know what they are doing on offence, but quite a lot of times bad things just happen and you either don’t get the right spell or get murdered from a random beyblade in neutral
I'm pretty slow at the inputs still but it feels like the staffs are almost chaff to nerf him. Having one as an option you can use to set something weird up when safe is nice but it often fills up your slots and takes time to switch out
There are also hilarious doom situations where you end up with one spell or all shit/too situational spells like staffs and only screamers on round start, or staff dp mana cardrefill

I think it's fine to downplay him a "bit" since he's not fully fleshed out. Your opinion can change later down the road and you can use your earlier assessment as a point of reference. Just my opinion
@@Spawn3582 Fair, but on the subject of using your previous experience, I was one of the HC downplayers, which is why im more on the fence this time around for asuka since hes the same type of very high skill zoner with lots of potential.
He is really, really good. Also very fun.
As an asuka main:
Use your ground viper. Goes under a disgusting amount of cubes, and will usually catch the card draw.
Hit the cubes. Every single cube in his arsenal dies to literally any amount of damage.
Watch the mana. If the purple bar runs out and turns red, he cant cast spells and has less health than chipp.

In card games, if a deck is Really good vs the majority of the opponents, but Really bad vs 2-3 'good' ones - then it's not going to be winning tournaments. The winners are the ones that are at least decent against everything.
So, if the answers will be always "situationally" - Asuka will never be the top guy for tournament scene.
But hey, nobody says you can't be winning swiss tournaments with him. His gameplay is fun/infuriating/explosive.

You can't have good conversion and be plus on most everything you do at all ranges and not be a top character.

@@GadielVaStar Most likely. He just has a really high difficulty floor because he has a lot of things to manage, similar to HC but to the nth degree. When people figure out his real potential and find a way to reliably manipulate situations to their favor, he will easily jump up to the "GOAT"/"Wins" category. For now though, he'll just be lurking in the background as a viable threat just like how Nago and HC were upon release.

I love strive. I really enjoy basically everything about it. But im honestly getting tired of all the zoning and projectiles flooding the screen that just create obstacle courses.
Hopefully full-screen burst has somewhat fixed this issue for you

Asuka needs a rework to how his mana is spent, right now with there being no regen to his mana pool before burnout and it being spent to cast spells, get new spells and even while defending.
I'd like to see his spells be made free and have his Bookmark cost increased to compensate, it'd add some needed predictability to his gameplan and lessen the punishment for blocking / getting hit

This character spits out PLUS frames and has no weaknesses to counteract it. Meanwhile Ky only has 2 plus on block moves…despite being strike throw. Release the broken dlc and favortize them.
