Curtis Childs is the director of OffTheLeftEye at the Swedenborg Foundation. While obtaining his degree in communication studies from Oakland University, Curtis experienced an internal battle with depression that led him to question God and his lifelong interest in Swedenborgian theology. After a period of intense suffering, he recovered from his depression with the help of modern medicine, therapy, and a return to the spiritually uplifting messages he found in Swedenborg’s writings. Now, Curtis is applying his education and desire to help others find peace through Swedenborg’s insights by producing and hosting this weekly webcast.
Rev. Dr. Jonathan S. Rose is the series editor of the New Century Edition, an ongoing project that incorporates the latest scholarship to produce a modern, accessible translation of Emanuel Swedenborg’s theological works. Holder of a B.A. and a M.Div. in religion and a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Latin, he has worked for years in the study of Neo-Latin and in Swedenborgian research. He was both chaplain and a tenured professor of religion and sacred languages at Bryn Athyn College before taking on his current position with the Swedenborg Foundation.
Karin Childs is a scriptwriter and online moderator for offTheLeftEye. Her spiritual growth is largely informed by a lifelong Swedenborgian education. While raising five children with her husband, Jon, she applied her love of the Bible and Swedenborg's writings to volunteer work, creating Sunday school programs and church pageants. It was Swedenborg's works that Karin turned to for solace after the devastating death of their oldest daughter. For 17 years, she and Jon ran a small Swedenborgian publishing company to help others dealing with loss and grief, and wrote three novels herself. Now, Karin puts her compassion into action through the work of the Swedenborg Foundation.
Chelsea Odhner is a production manager and scriptwriter for offTheLeftEye. A lifelong Swedenborgian, Chelsea's interest in Swedenborg's spiritual work intensified in her early twenties when she realized she wanted to make conscious changes in her life and behaviors. When paired with her study of yoga practice and philosophy, Chelsea found Swedenborg’s worldview connected all the spokes of different faiths and philosophical perspectives that she values. Initially interested in pursuing a career in integrative medicine, her passion for poetry, writing, and music led her to focus on serving the spiritual side of health and well-being.

I've been waiting for this one with great anticipation. My mom suffered emotionally and physically prior to her death. It wasn't until the Lord's Prayer was read that her spirit completely surrendered. The power in those words, "Thy will be done". She passed within two hours, but we were all ready and at peace. Thank you once again.
What a powerful experience, Annie! Just reading it gives me heaven-chills. Thank you for sharing this with the community here. It's truly awe-some to hear how this show resonated with your own experience!
A wonderful thought proving video. I can tell you growing up Catholic, I recanted the "Lord's Prayer" every night. I would pray every night from the time I was 8 until about 26. I regret straying away from that "holy time" because even though my childhood was not wonderful, I felt happy inside and closer to God. I married my childhood friend at 22 and remain married until this day. A lot has happened since then. Our only child died at 23 years old to cystic fibrosis. We lost a thriving business which caused my husband to fall into a deep depression.
Yet this prayer has always seem to give me hope. When I pray it, I feel a sense of empowerment. I do feel closer to God in someway. ☺️
Hi Lisa, My heart goes out to you hearing of the intense life changes you've been through. I am so glad you have those deep feelings of connection to God within you to sustain you. I'm grateful you can feel strengthened and empowered through this prayer! The Lord carries us through the hard times and ensures that they bear goodness in our lives in the long run. Sending love to you on the journey! ❤️
Thank you for your encouraging words and wisdom. 💕
Wonderful presentation. Our beloved revelator Emmanuel Swedenborg said more than once that the angels do not favour the word 'king'. God warned the Hebrews most solemnly to not choose a king to rule them. They disobeyed and the kings didn't do much good overall. If Our Lord is the chief of the angels, He also would not favour the name 'king'. He calls Himself a 'shepherd' and a 'lamb' and the 'government', but I firmly believe He would never have referred to Himself as a king.
Also, Jesus say's He does not tempt people, ever, nor does He punish anyone, according to Swedenborg's revelations. Therefore, the Lord's prayer may be more accurate said like this: 'Our Father, who is in heaven, may we hold your name as holy. Thine leadership come and Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily spiritual bread, and forgive us our weakness as we forgive the folly's of others. Lead us away from selfishness, and deliver us from error, for Yours is the divine authority, all Goodness comes from You, and we wish to faithfully serve you forever.' I say variations of this prayer very often every day. The tremendous power of just the two words - 'Our Father' never ceases to astound me.
The main differences are - no king references, and no implication that the Lord ever leads us into bad behaviour. The word 'Glory' implies worship, but worship boils down to 'doing good because it is good' forever. Swedenborg defines selfishness as the principal evil. (Self love.) 'Folly' is like choosing willful ignorance when we are instructed to be wise. Your analogy of a Swiss army knife is a good one, Great. and informative video folks. Just reading Hugo Odhner, 'The Spiritual World' for the sixth time. Spiritual warfare hotting up in my neighbourhood.
Wonderful insights, Ken, and I love that you have a practice of saying the Lord's prayer in slightly different ways. I imagine that really helps to keep the vibrant meaning alive for you. Thank you for watching, and for sharing the thoughts that came to you!
Everytime am stuck this prayer opens doors
Thanks for your testimony about the power of the Lord's prayer, sasha!
my personal daily prayer.....
Our Creator that resides in heaven, Your Name is so important, Your Kingdom come, may it be Your will that is done here on earth as it is done in heaven. please provide our daily needs and forgive is for our sins and trespasses as we truly forgive those who have ever sinned or ever trespassed against us and keep us from temptation and deliver us from evil.
Please lead us down paths that we can honour You, honour our Mother Earth, all of the angels, our family and ancestors, our spouse, their family and ancestors , and ourselves as temples for Your Spirit.
We are humbled and grateful for your ongoing ultimate blessings and protection on us, our families, friends, business, hopes, dreams, and everything important to us.
We are grateful for everything in our lives, this life we live and life itself.
For Yours is the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen
What a beautiful prayer. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! Amen.
great grandfather That’s beautiful, thank you ♥️
I love this. The Lord's Prayer covers a multitude of needs, many of which we may not be cognitively aware. For me, to pray this prayer represents a scrub brush that removes some of the contamination that tries to attach to us by simply being in these bodies on this earth.
I love the way you frame the Lord's Prayer as a scrub for dirty contaminents!
A year ago I was watching a historical programe which mentioned early translations of the bible and wondered if academics had got a closer representation of what jesus actually said. And yes they did. Guess what. It was the first time I said the lords prayer with real meaning. It's very similar to swedenborgs. If everyone follows your programe I think they are in for a very pleasant surprise. You ticked all the boxes. By far this is your best most useful programe so far. A tool from heaven that can be used every day. Well done!!!!!
So glad this episode really reached you and resonated with you! And how wonderful that this translation of the Lord's Prayer closely matched a version that felt meaningful to you. Thanks, Mark! Your encouragement means a lot to us.
I’m watching this all these years later, again for the first time!
I hear you Terraray. It can feel brand new all over again.
Hello my friends
Every time I listen to all of you I go into the most joyful, happy, loving vibration one could ever imagine...sooo much love to the divine, angels and each and everyone of you!!!
Wow!! That is so wonderful to hear, Helen! Sending so much love right back at you! We are so glad to have you here.
My church congregation recites the Lord's Prayer together every Sunday. So many times am almost overcome before we complete reciting it. It exudes a spiritual energy like none other.
Beautiful, TheSulross! I have found that too! Such a powerful sensation. Thank you for sharing about your experience here!
I am STOKED about this one.
That makes 2 of us!
I was too, Joy!! Counting the days, really. Haha.
@@terraray7487 It was worth the wait! I'm here to watch again and LOVE all the comments!
A few years back I had a lot of very painful dental work done. To take my mind off the pain I would repeat the lords prayer over and over. Seemed to help.
I've done the exact same......it's simply amazing. This led to a huge gratefulness for the dedication and talent of my dental help providers :)
What a wonderful use of this prayer! It really seems to be tool to get people through so many kinds of hardships. Thanks for sharing this, Robin and Nancy!
Our daily bread can mean our spiritual nutritions.
Yes 60v and we need it every day.
The Lord's Prayer is one of God's perfect prayers. That I say daily x2 and the Shepherd's Psalm. Amen, love and blessings 😇🙏🌺
Ah, yes, you can just feel the holiness in those beautiful sets of scripture! And here's our episode about the 23rd Psalm: ruclips.net/video/tE1fk-INcmY/видео.html Love and blessings to you, too!

Thank you for the suggestion, I will go there...😇🙏🌺
@@offTheLeftEye ,
I did watch that one, but it always helps to revisit it. I may have missed the 1st time. Thank you, love and blessings 😇🙏🌺
Ok, this whole video is exactly what I have experienced. Many times throughout my life. I have tried to explain it to a few close true friends and true family members. But it’s been so hard to explain. Angels are there but demons can come along too. Again hard to explain but I’ve lived it. I feel very honored to experience this. It’s so awesome it’s communication without language
It is so awesome to hear from you that you have experienced similar things! I hear you on how it's hard to explain! I'm glad Swedenborg's experiences can be affirming for yours. And yes, awareness of the influence of spirits is oftentimes non-verbal, even though you can intuit exactly what is being communicated. It's amazing! Thanks so much, Flower Child, for sharing about how this has shown up for you!
Thank you so much for doing this profound and pragmatic video! I lost my mother a month ago. She was a very spiritual person. My mother taught me to believe in prayers and leave your burden to God. I lost my faith a long the way when evil spirits led me down the wrong path, so I stopped praying. Before my mother passed, my youngest sister wanted to see the will even before her death and did not want to include me. When my mom passed, I called her out on lying to me about researching the funeral home before going there. I also spoke to her about my mom’s wishes that all of her children can see the will and it’s supposed to be divided amongst us. She didn’t like what I had to say and played the victim. She is now saying she wants to seek family therapy with me, and until then I am not safe to talk to. Also, she’s not going to give me my share of the inheritance. I even apologized to her several times taking the high road, but she has not forgiving me. I am in a lot of pain. This video lifted my spirit and I have been praying the Lord’s Prayer. This week, I feel more at peace and I feel the Lord’s presence in comforting me. Thank you for saving me when I am at my worse. You are God’s angel on Earth.
Whew, Nicole, It sounds really rough. Losing your mother is one huge thing, but the conflict with your sister is pretty hard too. Bless your mother for believing in prayer and giving our troubles up to God. I am glad you found your way home after being lost for awhile. May you and your sister come to a place of peace. Here is a video that includes a conflict between two brothers, and how they found resolution.

@@offTheLeftEye Thank you! I really appreciate your compassion. I will definitely watch the conflict resolution between two brothers. At this point, I am going to let time heal our pain and hopefully one day we can make amends. 🙏
I'm so deeply resonate with this I'm having a glorious correspondence with the lord and my whole self.
That sounds incredibly powerful, Jerry! Thanks for letting us know about it.
Blessed all
This is amazing info on Lord's prayer ❣️👌 hallelujah 🙌 praise the lord!! Amazing!! amazing amazing!!
So glad it touched your heart and spirit like that, Ankita! Blessings to you!
This channel is absolute, pure, creative genius.
I'm so glad it touches your heart, Rae Ray! Thanks for letting us know, and thanks for watching!
OTLE, hero’s journey inspired paraphrase of the Lord’s Prayer.
I acknowledge God and God’s power.
Lead me God, help me follow you, not myself.
I receive everything from God.
I make mistakes and need to forgive myself and others, instead of judging.
When I follow God, I am led to goodness and truth and away from the false.
Let it be so, thank you, God.
Maudy Paden ❤️
This is so beautiful, Maudy! Thank you for sharing it!
This was an absolutely wonderful show! Using The Hero’s Journey as a metaphorical roadmap for The Lord’s Prayer is pure genius! I’m going to view this episode again and again because there is so much to study and reflect upon here. Thank you, ❤️
We're so happy this episode really resonated with you! Thank you for letting us know. It is really valuable to soak in Swedenborg info multiple times. I find I get new insights with each viewing or reading. Enjoy!
Thank you to all for your work. I've tried to speak with others about Swedenborg, but only get blocked minds. And that's all good, too!
Debora Ruel you’re brave! I never know where to even begin when wanting to speak about Swedenborg to others who have never heard of him. (I am not a good verbal communicator anyway) so I just refer them here to this channel!😉
Deborah, it's great of you to try to share with others something that's meaningful to you, but yeah, it's important to be able to "let it go" if they aren't interested. God can reach them in other ways, and who knows, those "seeds" you planted in their minds might bear fruit someday! We're sure glad and blessed to have you here.
OTLE crew, this is the best episode yet. The Hero’s journey connected to the Lord’s prayer made all the difference to me! Thank you 🙏
Wonderful, Maudy! I'm so glad that connection felt meaningful to you!
Amazing new perspective on the Lord's prayer, thank you.
You're welcome, Paul! Glad this gave you new ways to think about it.
Wow! Best Vid Ever! I've always loved the Lord's Prayer and you guys just enriched it and strengthened it even more. Thank you so much!
Wonderful, Bonnie! It makes us so happy to know that the information in this episode felt powerful to you. We feel blessed to have you in the audience!
Wonderful explanation and articulation. Lit up by the symbiotic comparison of the hero’s journey with the Lord’s Prayer! Delayering of the word in its finest! Swedenborg style. This merges much of what the “spiritual or new age” community refers to as kundalini experiences and that of more of a traditional Christianity viewpoint.
Spiritual put in biblical terms. It’s a coalesced variation that’s so needed to heal religious/spiritual bias and bifurcation between those communities. I’ve come to know that the essential truths are very similar. The journey back home, to God.
As Ram Dass states, “We’re all here to walk each other home” so evident in the works of this channel. With gratitude.
So happy you mention Kundalini. I recently began reading the Word and the Writings using the Kundalini process as a framework. All of a sudden, all the material is making so much more sense. Ideas are coming together like a jigsaw puzzle. Thanks for your comment.
Thanks, Stephanie! It means a lot to hear from you! I'm so glad the connection between the hero's journey and the Lord's prayer resonated with you! I love the further connection you're pointing out about the parallel with kundalini. It's so cool to ponder all the ways the divine is leading us in our lives. Like you say, the journey home. So beautiful!
Very cool, H Oswald! What a powerful combination! I love that these ideas sound alive and vibrant in your life!
H Oswald Yes, that same experience happened to me as well. I became more hungry for the word with a much greater clarity into the spirit of Jesus. Many classify kundalini, at least in the Christian Faith, to be of an evil or deceiving nature, but the awakening merged me with God, the Bible, and the word more powerfully than ever.
I will never forget the night my Catholic grandmother taught me “The Lords Prayer”. I was 9. I memorized it quickly and said it every night thereafter for many years-until I didn’t anymore. I just now realized that I never really understood it and the awful truth is I thought is was a boring prayer that everyone says all the time...OTLE just changed that for me! I mean, wow! I will never stop saying this prayer again! Thank you so much! Something is going on here-mind blowing!🙏👏🏼🤗❤️
😊❤️ It's so great to hear your experience! I remember trying to sneak out of the room while my family was saying the Lord's prayer because I knew all their eyes were closed! 😂 So my 9 year old self can relate to yours! 😆 And my present-day self can relate to yours too because these ideas were mind blowing for me as well! I'm so glad to hear you've found these ideas to be inspiring and empowering!
offTheLeftEye sneaking out of the room-good one!😂🤣🤣
@@gsand07 :)
True the Lord is present in all details about us as the Lord prayers says Let your will be done, not my will "
Amen!
Wooow, the way Swedenborg worded his experiences simply while describing the hardest things to explain or even understand. Humane language doesn’t even scratch the surface of the sensations and feelings that us as souls can experience. With the part where you were talking about the 6+ effects of The Lords Prayer, I’ve definately felt interruptions while praying, maybe not feeling my hands being seperated 😂 but I found when my spirit was starting to feel strong and I was on a beautiful role, I sometimes started to feel like I’m “losing the grip” if that makes sense, like I began to feel one with God then all of a sudden, it started to weaken in some way, or I forget what I’m going to say next in the prayer. Another one was having random unpleasant images pop up in my head. It doesn’t happen anymore because I’m much more spiritually stronger, but boy was it annoying, not scary because I know God’s power. Now I know the The Lord’s Prayer can help 😊
WMA, thank you for sharing that with us! Incredible how invasive and obnoxious evil spirits can be! I'm glad you have overcome that sort of intrusion and found a new peace in a new spiritual state. Sending love!
I think this might have been surprising to some of your followers and this might be one of your most informative and important videos. Thank you! So now I think about somebody who is or has a problem, I say the Our Father looking at them mentally. I don't know if this is going to help them but I will do it anyway. I always tell my kids, whenever you see something you don't like, pray but the Lord's Prayer is a good one that I never thought about directing toward them.
That would be a wonderful use of the Lord's Prayer! Thank you so much for sharing that idea, and thank you for watching!
Like today when my son was having a panic attack because he can't sleep and he has a terrible schedule because he wakes up really late in the day and then he expects to sleep at night. So I recited the Lord's prayer and made him say it with me because he wanted to go to the hospital and I don't know what happened but I'm just going to have to leave that in the God's hands. So please pray for Ronnie, anybody out there until he gets through this mess! Thank you.
@@bernadettestar Sending love and prayers to you and your son, Bernadette!
@@offTheLeftEye thanks he watches to sometimes too because he recommended this video channel to me.
So after quite a few years of people praying for him, Ronnie seems to be doing better.
I love the parallel you draw between The Hero's Journey and the Lord's prayer. Amazing this amount of wisdom that lies in just few sentences! Thank you for this wonderful video, Off The Left Eye Team !
You're so welcome, Olivia! It is a moving parallel, isn't it?
I was waiting for this subject and believe that is very important. Wonderful explanation. Thanks to the whole team !!!
I'm so glad that this topic and episode reach your heart! I agree, it is a very important subject. Thank you for watching!
I’m going to say the Lord prayer everyday now !
Love it! I'm so glad to hear that this episode spoke to you, Bonnie!
Oh wow yes, what a relief! I struggle on my own with "advanced spiritual experience" while continuing to struggle through grueling circumstances. Im a sailboat lost at sea with no rudder, I just found my rudder, thank you most graciously. I noticed for the second time today that after I say the Lords prayer the pitch of my tinnitus changes to a higher octive and I stop feeling like its me against the world. And so naturally your video popped up in my feed. God, likes it when we take notice and appreciate His presence, and I like it when I find a way to get closer to Him.
Katalin Farago ❤️🙏
Your joy brings me joy, Katalin! I'm so glad to hear that you found affirmation and strength through the ideas in this show! You've found your rudder!! I'm thrilled that our show could support you in closeness to God. Sending love as you continue on the journey!
I often say the Lord's prayer to protect me from evil spirits. I feel that it makes them leave me alone.
Me too, Denise!
Sacred is the Prayer that ask 4 nothing, instead offers 2 give and please God that then flows through all connected as one !!!
Beautiful! Thank you.
The most profound and groundbreaking show on today! Descarte, Lewis, Socrates, Epicurus, Jung, Freud, Rumi, Hafiz, Kabir, you name them, their mouths would be, and mine, floored!¡!¡ Love this show! Hallelujah!
Thanks so much, Shane!! It's great to hear you enjoyed the show! Yes, these insights about the Lord's Prayer are incredibly profound! It was groundbreaking for me to learn them, too. Thanks for love, Shane!
Luv the the opening music of the viedo & colorful heavenly scene 🌟💖🌟
I'm so glad you loved it, Mimi tee! Thank you!
When I was going through deep depression and Angel spoke or instructed me to say or repeat the Lord's Prayer . It's POWERFUL and people without understanding desire to say it's not of any value for today
It sounds like that angelic encounter taught you a valuable lesson about the power of the Lord's Prayer. Did you find anything of particular resonance in this episode?
I would repeat the Lord's Prayer repeatedly. I had supernatural experiences I was taken into the heavens I'm thinking the second heavens and was shone what influence was behind the darkness I was experiencing. I saw tall beings that could dart very fast in space .One came b4 me I ask who are you? He had dark robe with a hooded and like a skeleton face . Heard these are what you are battling with.. That's why in deep depression you feel death. Because it really is SPIRITUAL BATTLE. I am more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus said it until it manifested. I am SHALOM and I AM
@@debbiehendryx8925 Wow, thank you so much for describing some of your experiences, Debbie. Very powerful!
I personally get a tingling and goosebumps when I recite the Lord’s prayer. Have ever since I was a child and first learned it. Praise God. Thank you for this episode. Truly love you all. ❤️
What a profound experience to have during the Lord's prayer :)
Hi. Thanks for the great efforts in our behalf! You are the best!
Aw, thanks so much, Ken. It means the world to us to be able to share these meaningful concepts with viewers who want to watch. Grateful to have you in our audience!
So many helpful insights, like the fish becoming aware of the water and the water talking back. I’ll probably be watching this one over and over again. Thank you. :)
Great, Keith! We're so glad this episode really reached you!
Found this channel after seeing Curtis’s interview with Brian Scott. I’ve been listening to your videos everyday since. I can’t believe I never heard of Swedenborg before but it’s just as well since the timing is perfect.
God is incredible with his timing, I find. It adds to the wonder of it all. Welcome and yes that interview with Brian Scott was fabulous.
Great episode! I try to often say the prayer when I'm alone in the car driving in the morning. I like the correspondence-new light. The day unlived yet. Thanks so much for the insights in this episode. Your hard work is appreciated!
Mark, thanks for sharing that. I love that idea, I want to do that too! What a great way to start a day "unlived," as you wisely say.
Oooh! That was so interesting to match up the Lord's prayer with the hero's journey. Fun, accessible, and useful! I'm interested to see what praying with this in mind brings to the experience. I also was intrigued by the story where the spirits were distracting Swedenborg while he was trying to pray. I don't think there is a soul on this earth that hasn't had the experience of the most well intentioned prayer or meditation time, only to find they can't keep their mind focused. It's interesting to think that this might not just be a merely human flaw, but could be the influence of the spirit world where certain spirits might not want us to connect to the Lord and His power through prayer. It suggests a way to combat that distractedness, too, in that we can ask God to disperse the spirits that want to keep us from that heavenly connection. I'd just like to add a thought to that idea of the hero's journey lining up with the prayer, which is that the last part, "For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever" to me always seems like a recognition that the real hero of the story is the Lord Himself. We are on the journey to come into a heavenly state, but once we get there we recognize that the heavenly state is God, the power to get us there was and is God, and the praise and glory all go to Him for getting us there in the end. Thanks for the beautiful thoughts!
Nadine Rogers everything you’ve said here were my “thoughts” exactly, after watching this! I’m stunned! Wow!!💕
Totally love your thoughts here, Nadine! Yeah, it is reassuring to think there are always spirits with an agenda to mess with our efforts to connect with God, so it's not "just us." And I really love that concept of realizing at the end of the journey who the real Hero is. Awesome!
thank you Nadine. I, too, very often experience the disruption of my intention to say the Lord's Prayer and need to pause, ask for His help, and begin again. So much mischief in the spirits who would block our access to the good the Lord offers! It makes me happy to hear how others struggle with such similar things because it reminds me how connected we are!
@@gsand07 Neat! We must be connecting with the same angels!

Years ago in a dream, I was uncertain and even burdened by some beings. I nervously starting reciting The Lord’s Prayer and they went away. Since then, I’ve used it repeatedly in the dream world and have offered this tidbit to others. This video is confirmation that it’s a wonderful barometer and also the perfect prayer. Thank you.

Borrowing from Tarra Ray below - "Just wow. ❤" This opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for me in my prayer and meditation life. And reflection on the Hero's Journey in this way is so profound. I can really relate to this in my life over the past several years. So grateful to all of you at OTLE for your creativity, knowledge, and commitment to bringing Swedenborg's insights to life for so many!

@@offTheLeftEye Thank you and you're so welcome. This one is marked among my favorites to periodically return to. It's really fertile ground for short clips, especially The Hero's Journey analogy from 32:41 to 38:37. I love Chelsea's contribution here. :) It might even be worth taking it back a bit further and making it a "shortish" clip. beginning at perhaps 25:58 to capture the entire flow of "The Perfect Order of the Prayer. .. And Jesus gave the our father. I prayed the Lords Prayer so many times that an angel showed up in my room and took me to heaven. This is true. It changed my life forever.
Hi Joanne, thank you so much for sharing about your experience with us. The Lord's prayer is a powerful gift. I'm glad this show could affirm your own experience!
Can't recall the source, but I once read that the first two words of the Lord's Prayer revolutionized religion for all time: By saying "OUR", it's the Creator who loves us all. No hierarchy - brought us all to the river at the same moment in time. Beautiful to hear about the power of the words - I would love to learn the Aramaic, as well, just because that's the original language in which Jesus spoke. Kind of like being there.📿🙏❤️
The inclusiveness and unending mercy of Christ's love is the main feature I feel when I hold these words in my heart. Love this program.
Wow, what a beautiful testimony to the power of those two simple words, "Our Father." Thank you so much!
I was so excited for this video and it did not disappoint! So, so good. I love the animation so much, too! I am so fascinated that learning about ES compels me to *really* want to read the bible (with an open heart), and I am excited to pray, and inspired to try and love people (and as always, to eat Honeycombs). Thank you, OTLE. Just wow. ❤
Same here, Terra. Including the Honeycombs! haha OTLE has a way of opening me up too. And I agree with you on the animation. Their animator is awesome!!
We sure value our wonderful animator, Meng, and our whole talented graphics team! Terra Ray, it means so much to us all to know that these videos inspire you to want to read the Bible, pray, and to make the effort love others. What more could we hope for! And I guess the Honeycombs are icing on the cake. ;)
This is life changing. Thank you so much.
I'm so glad this information resonated with your heart! Thank you for watching.
OMG I LOVE the hero’s journey. I just recently got JC’s book like 3 months ago. It is a gold mine of wisdom in my opinion, and most of the time all he does is quotes from mythology
Awesome! Yes, Campbell's work is wonderful. Swedenborg learned that world mythologies all have a common root in something he called the "Ancient Word", which was a sacred text written purely in dramatic divine allegory. Since the story of the "Ancient Word" was all about the human journey of spiritual development, all the world mythologies that spun off from it carry that same theme within them, despite having different characters and setting and details. Fascinating!
Thank you for sharing this knowledge with us. It truly makes a difference know that I’m aware of the deeper significant of the Lord’s prayer.
I'm very glad this information feels so helpful to you, Susan. Thank you for watching!
An excellent video. Interestingly the explanation of the 'forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors" phrase in the mapping to The Hero's Journey reinforces the wisdom of letting go of the trespasses / trespass form of words found in translations made in England in the 16thC. Yes one can understand they rationalized the alteration but in praying it sounds this form of words reads like a plea bargain with a wrathful Deity. OTOH debts / debtors makes for a far less ego centric and fits the word forgive a debt where we write off the debt we feel someone owes us and treat what we gave them as, well a gift. Likewise the debts we owe the Lord can never be repaid, He gives us Love, Mercy, Grace etc, these are our debts. The Hero Journey summary explanation pretty much lines up with this meaning based on debts / debtors so is a nice validation.
Interesting, RoundSomeStuff. Thanks for adding to the conversation!
Great work guys, nice to have matters in plain English!

Wonderful, Nancy! I'm so glad you are finding so much spiritual nourishment in this episode! It's our joy to get to share these life-changing ideas with others!
I loved this episode and I especially liked the detailed hero’s journey. You really laid it out; and made me think of big stories like JRR Tolkien’s saga. When you said that the Lord’s Prayer was like a rudder on a boat for Swedenborg I can relate. I hold this Prayer to me; it feels like I wear it like a locket over my heart. It is my constant companion. Currently I am focusing on “and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors”. This is where I struggle with my spiritual process. I have been thinking about the 23rd Psalm where it says “surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever”. I see that how I forgive others and with which qualities I forgive others, what is in my heart and my intention, is what I will end up with in the end. The Lord will give us goodness and mercy according to David’s psalm. And that is what we will live with in heaven if we are that fortunate. So I think about an attitude of good intentions and mercy whenever I think I am slighted or offended, etc. I find this is where I might feel anger or resentment welling up; and it shocks me how easily self-righteous resentment can be triggered. It takes so little to feel put out by something someone does. But at the same time I am so grateful for this spiritual challenge. As Robert Frost said in a poem, there is no beginning or end - only the middle. I feel we are about process, change and improvement in this moral universe, and always in the middle of some work - thank the Lord. ❤️
Thank you for these beautiful reflections. There is so much incredible richness in every line of the Lord's prayer, in the 23rd Psalm, and in all of Scripture. It's exciting to realize that we can keep unpacking and applying the deeper meanings and impact of these messages in our lives forever!
I can see and feel the immediate implications of yet another profound Swedenborg insight, truely he was a divine seer
Wonderful, John! It's amazing stuff. We're so glad to get to share it.
You should do a video on george inness and artists relationship with swedenborg. In a lot of ways the tradition us landscape artists keep alive in the US is because of swedenborg. You can see his influence in a lot of epic spiritual landscapes to this day. I read a lot about swedenborg and it influences my work
Thanks so much for sharing this, Devin! There was a conference several years ago called "Swedenborg and the Arts," and I (Chara) learned a lot about Inness and other artists influenced by Swedenborg. It's moving to hear that his work still influences your work!
Another Devin -- Devin P. Zuber -- wrote a book called "A Language of Things: Emanuel Swedenborg and the American Environmental Imagination." I think it might speak your language! By the author's own admission, it is quite a scholarly book, so just know that.
I'd love to hear more about how your work is influenced by these ideas. And I'll pass along your suggestion about doing a show on this topic to the creators. Happy painting! -- or whatever art form it is that you practice!
Looooove the example of the fish comunticating with the water wow wow wow
I'm so glad to hear that thought resonated with you, Mrs. Dawn! It's a fun way to think about it!
The name 'apple' entails all of the specific character embodied in that particular fruit. Everybody knows what an apple is and associates 'apple' with a group of characteistics, features and tastes based on their level of experience with that fruit. If I tried to call a tomato an apple, I would be criticized or corrected because it would appear that I'm not aware of the different natures of these two fruit. Whether one likes apples or not the NAME 'apple' is always associated with a group of characteristics and features, regardless of my taste for it. The amazing thing is that even though the nature of an apple doesn't change, the appreciation that an individual has for an apple does based on their experience with apples. Jesus is the name of God made human and all the characteristics and features that it entails regardless of individual biases toward the name.
Had to pause and share my understanding after the first 5 mins of the show. This episode is packed with POWER and some explosive revelations! Wow, my mind is blown...

I think when it says i and the father are one its cause God is in each of us.....so yes.the father and i are one. Not only for Jesus but for each of us.
Yes! Your reflection makes me think of these words of Jesus from John 17:21-23: "As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us . . . The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." Yeah, the information is deep, but fascinating. I hope it can give you some good food for thought!
Since there are ten points on the journey through the Lord's Prayer, perhaps in some symbolic way the ten points also mirror the Ten Commandments (2 tablets -- I-IV our duty toward God, V-X our duty toward our neighbor) . . .
Yes indeed! I agree. Maybe someday we will do a study on that comparison!
Jesus is the pure quality and essence of God (redeemer) manifested in human form. Divinity made relatable. Yet he's God, totally supreme to my human nature in everyway. To denounce Jesus as someone less than God, would be like disrespecting the essence (pure nature) of my name by defaming my character. Jesus IS the name of God made human (and this name 'Jesus' encompasses all that that manifestation entails). Like Yahweh, Elohim, Jehovah Jireh, and El-Shaddai represents specific natures of God's character.
Really well said, Temisha! Thank you so much!

Very interesting discussion. I’ll table the exact subject for the moment and ask your insights on prayer,
I bike every day in all seasons and wearier,. The first part of my ride is my daily prayers. I begin by praying for all those I’ve lost, and since I’m in my 50s it’s a pretty long list, although I mention everyone individually until the end when I ask that may they and all people gone before you find unimaginable joy Beaty and love, Given what I’ve Learned about the after,I’ve from your videos, does praying for the dead matter? I’d like to think it does on some level, but what do I know!
My second part is to pray for everyone I know and loved another very long list, and I conclude it by asking “ May and all your people do the most with Tiger lives they can, be the best people they can be, and never lose sight of you, part 3 is a similar prayer asking for guidance in my life.
I conclude with The Lords Prayer, although I never thought about it as deeply as you explained in this video. Admittedly, I learned it as a child but I do try to interpret it as I recite it,
This is no doubt unique, but I have sort of an auto pilot that allowed me to navigate traffic while in prayer and never really notice it, unless I have to react to being in a situation where I have to react fast.
But, are prayers said during the course of a work out actually heard?
What a beautiful practice, Paul! Prayers coming from the heart are certainly heard, including during a workout! Praying always matters in the sense of turning our hearts and minds upward to the Lord, and outward toward others. It is not needed for the sake of making God take care of people -- God always does that -- but it helps add to the general aura of love that is needed between us all. This article talks about how the communication of love through prayer is an extremely powerful thing:
swedenborg.com/the-magical-power-of-prayer/
Keep on spreading that wonderful, spiritual love during your workouts! Love always makes a difference!
My Interpretation of the Lord’s Prayer
Our Father - Our Creator
Who art in heaven - In a state of perfection
Hallowed be thy name - Your name is sacred, awe inspiring
Thy kingdom come - To mankind
Thy will be done - By mankind
On earth as it is in heaven - Loving the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul
Give us this day our daily bread - Our needs supplied every day
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us - By forgiving others we forgive ourselves for being the same way.
Lead us not into temptation - may we not be lead into temptation
But deliver us from evil - Protection from evil and helping us come back after falling into temptation.
For thine is the kingdom - Yours is a state of perfection
The power - To heal
The glory - The example to all creation
Amen - Done but not complete
Really beautiful, Bill. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Finally - it's a great honour to have my music used. Wonderful.

We are honored to finally get around to using some of the original music you so generously offered. It is beautiful! Thank you, thank you.
Here is that translation:
"Our Father in the heavens:
Your name must be kept sacred.
Your kingdom must come.
Your will must be done -
as in heaven, so also on the earth.
Give us our daily bread today.
And forgive us our debts,
as we too forgive our debtors.
And do not put us to the test,
but free us from the evil one;
because the kingdom
and the power
and the glory

@@offTheLeftEye - I'm slightly concerned by this line: 'Give us our daily bread today.' It feels like tautology. Why not simply: Give us our daily bread?
Thanks.
@@timbragg9684 Every repetition in the Bible has a purpose! The way I understand this line is that the "today" part reflects the fact that we need to concentrate on the present, on today, rather than worrying about the future. The "daily bread" part is an acknowledgment that God does provide for us every day. Do you see the difference?
@@offTheLeftEye- yes I can. Still doesn't sit quite right for me though. 'Give us our daily bread today as every day.' Thanks for bearing with me.
Thanks so much for your work putting together this show! I’ve saved it so I can reference back to it in the future. I never realized how much there is inside the Prayer..Here is a question: early in the show (around 9:11) a woman with a wonderful voice reads Swedenborg’s personal version of the Prayer which is different from the common one; the esteemed Swedenborgian savant/ scholar- Dr. Rose muses about the difference; wondering if anything can be gained in ES’s version. He says that ES’s version is translated from his latin to modern english. Further, ES’s personal latin version came from earlier Greek or Hebrew biblical text. Then Dr. Rose uses the idiom “aren’t going a little whisper down the lane?” One of my hobbies is that I’m an idiom collector. I can’t figure this one out. Can you explain? Great work on the show! Thanks for the many insights! Mark
Great question Mark! The idiom "whisper down the lane" refers to how rumors get created and words get distorted in the retelling - so it's a visual reference to people spreading a rumor "down the lane" where they live, and from house to house the rumor changes just a little bit, so that the original story is quite different from the result by the time it gets to the end of the lane!
As a kid, my friends and I played a game called "telephone," where we'd whisper a sentence or story around a circle and hear how it changed at the end. I found this link in a google search about it, I guess "whisper down the lane" is a Pennsylvania (or regional) expression! www.waywordradio.org/whisper-down-the-lane/
@@offTheLeftEye That explains it! Thanks.
This was a truly insightful and inspiring video! A question . . . if there were spirits prying open Swedenborg's hands, does he mention the significance of keeping them folded?
I'm glad you enjoyed this episode, Carole! You know, I can't find any quote in which Swedenborg writes a particular spiritual significance to the folding of hands in prayer, so I can only guess that at least for him, the folded hands represented his focus and humility, and these spirits were trying to break that focus. Hands in general correspond to power, so maybe hands folded in prayer represent a humble acknowledgment that we have no power on our own, because all real power belongs to the Lord. What do you think?
@@offTheLeftEye I've often wondered about this too, and am glad to hear this reasoning. All I knew, intuitively, is that what I do with my hands in prayer is somehow significant. So wonderful to read this!

"I dont belong. I dont fit and I dont understand people. Never did , but learned to play the game." Those statements are not true in the final sense. If you learned how to play the game, that means that you are capable of learning something new now -- learning how to do life in a more real way! There are millions of people who struggle with knowing how to get along with other people. There are countless books and videos and programs in the world to help people learn to understand others better, and in doing that, they find more feeling of belonging and happiness. If you feel you have reached "rock bottom" in life, Torben, that means you are being called to a new beginning.
You have learned many things that do not work. That leaves you open to learning some new things that DO work. Whether you start by learning to repair relationships with people in your past, or you start with ways to connect with new people and new interests, there absolutely is a way forward. Maybe it can be through connecting with others who struggle with the same health issues that you are facing, and finding community in helping each other to find ways to cope with the challenges. If you would just make some first steps, and be patient with yourself as you learn new ways, God can move you forward. God cannot help us when we make no real effort. It is in making sincere effort, and in the willingness to keep trying, that God can lead us to a better state of life. Don't do things that haven't worked. Find new things to try! That's what we all need to do, because life is always changing, which means our role in life is always changing according to what stage we're in. We have to let go of some things that are over, and look for the new things to engage in. You can do it, Torben!

But I'm sure there's a lot we don't know about! What do you think about it?
@@offTheLeftEye Hi & thanks Chara (a lovely & unusual name you have)! I feel a bit of relief but not total reassurance.
@@annegoldie2983 Can you express what you are worried about? Do you want your life review to be held in confidence? Do you want it shared? As Chara said, it is for personal self reflection. Also angels are always willing to put a good interpretation on what other people do. They bend over backwards to do so. Perhaps you know the story of Shem and Japheth. They were sons of Noah, and when he got drunk in his tent they wanted to protect his dignity and bent over backwards with a robe to cover him, so that they could not look at his nakedness. Their brother Ham however went and told everyone about their father's mistake. That story is a description of the difference between angels, who go to great lengths to forgive and overlook our faults, and evil people who flaunt our failings. The people in heaven who love you are angels, Anne.
Hi Anne -- Chara here again. That last response was from Lori -- beautiful answer! Hope you feel reassured that your "life story" won't be used against you in the other world!

One time I danced with John Lennon.but his hair was short instead of long.I told my husband and two days later he put the newspaper down in front of me and John Lennon had gotten his haircut. I'm just trying to figure out who these spirits are? I think that from a different age or are they alive astral traveling also? Last night my son sent me this link.but a couple hours prior to that, he had called me while I was asleep and I did not call him back.I thought maybe he was having a hard time sleeping so I recited the Lord's prayer and I sent it to him and prayed he would say it because when they were younger, every time we said it together, they yawned. so I prayed that every time he says it, he would go to sleep and apparently he said it last night because he watched this.
Such a powerful story of sharing the Lord's prayer! Thanks for telling us about it, Bernadette. I would say they are externals that will empty out the internals
Hey Garth! It's great to hear you enjoyed the show! And no judgment - it's a fascinating subject. Hallucinogenics get at the nature of how the physical world and spiritual world interact and meet in our own minds. There is a lot Swedenborg has written about the way our physical body and the levels of our mind/spirit interact. He wrote a short work on it called Interaction of Soul and Body. This would give you the framework, or principles, within which to consider how hallucinogenics factor in, if that's helpful. Here is a link to the work to read it online: newchristianbiblestudy.org/exposition/translation/interaction-of-the-soul-and-body-vickers/contents/10.
I may have more thoughts to offer if you could tell me what angle on hallucinogenics you're specifically interested in. On how physical substances affect our mind or how our mind is influenced by our physical condition, we have an episode on the spiritual side of health here: ruclips.net/video/8N-ofY8eLvw/видео.html.
Hallucinogenics can also get into the realm of the nature of addiction. For that, we have an episode about the spiritual side of addiction: ruclips.net/video/lMxdZiguxlI/видео.html.
I hope some of these thoughts and resources are nearing the mark! If not, please let me know!

I (Karin) personally do, and that's the tradition with many people, even though the word "Amen" does not appear in the New Testament after this prayer (in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4). The word "amen" just means "this is true," so it can be a nice way to end this prayer. Do you say "amen" at the end?
Fantastic ecplanation. The "doxology" came in from the non-Catholic denominations. It was not in the original version used by the Catholic church (until recently).
I'm so glad you enjoyed this topic! And thank you for the added information about the doxology.
